one of my mindees whom i have spoke of on here before is still same as in cleanliness and hygeine despite me actually asking her mum umpteen times now to clean her nails etc...her clothes are washed as she mentioned mixing darks with lights at weekend and colours mixing, but coat, gloves, hat, scarf are always black.so..ive just chucked em in washer..am hoping duffle coat will dry by home time but what would be best to say? as shes going to notice the smell and colour of them??she fell in snow/mud?(which her dd will say no i didnt!), maybe she got food on them??

no, im not your cm..yes think ill buy a couple of nail brushes at weekend one for each(even tho others dont need it), i dont know about me cleaning their nails but got in bother for cutting nails when long, sharp and dirty
am also thinking of buying/getting them to bring toothbrushes(no reason like nails) just to introduce good hygeine???

How about making a song of the nails thing
Do the whole "this is the way we wash our face" thing, with perhaps a basing of water, or wip[es, going onto this is the way we scrub our nails with brush and sopa to hand! or is that going a bit OTT. I remember you mentioning the child before, can't remember her age though. Is it just clothes and nails or does she look grubby all over? If she is almost nursery/school age, tehn surely they will also mention it mother. I would be mortified if my children were that bad that another Cm was washing their clothes, cleaning their nails etc, and would make sure they were clean. But washing their clothes and them is just something i do any way. As soon as DS1 gets in from footie tonight everything goes in washing machine, and he gets straight into bath.
From a CM point of view though i can see why you are doing the washing and cleaning of nails, and would probably do teh same in teh circumstances

Toothbrushes for cleaning teeth after meals is fine. My DD (2) has to have one for nursery. I think it is wrong that you are not allowed to cut nails - if they are sharp and dangerous this has a potential impact on other mindees/your own children.

i know, and being dirty all the time, runs the risk of germs being passed around.
..just about got coat dry!

Just thinking about this from another angle other than it isn't right to lie. Maybe if you wash the child's things the mother will see it as a criticism of her parenting skills and not be very happy.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 23/01/2007 20:04

ok, mum arrived tonight and as she sat down i handed her her dd's coat and hat scarf etc and said oh, i hope you dont mind but i noticed your dd's coat had a few marks on it, so as i was putting a wash in i popped that in too..just managed to get it dry in time....mum looked bemused like..hmm didnt notice it was dirty?...then said oh thankyou.

I dont know how I would feel if my CM washed some of my dd's clothes tbh!
In some respects I would think "one less job for me" as at the moment my back is kind of against the wall (full time work, part time studying, coming up to assessment time etc so no time to wash things like coats!)
In another respect I think I would be upset because I hadn't done it and it is never nice having things pointed out!

my mindees all have toothbrushes ans brush their teeth after breakfast, its a good idea

gald mum was ok with you about the coat

StrawberrySnowflakes · 23/01/2007 20:26

but i cant let her dd go around in constAnt dirty clothes, its been comented on by paretns at school when they knew she wasnt mine and i really feel for her, she should be in nursery now but missed cut off so she is at an age where she should be there and school wouldnt do as i did, i think theyd say something!

washed other mindees coat alst week as she had been sick in car on way here...got her changed into her spares and washed sicky stuff, without even thinking, mum and dad were over moon, but then that WAS doing them a favour and not pointing something out?!

OP posts:
dmo · 23/01/2007 20:32

why not just buy some clothes for her to wear at your house this way you wont have to wash and dry her clothes in time for mum coming but when you go out she is clean and tidy and change her back into her own clothes before mum comes
agree with you that pre-school/school wont do this but you have tried and they may say something to mum and hopefully she will listen to them as she doesnt seem to be listening to you. poor you rest tonight tomorrow is another day!
