Nanny with own child - going rate?

I’m in London and a friend’s nanny is on maternity leave. My friend won’t need her at the end of her mat leave as her child is starting school but we will be looking for someone. I was wondering what the going rate is/percentage discount from standard when the nanny has their own child? The nanny’s child and our youngest are the same age and will be 1, my elder daughter will be 3 and at nursery most of the time.

Thanks for all the comments. I will have a chat with her and see if she thinks we can make it work.

I am confident that she wouldn’t favour her child but at the same time she would have to look after two one year olds so obviously my daughter wouldn’t get as much attention as if her child wasn’t there. But she would also benefit from the companionship I’m sure so there are lots of pros too.

I used to do this and got paid about 20% less than the normal rate for sole charge. Family provided food (I was breastfeeding but would have brought own formula if was applicable) and paid for extra charge for two children at activities

I wouldn’t pay the same rate if a nanny brought her child. Why would you, care is no longer 1 on 1? You wouldn’t pay the same if a nanny took on another child would you? I appreciate it’s a bit different as you have more control but wouldn’t pay more than 2/3rds of the cost. But cheeky for a nanny to expect more, otherwise you’re just paying for her childcare for her!

Other things to think about, you shouldn’t be expected to pay for an extra child for activities, but I would want the level of activities to be kept up. Not cut out because the nanny doesn’t want to pay for her own child often.

Personally I'd prefer a nanny to concentrate on the care of my child completely. I'd go with a nanny who does not bring her own child along too.

To drop the amount by £1 per hour means over a ten hour day it saves you £10 and can cause far more hassle than it’s worth. I don’t know anyone who say it has worked out well for them.
