my soon-to-start nanny/mothers help is proving a bit too popular at her temp placement - they would like to keep her on on a p/t basis so have asked me if i would consider a nanny share

any issues i should be aware of pretty please?

Sorry if this has been said already, didn't have time to read all. I mostly liked doing a nanny-share with another family. only inconvenient thing was when the other family raised the wages because they usually did it at that time of year and I didn't know in advance about it. In fact, i was quite pissed off. Everything else worked perfectly, though.

Nick,
I do think you are missing a few practicalities. Like coordinating holidays. It would be nice for the nanny to get a solid week of holiday so other family and Tutter family should probably work out an agreeable holiday schedule. Also, whoever gets the Monday might not like having to flip the bill for all the bank holidays when nanny won't be available to work. So it might be worth the two families talking about how they are going to split this pay. I would say it is probably fair to lump all bank holidays and all holiday time into one pot, Tutter takes 3/5 and other family 2/5.

I do agree that they are seperate in terms of the contracts. So, if other family ives notice to nanny, then Tutter family's contract will be unaffected.

Also, Tutter, you might want to consider putting the following statement in your contract:

The Employee may only take on other paid work with the agreement of the Employer. In the event of a Nanny share being suggested, it is a condition of Employment that the main income of such a Nanny share will be the Employer's, and the Employee will receive an increase in her remuneration, to be agreed between all the parties.

Employer agrees to consider reasonable requests for employee to look after additional children in addition to employer?s children as long as such an arrangement does not compromise the quality of care given to employer?s children.

thanks for your input everyone. as it transpires she's coming to us f/t after all - became clear that we weren't going to be able to agree days with the other family

they were offering her sole charge work, which would have been attractive as she's young as hasn't done this yet, but am happy to report she's coming to us anyway
