i have been distracted from this stress by the prospect of imminent redundancy which of course doesn't mean we won't need after school care, oh no.

...otherwise you would have heard me screaming, yes!

turns out the nanny is not coming back...

Oh dear. what a disaster.

Within 2 weeks of me starting my current job my grandfather got VERY seriously ill in hospital, and it was only me and my mum whio could drive my grandmother to the hospital to see him!

I have to say my boss was great and kept telling me to take days off if necessary, but i NEVER did, tho i did sometimes leave just a bit early when she finished earlier etc.

I wish you lots of luck in finding a nanny who sticks with you (we ARE around, but by definition are hard to find.... i know lots of nannies (myself included) who remain with their families for years and years!) (infact all my close nanny frinds have clocked up 5 years plus!)

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 20:26

you really have gone trough the wrangler with nannies haven't you. Poor you!!

There are nannies who do take their job seriously but you obviuosly have been unfortunate enough to not come across them.

Personally i wouldn't take a job unless i knew it was right for me, i hate moving families unless i have to, it's nice to settle and become part of that family.

Good luck, hope it works out very soon for you.

I think its quite at xmas too cos nannies like to ne with their families at xmas and not move on at that time of year.

bossykate · 14/12/2005 20:40

tbh, it is our nanny who is having the worse time

no matter what the inconvenience to us (considerable) - at least we don't have a loved one dying

but, being only human, i had to grit my teeth somewhat to write that!

yes, i think we have had bad luck - either that or my judgment is sh*te

shameless self-indulgent bump for more people to sympathise

oh god-sounds like a nightmare. Just about to employ my first nanny-the fact that the contract is now in it's third draft does not inspire me with confidence! suspect I may be starting a thread like this all of my own soon!

ParrupupumScum · 14/12/2005 21:41

Sympathy to you.

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 21:43

Chipkid...at least if your both being thorough then there is no room for error or any excuse for things to arise that you didn't account for.

I'm not awkward but am very thoruogh cos i have worked for some awkward people who have been very unfair so i make sure the contract covers everything just incase.

I am hoping that is the case. She is lovely face to face and references are excellent. I am a lawyer as is my husband-she is probably worried that we are going to take advantage. I guess she doesn't know me and I don't know her yet. So sorting out these issues are vital. I am trying to stay positive because my gut instincts about her are good

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 21:55

thats goo gut instincts are usually quite right, good luck hope it all goes well. I haven't worked for over a year and i miss it now (but not quite enough to go back yet tee hee )

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 21:55

sorry i meant thats good not thats goo!!

matnanplus · 14/12/2005 22:05

Poor you BK, were there any other candidates you liked last time? might it be worth a ring to them?

Chipkid, many revisions can be a positive thing as much less misunderstanding.

All the best, it can be a hard thing but long
term, reliable, dependable nannies are out there.

chipkid · 14/12/2005 22:09

are you on mat leave nannyjo?

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 22:11

well i was but decided i would stay off and look after DS, now pregnant with next one so i'll go back to work after second (no more) and find a job to settle in. I knew i wanted 2 and didn't want to settle in a family to leave them a little later.

chipkid · 14/12/2005 22:14

you sound like a great nanny. sorry for the interruption BK-really hope you get something sorted

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 22:19

thank you chipkid. I think i'm good but i am worried how different things will be now. might not be able to go back to it and look at going back to nursery work which i would rather not do. Who knows its a long way off now

nannyjo · 14/12/2005 22:19

sorry that sounded really big headed.

Sorry Bk to hijack.

chipkid · 14/12/2005 22:23

no it didn't sound bigheaded-it sounded responsible! I am just returning to work after 18 months on mat leave with child no. 2 think that is all part of my anxiety-real step into unknown!
sorryBK!

chipkid · 14/12/2005 22:24

nannyjo-I am terrified that the law relating to children will have completely changed after 18 months and I will only find out on my first day back when I make an application which no longer exists in law!

ladymuck · 14/12/2005 22:28

BK - my sincere sympathies. This is not what you need at any time, let alone in the run up to Christmas, and with school hols looming. I do empathise - my 2 temporary nannies have been really busy recently and I now can't get cover for my works do on Friday, and a day or two next week is looking tricky (and of course there are various year end deadlines which in practice mean pre-Christmas deadlines).

When do you find out about the redundancy?

bossykate · 14/12/2005 22:44

nannnyjo wrote "at least if your both being thorough then there is no room for error or any excuse for things to arise that you didn't account for"

i hope you are not implying that i have not been thorough - i can assure you i have jumped through hoops to make sure our candidates have been thoroughly checked out - to the extent where i have lost good people because they have had offers from other families who are not so diligent

apologies if i have misunderstood.

thanks to everyone else who has replied

am seriously fed up - will try and come back and let you know the plan as soon as.

thanks again.

BK
NannyJo was aiming that comment at me as I was worried about my new nanny being picky over the detail and wording of the contract in my post to you.
There is no way your situation could have been catered for-it is sheer bad luck.
