I think it is normal practice just to pay for the hours you do. So hours before and after school and then if needed in an emergency charge a different rate for hours worked?

EvesMama · 02/07/2006 19:34

but someone once told me the norm is to charge full day as you couldnt fill a say 10-2 space as you would have that child before and after that time(thats if your full tho??)

I'm not a childminder but have used several for many years. Mine all charged a full day for when the child was at pre-school, say, 9.00 - 12.00 because they did the drop off and pick up and were the emergency contact.

However when mine got to school they just charged for the drop off and pick up, since they were then rising 5's and moved into the next category, freeing up spaces for under 5's. Hope you understand my convuluted way of putting it! HTH .

Yes but I don't know anyone that would be prepared to pay you for hours you didn't do iykwim.

Also lots of schools are now having breakfast and after school clubs.

EvesMama · 02/07/2006 20:19

oop and yes it would be every day .

Oh I see!

dmo · 02/07/2006 20:23

dont understand how you can be the emergency number, surely if the child is ill you cant pick the child up what about the other children you care for
i'm a childminder and i charge children for before and after school hours only
i would not and could not be put on emergency details as i do not want to pick up a sick child

I am an emergency contact and do not charge for the time mindee is at nursery. Two things though i only have the one mindee so cross contamination isnt a prob(other than my ds)and also i would charge from the moment i got the call to pick up if i ever need to.
HTH

EvesMama · 02/07/2006 20:33

oh and re emergency contact thing..like i say she's my only mindee or will be rather for a little while at least and have been told by experienced childminders through my course that they are down to collect the child in emergency???, that why im getting confused..i can see with a few children it would be impossible but didnt know while she was my only one?

nzShar, so CM can do it then?

OP posts:
nzshar · 02/07/2006 20:37

yes as long as you are a named contact person on the paper work at the nursery and as you say you dont intend on having any others for a while so should be no probs.

MrsGerrard · 02/07/2006 20:40

no not at all evesmama

nzshar · 02/07/2006 20:42

I would like to make it clear that if the child is really ill i would just be the pick up person. Parents work at least an hour away (depending on traffic etc) and i am 5 mins away from nursery. So initially i would pick up mindee but mum or dad would be on their way if i deemed mindee too ill to be with me IYSWIM

nzshar · 02/07/2006 20:44

also this child is in nursey not reception .....was just talking about the emergency contact issue

EvesMama · 02/07/2006 20:48

Mrsgerrard

Well it depends on the type of illness D or V goes home. A slight fever or feeling a bit "off" stays with me and monitored
