Hello,

I am looking for a nanny to help care for my boy. I interviewed a lovely nanny two weeks ago, who in considering giving the job too. But I don't know... when I look at her... I'm worried she takes drugs.

Should I ask for a background check. She does not have an enhanced DBS and I told her that I will need a clear DBS before she can work with my son. Is there anything else I need to check ?

Oh I don't know now. A few parents on the school run were asking me questions about her and was making sure that I got the right person. She does look a bit punk-ish but that doesn't bother me.

I don't knooooow Sad

Well you can't hire her until she has an enhanced DBS anyway and that can take weeks.

Sometimes you have to go by gut instinct and there is clearly something you're uneasy about with her.

I would look around for someone else.

I’ve got bad skin too, and very blue under my eyes. I do what I can with make up but some days it’s still bad- especially later on in the day. I’ve never done any drugs though, not even smoked a cigarette!

I'm a nanny (I'm off sick currently)

Any family I've worked for have always asked to see my qualifications, my dbs check and also checked up on my references.
I know that my previous employment would have me back in a heart beat - they said they just knew I was the one for them when they met me.
Aside from what you think about her looks; you are clearly uneasy in your gut which is never a good thing when leaving your child with someone who is essentially a stranger in your home.
Continue looking around or you will never feel confident with your nanny

caretaker nanny

Shosha1 · 07/04/2020 07:46

How many nannies have you had? Are they all for the one child?
I would be more concerned that you cant keep a nanny.

Binterested · 07/04/2020 07:50

For whatever reason your gut says no. So say no.

penisbeakers · 07/04/2020 07:58

Wow. So she has skin you don't approve of and you think she's on drugs?

Are YOU on drugs?

ritishkhanna · 07/04/2020 11:23

testing

Should you be meeting up with all these potential nannies with Covid 19 restrictions anyway?

This thread is from February, hopefully it’s all sorted now.

I thought I'd give an update since I keep receiving email notifications that someone has replied on this thread.

Long story short. We decided to hire the nanny Smile. We did a very long trial, while we were waiting for references and paperwork. All came back fine and she is fantastic ! We did a thoroughNo concerns about drugs whatsoever (I admit I was being judgmental and super paranoid).

Shosa1 We've had about three nanny's but to be fair, we were using a company that hired out nannies to parents on an Adhoc basis. Most of the nannies we had were students and all were in their final years of study, so it wasn't going to be long term anyway. This worked out ok as we were finding it difficult to find nannies for after school care but I didn't like the changing of nannies towards the end... so I decided to write a personal ad to find someone long term...
