Drop of alcohol to help him sleep? What do you use?

I have a 1 year-old who (like many I'm sure) is an absolute nightmare with sleeping. Not often but occasionally I've popped a few small drops of brandy (he seems to quite like the taste(!)) to help him off. It was something my nan used to do to me.

I wondered if this was something others did and which alcohol they tended to use?

Thanks in advance!

Oh shit- this is someone who wants to be in the Mail isn't it?

Bumpmadethemjump · 01/09/2016 16:28

Have you considered Malibu?

Queenbean · 01/09/2016 16:29

I'd use Malibu.

For the totally tropical taste. Lull him to sleep on the thinking of tropical shores.

DropYourSword · 01/09/2016 16:29

Did you really honestly think lots of parents drug their child to sleep Hmm

Clickclickclick · 01/09/2016 16:29

Martha you're right, some people do this. Stupid, neglectful or dangerously ignorant people mostly.

curlywillow · 01/09/2016 16:29

When do the kids go back to school?...

RebelRogue · 01/09/2016 16:30

Absinthe. A drop is enough,so a bottle lasts for ageeeees. Plus i love the colour and the smell Grin

YellowShockedFace · 01/09/2016 16:31

I just hit them really hard on the head.

Cherryskypie · 01/09/2016 16:31

I may have suggested that they were either less than genuine or less than bright.

dementedpixie · 01/09/2016 16:31

It's a stupid thing to do so no I didn't ever give my 1 year old alcohol

CuppaBiccieBliss · 01/09/2016 16:32

Do people really still do this Hmm

IfTheCapFitsWearIt · 01/09/2016 16:32

Yes do mention it to your HV

Also just incase you been dosed with alcohol when you were little, has in paired your ability to understand jokes. The other parents on the thread ARE joking.

babbafishbabe · 01/09/2016 16:36

No, OP, nobody in their right mind does this!

YellowShockedFace · 01/09/2016 16:38

A fry up and hair of the dog wakes them up quickly in the morning.

I tend to just open the window a tiny bit and run a hose from the car exhaust into the LOs bedroom. Works like a charm.

Onedaftmonkey · 01/09/2016 16:39

Ffs (walks away)

PacificDogwod · 01/09/2016 16:39

Do you know that giving children under 2 alcohol is a criminal offence?

Apart from being dangerous, unnecessary and frankly suggests a degree of being hard of thinking Hmm

Martha, inform yourself FFS.

Lilybensmum1 · 01/09/2016 16:39

Just no I'm assuming this is a goody post!!

PotteringAlong · 01/09/2016 16:40

I think you're serious so the actual answer is:

Bloody hell! No! You CANNOT give your 1 year old alcohol to help him sleep! Glossing over the fact that it's not unusual for a 1 year old not to sleep through anyway do you really think people are routinely breaking the law and giving babies alcohol in the hope they pass out?!

my other answer: yes, all the time. Only whiskey because I don't like it and no way am I wasting my gin on the baby. In fact, if I'm tired and can't be bothered I do it in the afternoon too for a bit of extra time to myself.

Lilybensmum1 · 01/09/2016 16:40

Goady post!!! Bloody auto correct.

PacificDogwod · 01/09/2016 16:41

Apologies, it's under 5.

You're missing a trick with absynth. Nothing like a hallucinating baby.
