Childminder cost after school

Just wondering what you pay or charge for a school pick up and sfterschool care.

I've been quoted £20 per day for pick up and 3 hours care. Snack and drink provided. I have to provide meal.

I'm pretty sure there will be no documents/learning journey, no activities and tv will be on with DS allowed to free play, relax, watch tv (which is fine s he'll be in reception and tired).

It's more than a local gap club with activities and resources so I was a bit surprised.

I paid £5 for the hour before school and £5 for the hour after school. Expensive compared to what some friends paid elsewhere in the UK hut mainly standard in our area.

JustMumNowNotMe · 02/08/2017 07:06

Our CM charges £4ph for before and after school. Breakfast and after school snacks are provided but not dinner, as they just eat when they go home. Might be different if you pick up at say 7pm but if its before this time why would they need to eat there?! Don't they just eat with you?! Confused

Mantasay · 02/08/2017 07:18

£15 for pickup and after school care up to 6pm including a hot tea.

Thank you all for your comments. I have already made some enquiries and looked at other options.

It sounds reasonable. We pay 25 for after-school care.

user1497863568 · 02/08/2017 09:24

Oh sorry, NOT per hour!!

TWINSMUMUK · 02/08/2017 10:51

Dear All,
thank you once again for your comments. I have found an alternative option.

bbcessex · 02/08/2017 17:18

Glad you found something that's a possibility TWINSMUM

I'd advise checking it out in person to make sure you're 100% happy before notifying your current Childminder.

Good luck x

Thank you bbcessex

£13 for 3 hours including cooked dinner (southwest)

Passthecake30 · 03/08/2017 20:52

What annoys me is that I have to pay the hours for when the childminder is walking back from school in the morning, and walking back to collect in the afternoon (so pay from 3 for a 3.15 pick up). Dp says she should stay in the car park 😀 Especially as one of her dcs goes to the same school.

I pay £4.50 an hour.

Snap8TheCat · 03/08/2017 20:56

How far do you live from the school that you are having to pay her hours??!

Passthecake30 · 03/08/2017 22:13

Well I live 5 mins walk away but work FT. She lives 15 mins walk away, so charges half an hour a day that adds up to hours over a week...

Mantasay · 03/08/2017 22:15

That used to annoy me too when I started with cm before (that we ended up only using for 5 weeks as she gave notice after that that it was 'too tiring' - 2 weeks after starting, and when I'd paid a very hefty holding deposit over the summer which she refused to refund any of, and all the other childminders doing pickup at that school were then full - can you tell I'm bitter??)

She had a son at the school she was collecting anyway.
I was expecting to pay from when she collected and took responsibility for my child but no I had to pay an extra 20 mins for her to walk.
It didn't sit right because I knew she would be doing it anyway and it's not like I had any control over how close she lived. Surely it's a bit like paying someone for their commuting time?

Needless to say our current lovely childminder is much more straighforwsrd and I prefer one round figure (£15) for the after school period.

Snap8TheCat · 04/08/2017 08:14

Haha that's a bit like saying she's at home with her child anyway, why should I pay her to look after mine.

I charge an all inclusive fee anyway, I suspect many parents think like you and don't want to pay for a tangible thing they can see they are receiving. So I include that time but sell it as a full evening package so don't explicitly say I charging for it.

I still have to go up when my child is off, or going to a friend's house and I can't send my husband to collect as I would if it were just our dd. I don't think parents would appreciate paying more when my dd leaves the school anyway because I no longer have to go up there for her.

HSMMaCM · 04/08/2017 16:38

SnapTheCat I went to collect a mindee from school once when my daughter had gone home with a friend. Found his mother in the playground waiting to collect him as a special treat. Wish I'd known

Holidayhooray · 04/08/2017 16:42

South east here and I think that sound reasonable.
The important question is do you really like her? What's her value to you?

If there was a childminder that my child and I adored, trusted implicitly - I would pay whatever the hell she asked (within reason! I'd pay up to £10 an hour childminding). But if you don't think she is brilliant, then you will begrudge paying her what you have researched is slightly above the average.

Work out her valueto you and go from there.

Snap8TheCat · 04/08/2017 16:53

Oh yes ive had that a few times too. Worse when it's raining and you've woken toddlers and dragged them out with you too 🙄

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/08/2017 22:21

Sounds like she wants to get rid of you

Pay silly money or Leave

sparklyelephant · 09/08/2017 13:10

I thought the same as blondes !!

goldensyrupisshit · 09/08/2017 13:22

I'm guessing that with the 30hrs funding some childminders are getting themselves tangled up in increasing prices to cover the funding.
