So DH took AP to airport this morning...Asked her to clean flat as have family coming to stay for Xmas,..gave her loads of new storage boxes to put her papers and stuff in ..told her to leave wardrobe..Anyway have just been up there. It's filthy!!!!!! Shoes everywhere, cosmetics everywhere, dirty ashtrays,...fridge stinks, bin stinks
Gggrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Crumbs. Er, literally.

You may find that all her belongings fit neatly into black binliners, which you can pop cleverly in the garden until she returns.

I don't have a nanny/au pair but I have been one. The more I read about nannies and au pairs on mumsnet the more I am convinced that I a)hung out with a good crowd and b)was a better nanny than I thought....

jINGLESbells · 18/12/2007 10:08

LOL Holly...
Am sorely tempted!
Have just got text from her, saying she's at airport, thanks and M Xmas bla bla..I just think she's on a different planet to me

That's why I have a cleaner Ingles! And certainly no smoking in the house. Have yet to meet an AP who has ever kept her room clean and tidy, upon leaving. At least with a cleaner you can get them to do all the disgusting bits (dirty underwear etc). Mind you current AP is fine so I may have spoken too soon (will tell you Thursday night when she goes home for two weeks).

jINGLESbells · 18/12/2007 10:20

She doesn't smoke in the flat, she stands outside (in the freezing cold!) so the ashtrays are the front door! What a welcome! I was spoilt by an AP who's room was immaculate...oh well, better get cleaning.......

I can beat you all. We rent our house. The agent comes round for a six monthly check just to make sure we haven't burned the house down. And, in the last report, nanny's room was cited as a health and safety concern!

She is a nice a girl and I generally like her. But, I am most certainly asking lots of questions about tidiness on the next candidates. Current nanny is leaving in a few month so the recruiting process is just around the corner.

Incidentally, this gripe is not petty.

OK you win Eleusis... Was she mortified? or did she not care?
The thing is I just can't help thinking if she cares so little for my house,..what else does she not give a s**t about. The kids?

I think she is just has natural slob tendancies. I think she is burned out and the kids are getting on her nerves. So it is probably good that she is running off for a week to spend with her family.

I did get a bit a warning sign last weekend when DD called DS a "brat" and I said "Hey,we don't say that. It'snot nice." and DD replied "Well, (nanny's name) does." And I said who does she say that to? And DD replied (DS' name). I was going to mention it to nanny (not quite entirely believing DD, but expect there was some truth to it) when nanny mentioned to me that DD has said "Fck it!" earlier in the day and she wondered where she had picked that up? WEll, knowing there's a good chance I am guilty of the "Fck it" comment, I decided not to mention the brat thing cause I relly didn't have a lot of room to talk at that point.

from the other side i am a nanny and my room is usually the tidy one in the house i know that when i come back after my christmas break charges room will be a tip . Every week i tidy out draws wardrobe etc come Monday its all mucked up again. Yesterday i had to spend ages tidying the kitchen as some one had cooked but left all of the dirty stuff out half unloaded the dish washer some of the shopping had been upacked but the rest left on the table.

GloriaInEleusis · 18/12/2007 14:09
Envy
nannyj · 18/12/2007 15:09

I must admit i'm not a particulary tidy nanny. Am really tidy at work but after 12 hours plus at work the first thing on my mind isn't tidying up my room. Although was a bit embarassed when my last employer came in and made my bed .

Will now slink off and tidy up my flat.....

MightyMoosh · 18/12/2007 15:38

I was a very tidy, neat nanny till I got sacked. Now rooms a pigsty and I have no heating, too cold to tidy.

GloriaInEleusis · 18/12/2007 15:54

Oh, Mighty, you were sacked? What for? I think I vaguely remember this, but might be thinking of someone else.

Go on dish... you can slag off employers here too.

nannyj · 18/12/2007 15:59

MM i knew a nanny who got annoyed with the parents and cleaned their toilet with the dads toothbrush then put it back........ Not that i'm suggesting anything you understand.

GloriaInEleusis · 18/12/2007 16:03

eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww.....

RahRahRachel · 18/12/2007 16:12

I'm not very tidy but am definitely tidier than the family I work for! It does drive me mad that I leave the kids room and playroom reasonably tidy on a Friday night and by Monday morning it's a bombsite!

MightyMoosh · 18/12/2007 19:42

Got sacked (let go?!?!) because mum wanted a housekeeper rather than live-in nanny. So I started looking, she started hinting about me staying, end of notice I agreed to stay till xmas eve as no new job, nowhere to live, last night went to second interview and when I got back mum said she wanted me to stay! Today got the job, doesnt start till end jan so Ive agreed to come back for few weeks in jan to help, thay dont have a replacement! mums actual words- what have I got myself into! mad.

In terms of tidiness, the family dont put away nappies! On day off I go around putting newborns and 2 year olds nappies away as they stink! I find bottles of milk left in the kids rooms till i clear out the sludge! But new job has own flat, first for me ever (home to live-in) so im looking forward BUT much earlier start now 8.30, then 7.15! Im not a morning person!

weathershore · 18/12/2007 20:22

Just count down those days until you are in your flat.

MightyMoosh · 18/12/2007 20:47

Im booking my ticket home now, xmas eve (im working the morning, boo!) and now know I can leave stuff here! flat is empty, very close, so I can leave all my stuff! yey!

GloriaInEleusis · 18/12/2007 21:59

That's great Mighty. New year, new job. Goodluck! You wouldn't like workingfor me... the day starts at 6:30.

mmmm.... I do like bats. 6.30 is insane! I barely can manage 8.30, but thats mainly cos I dont have heating in my room so I stay in bed till 8.29 then eat bread whilst scrabbling on clothes! Cold cold cold mornings!

maximummummy · 18/12/2007 22:20

yuck to the stinky nappies
