Bloody Converse!!!

Whatalotofpiffle · 29/05/2013 20:43

Does anyone else hate (but love how cute they are) bloody converse on mindees!!!

I had 3 with them on today, all too little to do their own shoes, not that these can be attempted anyway, and they take me an age to put on, take off...

Would I be unreasonable to ban them?!!

I feel your pain op, i have had the converse issue, another one that drives me insane is dungarees without poppers in non potty trained mindees , also pull ups on mindees no where near ready for potty training - grrr!!

Itsokbut · 06/06/2013 09:49

Used to get great dungarees for little ones, now it's braces or trousers modelled on the adult design that fall down from small waists. Half the time it's the bulk of a nappy that's stopping the trousers falling to their ankles.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2013 10:00

I rem when db brought converse boots for my then 5yr charge and buckle up for the 18mth - after strict instructions to buy both Velcro

mb said she would never send db out for shoe shopping again

mb and I were not impressed as he just could not do the Laces up and I spent ages trying to teach him

I banned them till he could as took me so long to get his foot in and out of them when wanted to play in the garden etc

So no yanbu to request Velcro shoes or crocs or boots for all mindees

ChunkyPickle · 06/06/2013 10:29

I love DS in converse (plus they fit so well because of the laces, and I always find plimsols so comfortable myself - closest to bare feet imo) - but I'd never send him to nursery/CM in them exactly for this reason.

Of course I have a lazy nearly 3 year-old who I can't even persuade to put his own crocs on (mama do it, feebly waves toes at the wrong shoe, backwards, to prove that it's too hard for him to do himself)

pictish · 06/06/2013 10:31

I use the low rise trainers they are much easier.

minderjinx · 06/06/2013 10:42

My pet hate is unsuitable clothing on children who ARE toilet trained, or getting there. If they need to get undressed quickly (and preferably independently) they obviously need loose shorts/joggers with an elasticated waist, not floor length fairy dresses or overtight designer jeans with difficult buttons and zips or indeed any sort of dungarees or all-in-ones, or tights or tight leggings. As for putting on pull ups with a baby vest with poppers under the bottom plus a layer or two of outer clothes, words fail me (thankfully). The little one says they need a wee and it's then like pass the parcel against the clock to see if they can be stripped off in time!

Whatalotofpiffle · 06/06/2013 13:14

Ha ha I am so glad i am not the only one! I haven't dared send the message out yet but you have all given me confidence that I am not being unreasonable about this Smile

Oh and yes, pass the parcel children who need a wee is going to get a mention too the next time it happens to me

Don't Converse knacker your feet if you wear them too often because they are so flat and thin soled? Don't podiatrists adore them as they bring them so much business?

Or did my mother tell this yarn so I would not wear mine all the time?

ReetPetit · 06/06/2013 13:24

i don't understand people who put their dc in clothes that can't be pulled down quickly! I have one regularly sent in stiff cords that have buttons/zips etc which bite into the tummy, also playsuits/jumpsuits - how the hell can a 2 year old get that off in time??

pull ups are pointless imo - having suffered having to change many loose stools all up the back because a pull up can't hold poo, and also can no longer be torn away at the waist but have to come down the legs, grr, so, so annoying and time consuming - and messy!!

mindingalongtime · 06/06/2013 13:34

I sent a note out yesterday stating No crocs, flip flops or lace up shoes for the summer, - banned by local nurseries and pre schools, also please send a hat and make sure your child is suncreamed before they come, and use all day waterproof stuff - you only have one wriggly body, I have 4!

Or, we will not go out!

MrsPotato · 06/06/2013 14:04

Out of interest mindingalongtime what's the problem with crocs? I encourage mindees to wear these as they can all put them on themselves and they're good for the beach.

Also, today I had a child with lace up shoes, a belt, and a new white top! A note will be going home, again...

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2013 14:04

Ditto minder jinx with designer jeans and tight trousers when pt - nightmare

Normally as perm nanny I decide what clothes to wear depending on activities - but as a temporary nanny I just go in and 99% of the time children are dressed and tight clothing when pt makes me go grrrrrrrr Angry

One temp job i did does a tumbletot class so climbing over equipment and mum keeps putting in silly fancy dresses that child falls arse over tit in them - or can't easily climb over something - I always change into leggings or track suits and mum always asks me why - and I give her the same answer every time mum is a Girly type and doesn't like daughter looking tomboyish Hmm

Startail · 06/06/2013 14:08

My DDs(12 and 15) had hi tops for their birthdays' .

Both have spent their own money on slip on alternatives, they can't be arsed to do them up.

Angry they were £££ and look nice, also they won't let be wear them instead.

Startail · 06/06/2013 14:10

Me wear them!

Whatalotofpiffle · 07/06/2013 00:23

Minding - I think I will use a very similar note!

I have had parents send kids to a dance summer workshop in crocs or strapped sandals. I ask you!!!!

ScrambledSmegs · 07/06/2013 00:56

Superga. Come in lovely colours, Velcro straps, cooler than converse apparently.

I get them in the sale as I am a cheapskate.

mindingalongtime · 07/06/2013 07:21

MrsPotato Crocs never fit properly, children's feet slip around in them, I have seen too many children slip over as the crocs fall off, they can't climb with them on and they are invariably wearing big siblings cast offs!

Yes, great for the beach, I have some that I wear to go down to the chickens, but they are not comfortable and know my feet slip around in them, so children's must too.

Several nurseries do not allow them for H&S reasons as they have had children slip off the climbing frame in them with nasty results.

weakestlink · 07/06/2013 13:45

Wow I did not realise the problems with crocs! Both mine wear them in the summer! I will make a point of asking CM if she likes them or not next week! Would hate to think I am causing her extra bother!
Must admit ie never had a problem with them being uncomfortable/slipping off etc!

Whatalotofpiffle · 08/06/2013 09:16

I had a mindee come in jellies yesterday which would have been fine but she always without fail takes her shoes off when she comes in from the garden, and she was in and out a lot... I buckled them up 15 times by the end of the day!!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 09/06/2013 20:22

doodles are the best - velcrose straps-simple

crocs are good for beach but hate seeing kids run in them at parks etc as they feed do slip and are a danger
