Bloody Converse!!!

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 20:43

Does anyone else hate (but love how cute they are) bloody converse on mindees!!!

I had 3 with them on today, all too little to do their own shoes, not that these can be attempted anyway, and they take me an age to put on, take off...

Would I be unreasonable to ban them?!!

You can buy them with velcro actually which would be my choice.

schooldidi · 29/05/2013 20:46

It wouldn't bother me if my cm banned them, but then again I wouldn't put them on a toddler anyway. I'm rather lazy and wanted my dds to be able to put their own shoes on and off asap. Dd2 was 18 months when she could take them off, closer to 2 to put them on again. We love velcro in our house.

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 20:54

So do I!! I wouldn't ban them but do want them to he able to do own shoes...

Wellies
Slip on boots
Velcro

Please no more floppy trainers you have to undo to the toe to get on only to he taken off again in 2 minutes!

When MiL has my DS she has banned them from wearing Converse. She just can't put them on and I do see her point but they do look so good in themSmile
I would understand if my CM asked for them not to be worn.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 29/05/2013 21:08

YWNBBU Definitely not. I can't believe parents are so bloody stupid to send them in those. Well, sadly I can actually...

Ban anything with laces unless they can do their own!

BikeRunSki · 29/05/2013 21:15

They do look cute. DS had some when he was little, but DD has the sneaker Doodles with Velcro because the Converse laces are a faff (couldn't find any Velcro cons in her size). I wouldn't be upset or surprised if a cm ir nursery banned them.

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 21:29

Thank you all! I thought it was just me being a plank taking so long to get them on!

When they first started wearing them I actually couldn't get them on and the children said 'mummy can do them.' Hmm

How would I word a kind banning email?

Could I say I want to encourage them to do their own shoes and these are impossible? Be honest and say they take me ages!?

schooldidi · 29/05/2013 21:33

I would go for something like "I am encouraging your children to become independent, please could you ensure that footwear and coats are easy for them to learn to put on themselves" then maybe list the sort of shoes that are easy like trainers with velcro, slip on boots, etc. So you aren't banning particular shoes per se, you are encouraging the development of the children.

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 21:37

Marvellous! I may well use that!

I wouldn't be offended if you explained to me how long it took and how much it was eating into time to do fun things. Ask all parents to bring wellies?

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 21:56

Wellies are so much easier! It's the going in and out of the back door thing too... Grrr

'I can either spend all day doing activities or doing up shoe laces - your choice?!'

Probably not quite what you were looking for Grin

Personally I'd just be honest and tell them that I was losing the will to live and the next one to send their child in converse would be for the chop!

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 29/05/2013 22:10

Wellies in winter, crocs in summer (if we get one) for the garden and easy shoes for going out.

You couldn't pay me enough to be a childminder - the kids are fine - but parents and Ofsted Have a Wine on me :)

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 22:20

Ha ha thanks for the drink! I need it after today!

I have a theory that when parents have made a buying mistake (or when kindly friends and relatives have made it for them), then those are the clothes they send their children to the CM in. Think dungarees for toilet training children, converse for any ages, coats which make them look like the michelin man, etc etc. That way they can save all the practical stuff for themselves.

I would do the same Grin.

One parent actually confessed that she was so fed up with her DD removing her shoes in the back of the car, that she purposely did not get velcro.

CatRugCar · 29/05/2013 22:28

My DC have fake converse style shoes from H&M because the have a vlcro strip at the top and the laces are actually elasticated so they are easy enough to put on and take off.

Tanith · 29/05/2013 23:54

Oh, those boots! I didn't know what you meant at first. When I was little, they were called baseball boots.

They are, indeed, the work of a particularly spiteful and vicious Devil!

Whatalotofpiffle · 30/05/2013 09:44

I hadn't thought of that!!! Parents probably do send them in pain in the arse clothes and shoes!!

OP posts:
Whatalotofpiffle · 30/05/2013 09:46

Yes, the h &m ones are great, one mindee comes in them and I love them!

Whatalotofpiffle · 30/05/2013 09:47

Right, based on your comments validating my grrrrrr about them, I am going to write the email.., or print a friendly memo... Will let you know what response I get after half term!

mumofthemonsters808 · 30/05/2013 09:53

You're right they are so hard to put on little feet. The velcro one's are much easier and even Vans are better to get on. I think you are being reasonable with your request, I can't even cope getting one pair on DS never mind sorting several children out.

milkymocha · 30/05/2013 10:01

I can put tiny converse on in about 30 seconds but it takes me an eternity to put kickers on. Maybe theres something wrong with me Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/05/2013 10:02

Dd had a pair of pull on elasticated Converse when she was about 5, they had fake laces and looked gorgeous. They were quite stiff to pull on though, took her a while for her to get the hang of it, but if I did them myself it only took s moment compared to doing up laces.

Lala29 · 30/05/2013 12:16

Both my childminder and the local (excellent rated) preschool have signs up saying to not send children in in crocs. I don't see why you can't do the same with converse. I wouldn't dream of buying lace up shoes for my toddler and sympathise if you have to do several children at once!

GladbagsGold · 30/05/2013 12:22

I always swapped proper laces for elastic when DC were small, you could suggest that in your friendly memo so parents don't have to buy new shoes.
