Just started my 'return to bed' sleep training with dd (as per Nick did yesterday).
Has started pretty well - I've been staying in her room with her til she falls asleep, but didn't tonight and she still fell asleep in about 2 minutes (after an initial resistance!).
Fingers crossed it works when she wakes in the night too!

How old is your dd SB?

southernbelle77 · 18/02/2008 19:18

She is 3! You'd think I should have it sorted by now wouldn't you

crace · 18/02/2008 21:02

No, mine is 26 months and we are still at odds with it. As of last night she is out of our bed and next to it in a Z bed. After a while I am going to be moving it away from the bed and then after a longer while getting her into her own room. You are not alone, but I am a very gently gently softly softly in my approaches. However, odd this all seems to people this is the only way she is dependent on us and a very lively independent confident child so I must be doing something right. I just can't/won't let her scream herself to sleep so it's finding a gentle way to do it. It's ok, we are in no hurry - DH works late and I go to bed early so it's not been an issue iyswim.

Hmmm sounds like I am protesting too much?!

In a way I think your approach is potentially a good one. DD hasn't been in our bed for a while but i have been in hers (and I can assure you that although dd is small for her age, I most certainly am not and a little single bed is not good for both of us, especially when she has a bottom that doesn't half wriggle!!!)
I hate to hear dd screaming too so I will end up in and out her room numerous times I imagine but I have to do something as I'm turning in a grouchy cow (some might say what's new ) as I'm tired!

sleep training is hard isn't it?
i did it totally differently with each of my kids

with dd i did cotrolled crying when she was about 1yr and it worked within a week but when she went into a bed and i took the stairgate off her door she would sneak into my bed most nights untill she was 5yrs!!!

with ds i did it so differently - i cuddled him to sleep at first then progressed to stroking him to sleep then just sitting beside him and gradually moved further away till i was eventually able to leave while he was awake - i did take much longer but it has worked well generally put him to bed at 7.30ish and he sleeps right through 12 hours - we've had a few hiccups with bedwetting but not as many as i expected

happy birthday shoshe

Just popping in and am at the antics

Fill you all in tomorrow with the tales of my weekend away

southernbelle77 · 19/02/2008 07:04

I'm rubbish at sleep training

It was going okish until about 4.30am this morning when she was having none of it and I'm rubbish at listening to her cry/scream etc! I did keep going but ended up talking to her when I didn't want to as it makes her think she can keep doing it! Maybe tomorrow will be easier. I hope so
