You will be fine!! You don't need to prepare you just need to show your glowing self.

HellyBelly · 17/01/2006 16:28

What they coming for?

peckarollover · 17/01/2006 17:04

My first inspection since registration

HellyBelly · 17/01/2006 17:20

Blimey, that's short notice . I was terrified but it was fine. Just remember:

  1. You wash your hand towels every single day (or have separate towel for each mindee)
  2. Majorly praise at every opportunity
  3. If you have kids of your own, don't tell them to behave differently. I begged my ds to be a good boy when the lady came and he played up more, bringing down things he never does from upstairs and even the mindee kept saying "can i have the telly on, can I have the telly on" over and over - she knows the rules but was playing a game to wind me up. Ds's response was "no xxx, not while the lady is here!" - I could have died We don't have the tv on much but it looked like that's all we did - kids!
  4. Wash hands at every snack time etc. and have a set place for snacks aswell as lunch
  5. Deal with any bad behaviour like you would (I normally time out my ds upstairs and he cries for a bit then calms down, unfortunately this is the only thing that works with my ds but sometimes worry it sounds cruel so I didn't do it when inspector was here - mistake as was picked up for not dealing with it i.e. threat not carried out'

Really - don't worry!!! Just pointing these tiny things out. I still got 2 outstandings but if the above hadn't have been a problem, I might have got more?

Very best of luck!

babydales · 17/01/2006 18:08

Make sure your register is up to date especially for the day the inspector comes.
Make sure you have all consent forms especially medication ones signed and dated for each child.
Your inspector will ask you about birth to 3. If you have not already been on a course tell her you will go on one as soon as one becomes available. If you have any training certificates get them out and show her.Don't eat biscuits at snack time. Give the children a choice. I had a planned activity for the first 45 mins then snack, wash hands first, then free play whilst we spoke. Have you had chance to get any feedback on your service from your parents? Phone them this evening and get them to jot something down and give it to you tommorrow so you can show her. Sell yourself, and good luck.

puppy · 17/01/2006 19:52

You'll be fine

I agree with everybody else and I am sure you know this but registration and public liability (?sp) certificates are to be displayed.

Good Luck

peckarollover · 17/01/2006 20:26

is the public liability to be displayed too?? its in my portfolio

having an absolute mare

OP posts:
HellyBelly · 17/01/2006 20:32

Yes it does and I only found out a day or 2 before my inspection. You got bluetack? Just stick it up for now and I'm sure you'll be fine

As for stairgate, sure the inspector will understand if you explain. Just make sure you mention it!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

LoveMyGirls · 17/01/2006 21:47

Good Luck!

ThePrisoner · 17/01/2006 21:59

Good luck for tomorrow! I'm sure that you will be fine.

Tan1959 · 17/01/2006 23:00

Good luck and just be yourself

katymac · 18/01/2006 07:29

Good Luck

You'll be fine

She's only human - give her a cup of tea - then ask her to keep it away from the children, and remember to ask her to put her bag on a shelf/table (so the children can't get her keys/paracetamol/hairspray etc)

peckarollover · 18/01/2006 07:33

Thanks all, if Im not ready now I will never be.

There a few patchy pieces to everything I have but I cant control that now - just have to remind myself that Im still very new and can only learn from the experience.

LoveMyGirls · 18/01/2006 08:01

do you know what timem she's comingor do they not tell you? let us know how it goes

Isyhan · 18/01/2006 08:22

this discussion is giving me kittens. im not yet registered but im sure in my head that i thought the ofsted visits would be a little friendly chat now it seems theyre not. sorry for lack of capitals im cuddling a baby at same time as typing.

HellyBelly · 18/01/2006 09:34

Pecka - hope you got my last email in time? Anyway, you'll probably be having your inspection now - hope it's going ok!! Let us know how you get on!!

Sure you'll be great!

BookwormAnnie · 18/01/2006 11:07

I'm sure it's all gone well, but it's gut wrenching isn't it? Esp if you are a paperwork 'last minuter'like me!! Just be yourself and ask for advice and the benefit of their experience, (Who doesn't like a bit of flattery?)
Have a treat tonight and lots of hugs if kids were good or even if they weren't!!

peckarollover · 18/01/2006 12:14

cant believe this time yesterday I didnt even know that my inspection was due and now its all over!!

The most stressful 12 hours of my life lol

Anyway, it was ok - DS played up really badly - how do they know when not to be a little b*gger!!!!

I got good in every area and good altogether. She said that was excellent and the highest she thought she should give as I only mind 1.5 days a week and only did 0.5 days a week until last week.

She said all comments on the report will be positive. The only one that was almost negative was that I have two boxes stacked on top of each other and she thought I should seperate them.

So if that is the worst she can say I think I did ok

Thanks so much especially to Helly!!!! I needed to be calmed down last night after the phone call!

All over for 3 years YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im SO going to have a drink tonight lol

puppy · 18/01/2006 12:23

babydales · 18/01/2006 12:26

Brilliant, Well Done.

agalch · 18/01/2006 12:55

Peckarollover

How do you mean all over for three years? Do you not get inspected every year? i do and just was curious. Sorry if being nosy btw

HellyBelly · 18/01/2006 12:57

WELL DONE PECKA!!! That's really good!

agalch - I think it may have changed?? I was told 'see you in 3 years!' at mine recently and I thought it was going to be every year too!

peckarollover · 18/01/2006 13:07

Is good still good?

OP posts:
HellyBelly · 18/01/2006 13:27

Good is good yes Your report will show it as above what is expected (or something like that )

kizzypie · 18/01/2006 14:13

hi I was wondering about that too algach. So in England does everyone only get 1 inspection every 3 years, and how long does it take. My last one was less than an hour but here (in scotland) we get an annual inspection. And do you get a rating like poor or very good cos we dont. kizzypie
