i've just found out i cant get to see the doctor thats doing me assessment for at least 3/4weeks which means my cm registration is going to have to be put on hold - this is very bad as my mat pay runs out on 6th march so i probably wont get any mindees until may by the time im registered and i've advertised and had meetings with parents etc. Dp is going on at me to find some evening work as we cant afford to pay the bills if im not bringing anything at all in.
so i mentioned setting up as a babysitter until im registered as i know i wouldnt leave my baby/ children with a strange teenager id feel a bit more confident leaving them with another mother that is doing it to get some money until shes a registered childminder (also might bring in future business) but dp says no way because it wont be as much as we need and it might not take off at all and id only get pittance for the hours id put in so he wants me to get a bar job and im just wondering if i was just fooling myself into believing i could actually do this. im feeling like a complete failure, please can someone give me some words of encouragement or tell me to get a reality check!

why a failure ? It is not your fault the gp is holding you up. Can you put the word around that you are about to be registered and make contacts with potential parents ahead of time ?

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 11:39

i already have done but now im worried i wont get registered at all so then ill have to tell people i didnt get registered and then they'll ask why i had severe PND and took an overdose when i was 18 (im now 24) but ofsted have said they want to check im fit to look after children.

failure because i dont think anyone who knows me thought i could actually do this and i tried really hard to prove them wrong i have worked really hard getting everything ready, doing the icp and now something that happened when i was really just a kid might stop me from doing the job i would love and proving them all right! (though they have changed their tune recently this might make them think i cant do it or worse i might actually not be able to do it)

Lovemygirls, you can do it and you will do it. It might seem as everything is falling apart for you at the moment, but in a few months you will look back and wonder what you were worried about.

Use this time constructively, put feelers out, tell everybody and anybody that you are in the process of registering, complete your portfolio, policies etc.

So about the bar job, at least you would know that you have a steady income coming in and also that you won't be there for ever.

I have been going through a rough patch with losing mindees etc but I have found that it all pans out in the end, I have two nd a half full time under 5 spaces available but I have a baby starting later in the year and also another two who will be starting as soon as mum gets a job, please don't be despondent about this set back, if you want it badly enough it will happen

HellyBelly · 08/02/2006 11:48

I don't think you're actually allowed to put contracts in place until you're actually registered, just in case that doesn't happen for some reason.

Sorry this has happened to you I don't know one person who's gone through the registration process in the time they were told it would take, I started course in Feb 05 and was registered at very end of May 05.

I did a cleaning job whilst waiting to be registered but was on jobseekers allowance prior to that, for 6 months. I'll try and think of some idea's but I reckon if things are as bad financially as they were for me, you may have to do something in the meantime.

Is there no way you could get an appointment sooner? (presume you tried though)

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 12:01

yeah i did try helly - at the risk of sounding like a loony! dr's secretary is going to call me back later on today as she didnt even have my paperwork when i rang.
thanks for your support i really needed it i tried to get some off dp but he seemed to think i was just trying to blame everyone but myself for my past adn that if i didnt get registered it was my own fault i know deep down he knows i was having a very hard time of it and i think hes really worried about money.
ill have to get something in the meantime i just didnt want to have to maybe i could claim jobseekers how much is it?

cross posts - you are NOT a failure and as HenniPenni said, you WILL do it!!!

Do what she said - do policies etc. I spent all my time (whilst waiting) doing policies, sorting out toy boxes, and most of all, building my website/researching online advertising places.

Got to go now as we're off out (mindee sick) but please stay positive - I think most of us have played the waiting game - horrible isn't it

Good Luck whatever you decide

HellyBelly · 08/02/2006 12:06

jobseekers is about £111 every 2 weeks. u have to have paid 2 years NI contributions prior to signing on (i think). May be wrong though?

Got to go now but try www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk website (if that's wrong i'll post link later - running late) - call them!

Isyhan · 08/02/2006 12:24

Lovemy girls - can you be health care assistant and do some nights to pull in some cash? Im going to do some bank nursing shifts until I get started.

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 12:36

isyhan - how do i go about it? i would prefer to be in a care role rather than working in a bar. i used to work for the nhs and enjoyed making a difference to peoples lives. even though i was only behind the scenes i still enjoyed it.

Isyhan · 08/02/2006 13:39

Best thing to do is to get registered with an agency then you can work when you want to. Nights, or twilight shifts maight be good for you. Find a local private or NHS hospital you want to work at so when they ask you can tell them you want to work there.
Try NHS professionals (most NHS work with them), BNA, BUPA, Nuffield, Ambition (they pay well). Or find a local nursing, residential home and register on their bank.

