Prices vary hugely according to where you live even small local variations. Are you asking to see if your being offered a good rate or to know what to charge?

purpleme12 · 04/02/2023 10:27

This new one charges £20, no food.
My old childcare setting (nursery Inc wraparound club) charges £12.50 Inc food.
This is such a shocking massive increase for me and I don't know what I'm going to do

And my child eats so much so I'd have to pay for way more food for her

£10 per hour after school including snacks. Central London.

LBOCS2 · 04/02/2023 10:30

Ours is £5/hr per child, collects from school, does dinner for them. £17.50 per child per day.

jannier · 04/02/2023 17:17

Childminders are severely limited to numbers so your child is taking up one of up to 3 spaces so most will charge a session fee regardless of the time you need as you can't go back for more children. Some provide food some don't....but if your child is going home early it's probably a snack.....most children eat when they are dehydrated or from habit so if your ears loads try offering more drink....does the drink bottle come home empty from school? It should be refilled 2 to 3 times few do.
After-school clubs tend to be on school premises, have bigger ratios and are used as a secondary income stream in nurseries to fill up spaces and pay extra to staff so they can be cheaper.

Boneweary · 04/02/2023 17:20

@purpleme12 , is your wraparound care no longer available? It does seem a lot.

No food. No real food anyway, as much as 2 biscuits.
Unfortunately drink doesn't stop the being hungry.

No it's not apparently 😓
I can't tell you how unhappy I am and how much I'm panicking about this now.
£20 seems huge to me without food when I was paying £12.50 including food. It's just me finding this money.
Not to mention the fact that I have apparently no choice in she goes now

How many hours is that for?
Ours charges £6 an hour, so if it was until 18:30 the price would be about the same as we pay. Ours doesn't include food either but we can pay £2 for dinner there

Cyclingforcake · 04/02/2023 18:20

Ours charges £5:85/hour including food. Breakfast if you get there before 7:45 and a proper cooked tea at about 4:45. If you leave before 4:30 for a club/swimming lesson etc she’ll give them a snack when they get back from school.

purpleme12 · 04/02/2023 18:20

It's from 3 till 6.
We don't live in an expensive area.
If I had already been paying that much or near enough I'd be less shocked and less worried. As it is I'm panicking.
It seems huge to me

£5.50 an hour including snacks in Cambridgeshire. DS goes after school.

Clickncollect · 04/02/2023 18:25

£6 per hour for 3 hours after school including snacks (DS usually has a bowl of cereal and a biscuit)

Looneytune253 · 04/02/2023 18:25

I charge 10 for after school care (in the north) we don't have a meal but we have a substantial snack crumpets/toast plus fruit. Mind 6pm is quite late tho, I haven't had many children that stay that late for a long time. Could you renegotiate with your employer for an earlier finish if you don't think your little one will last that long without tea?

Jules912 · 04/02/2023 18:26

6.50 an hour (min 2 hours) including food but expecting an increase soon as haven't had one for 5 years. After school club is cheaper but has a massive waiting list and my DD found it too much after a day of school.

Looneytune253 · 04/02/2023 18:27

Mind, around £6 per hour doesn't seem all that bad.

Hunger is the first sign of dehydration so it's always worth offering drinks first. Most parents send fruit and a cereal bar. The children go home to dinner

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 04/02/2023 18:34

It's worth looking at more unexpected sources of afterschool care to see what (if any) other choices you could have, for example, the outdoor pursuits centre we use for holiday care also do afterschool club for the nearest primary school, one of the staff goes with the mini van and collects everyone then parents pick them up from the OP centre. The trampoline park in the city centre does the same as does one of the softplays we use.

None unfortunately pick up from DDs school but it's worth doing a search of all child based activity business in close proximity to the school to see if they are doing anything.

You can use tax free childcare saving 20% or if on low income UC maybe worth looking at.

Yes she has tea after still but she has a very good appetite in general. At wraparound care she'd eat all her food given most of time time, having extra helpings a lot.
I will try suggest the drink more in case but she does have a drink with her.

She's slim so I don't have to worry about curbing her food

Would you believe it that this person seems to be the only option now for this school!
I'm shocked to be honest that this is the case

I'm on tax credits already for childcare.
It's just that it's still going to up significantly for me for childcare and buying extra food as well.

£7.50/hr for wraparound care with my childminder and no food. So costs me £22.50 per day per child for me. She charges £6.50/hr when they are there all day during school holidays
