Nursery fees - what's the average?

My daughter currently goes to a nursery that charges £9.10 per hour. I recently spoke to a friend who was horrified at the price so I just wanted to get some other opinions!
Is this nursery exceptionally pricey?
We are in the south of England.

We pay £70 a day, south east.

AnotherNC22 · 23/01/2023 13:04

SW London - £80 a day (baby room)

20viona · 23/01/2023 13:05

Staffordshire £60 per day

JackGrealishsLegs · 23/01/2023 13:05

About £95 a day here in the south. So only a bit higher than what your sister is paying (if a day is £10 hours). It’s normal in the town the nursery is in.

JackGrealishsLegs · 23/01/2023 13:06

Oh sorry I don’t know why I read that as your sister! Your daughter!

Sanch1 · 23/01/2023 13:06

South west £56 per day 8-6, nappies and wipes not included.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 23/01/2023 13:12

East Mids - £60 a full day.

No nappies & wipes included. I have to provide those.

I could get it cheaper if I had chosen a Sure Start nursery in my area but I preferred the one I chose and thought it was worth the extra.

Rawrrawr1 · 23/01/2023 13:20

We pay just under £70 a day..Yorkshire, this includes everything

Hangingtrousers · 23/01/2023 13:23

91 a day in London. Doesn't include nappies etc but does meals. It's more than my mortgage.

Mia5678 · 23/01/2023 13:25

£71 per day south cost. It’s increased twice in a year!

Mia5678 · 23/01/2023 13:27

Sorry meant south coast

Twotolove · 23/01/2023 13:28

£53 a day 7:30-6 in the South but doesn't include food (only breakfast) or nappies/wipes etc

BooCrew · 23/01/2023 13:31

It was £65 per day for the baby room three years ago, so probably £75 now, in Essex. Nappies and wipes are included now but weren't when we were paying it.

School nurseries for 3+ age group with funding can be much cheaper but also have limited hours and are term-time only, so it really depends what age group you're looking at and how much childcare you need.

PinkPlantCase · 23/01/2023 13:33

£75 a day, Midlands.

Ofsted Outstanding Nursery, includes all meals.

CastleTower · 23/01/2023 13:37

NE, £54 per day, including three meals

Jxtina86 · 23/01/2023 13:38

London - £65 a day but that is well below the average my friends pay (nearer £80-£90). It's a private nursery, not a chain and they don't provide things like nappies etc and I have to send in a packed lunch (they provide snacks, breakfast and dinner though). I took the price (and the staff are brilliant) over extras!

You can search your postcode in www.childcare.co.uk and you'll get an average.

SheilaFentiman · 23/01/2023 13:51

SheilaFentiman · 23/01/2023 13:51

This isn't that accurate for childminders in my area price is inflated by around £2 to £3 because of how they calculate their areas

jannier · 23/01/2023 15:25

In sw London nursery around £7 to £8 childminder £5 to £6

Overthebow · 23/01/2023 15:27