You'll need a short interview, CRB check, health clearance (but not as strict as OFSTEd so your PND wont be an issue, more interested in vaccinations etc, back problems.

They have different rates of pay. Its more for nights weekends. I can give you some idea of differences as BUPA pay £9.50 ph.base rate for qualified nurse, Ambition pay £15ph.(but you have to travel to get the work.

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 14:00

im not qualified though or does it not matter if you only want to do auxilary work? i rang the local hospital that care for the elderly they do respite etc but theres nothing at the moment so maybe i could join an agency and travel to get the work, i dont mind doing that if the pay is good.

OP posts:
Isyhan · 08/02/2006 14:08

No, you dont need to be qualified to work as health care assistant. you may have to do on the job training. The more agencies you join the more work you will get but just be aware for Ambition they charge you for CRB check the rest dont. Not sure about BNA.

Isyhan · 08/02/2006 14:21

lovemygirls- where abouts in the country do you live?

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 14:23

my CRB should be through by then though anyway so ill already have that.
i live near birmingham.
im just trying to join NHS professionals - theres a lot to fill in, mind you i suppose its the same with any job.

OP posts:
Isyhan · 08/02/2006 14:39

crb not transferable im afraid but only takes about 2 weeks to come through.

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 14:42

aww ok well ive got about 3/4 weeks until my money runs out.

OP posts:
HellyBelly · 08/02/2006 16:20

I applied for and was offered a care job (can't remember the proper title) but it was JUST before I got my certificate so I turned it down. Otherwise I would have gone for it! It was reasonable money from what I remember and I would have got a lot of pleasure from helping people.

I found the advert for the job in my local free paper although no all will advertise like this.

Give it a try & good luck

Isyhan · 08/02/2006 16:32

lovemygirls- to speed things up make sure people who write your references are quick about it so let them know you need them to respond quickly and have a list of when you've had any jabs e.g. rubella, tetanus etc.

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 16:47

i did start filling in the nhs form but i had to go and get dd1 then my mum came round and went on the computer and shut it down ooops so i will have to start again. i had hoped i could work at the hospital just up the road where i used to work doing clerical work but my mum (who works there) says they're not taking on agency workers at the moment so im going to fill it in again and state a different hospital as for my jabs etc i think i had those when i was about 11. References im not sure i can ring and ask my ex employer as i only handed in my notice last week and i would feel a bit awkward asking tbh i think they think i was going to go back after mat leave.

i've been trying to contact the dr's sec again to find out a date or to see if she has at least found my paperwork but i think she'd gone home for the day because she didnt answer.
i've also rand ofsted to check where my CRB is as i had dp's back last week but no sign of mine, she said it could be next week but she didnt really know.
so its still not going well but im feeling hopeful that it will all sort itself out. i really like the idea of doing carework so thanks for that idea im just hoping i can get some set up in time before my money runs out. dp is such a worrier and if i cant sort something out in time ill have to do bar work and the though fills me with dread.

OP posts:
mummyhill · 08/02/2006 16:58

Hang in there lovemygirls. It will all work itself out eventually. Good luck hun.

mumlove · 08/02/2006 17:07

have you thought about somewhere like tescos? Then you would get staff discount on your shopping that would help to with the money.

HellyBelly · 08/02/2006 17:25

Re: CRB - did you dp havea standard or enhanced CRB? Reason I ask is my dh's was standard and I rang after he'd got his but mine was no where in sight - it's because the enhanced ones take longer. Having said that, I presume your dp's was enhanced too as they recently changed the rules.

mszebra · 08/02/2006 17:35

sorry you're feeling so bad about it all, LMG. A friend of mine had her inspection 7 months ago & she still hasn't had the all-clear to be a registered cm. Very annoying.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but could you get the bar job just to get some hours/money in and when the last paperwork comes in you can change to cm'ing then?

LoveMyGirls · 08/02/2006 17:48

thanks for all your support i dont feel like i deserve it but im really grateful anyway.
about the bar job the truth is i just dont fancy it but i will do it if i have to because we cant afford for me not to work at all.
i have thought about asda/tesco but i read on the asda website they go through a right palava just so you can work a few hours behind the checkout - as if its your life long ambition or something! Though the money would be ok and the discount would definatly help especially as baby is going through nappies and baby milk etc (like they do)
helly, i dont know about the crb tbh everything else is taking so long its the least of my worries even if it takes a month its not going to be as long as this medical thing.
