Things that annoy you about your aupair...

ChocolateBiscuitCake · 04/04/2015 14:39

Have just given the au pair the heave-ho and a huge weight has lifted. However, I am now enduring the two week notice period with a stroppy teenager.

Thought I would start a lighthearted thread on the annoying things that they do mine does:

Empty the dishwasher but after 6 months still not know where everything goes, so leave it on the side.

Filling the dishwasher with cleaned things left on the side of the sink to dry.

Hoover around things on the floor (rather than put them away). Definitely no hoovering behind doors!

Always let the dog lie in the only ground floor room with carpet, mostly when wet (when specifically told, no dog in this room).

Feed the fat dog treats (we don't have any, she has bought her own!).

The list goes on.

Any one else able to add their experiences?

Bigfam - this board is paid home childcare. Which you don't use. Hence the analogy with the chickens (which you don't have either).

Incidentally, moving at 9 months pregnant and then decorating is just poor planning rather than being something to boast about. I also wouldn't want to expose a foetus to paint fumes - I would much rather pay someone else to take that risk.

bigfam · 04/04/2015 19:05

Urgh I was trying to lighten the mood.
You're just a complete snob, would you pay someone to push for you aswell?!

bigfam · 04/04/2015 19:09

You have no right to say it was poor planning either, having no idea of the situation I was in. Oh, and my 'foetus' is a perfectly healthy baby girl, who will be taught manners (of which you have none, you must have terrible headaches from looking down your nose at people all the time) Grin

JulyKit · 04/04/2015 19:12

It's very poor form to laugh at your own jokes, bigfam.

Have a Biscuit

What a fucking car crash this thread is.

Some people need to go and eat some more chocolate or something. Fucking bitches.

Nolim · 04/04/2015 19:25

Leah and bigfam: we get it, you do not use paid help and have a very low opinion of those who do. Fair enough, that is your opinion.

So why are you commenting on a thread about paid childcare? Do you have something to contribute based on experience or just want to rant about other people's choices and tell everybody how great you are?

bigfam · 04/04/2015 19:25

I wished the op well then karoleann started with her "I'd rather pay someone else to...." and looking down her nose. It was friendly (on my part) til then

JulyKit · 04/04/2015 19:25

In it's own very tragic way, it's a Mumsnet classic, fourteen.

No, wait, it's a Mumsnet cliche.

Sad Biscuit ew, soggy biscuit

bigfam · 04/04/2015 19:30

Not once did I say I had a low opinion of people who do, or that I think I'm great.

bigfam · 04/04/2015 19:33

Oh sorry, I didn't read the part that said 'au pair employers comments only'

Ahem

Nolim · 04/04/2015 19:39

Bigfam if i may:
Why are you making such a big deal of 'needing an extra pair of hands' when you're 8 months pregnant. When you have children, you're supposed to do these things with them, or am I missing the point?
May i ask according to who you are not supposed to get help? I dont see anything wrong with hiring help.
i dont know if you feel superior or just fail to empatize.

You mention that other posters are looking down their noses. That is what you are doing.

sosix · 04/04/2015 19:41

Were us your easter spirt? What would baby Jesus say? Easter Biscuit

Twoplus3 · 04/04/2015 19:41

So apparently I'm not allowed to say the word "cow" but it's ok for other people to say lazy fu**er???? Erm.....ok

sosix · 04/04/2015 19:44

I for one am up for hiring as much help as one requires. I have my 4 dcs and pregnancy 4 was hell.

Shock horror, ds goes to nursery 2 days a week so I can sleep do very important things.

Fugghetaboutit · 04/04/2015 19:45

Well, this went well!!

schooladviceplease2015 · 04/04/2015 19:48

This is a totally honest question. Is this a joke thread? I feel naive.

bigfam · 04/04/2015 19:48

Did mother Mary need an au pair

Kelly1814 · 04/04/2015 19:49

OP I'm with you. That is all.

Fugghetaboutit · 04/04/2015 19:52

Two it was a pretty nasty personal attack, actually.

Twoplus3 · 04/04/2015 19:52

I have three children, one of whom has additional needs. He has never slept through the night. I had to quit my job to look after him full time as nursery couldnt cope with him. My dh works 60 hours a week and sometimes works away for weeks at a time. I didn't feel the need to hire help despite everything that we are going through at the minute, and whilst I'm not arrogant in thinking that everybody should do things the same as me, I do however, look down on people who hire help as I think they are lazy, selfish parents. Sorry!

Fugghetaboutit · 04/04/2015 19:54

How odd Confused

Nolim · 04/04/2015 20:04

I do however, look down on people who hire help as I think they are lazy, selfish parents. Sorry!

Thank you for your candor Two. I would like to point out however that some parents have no choice but to hire help. And even if it is a choice to hire help i think it is a valid one, but that is just my opinion so lets agree to disagree.
