It's ridiculous that she can't get milk tokens. How stupid is that?! Poor girl. And poor baby. Are there no charities that could help her?

staceym11 · 25/10/2005 21:06

hope this all turns out well, if she wants to turn to a young mum who has had problems you could cat me and il email you so she can email me (from a library or your house if you are so kind), she probably wont take this offer up but i could have done with someone when i had dd and i was 17 and had family!

RavishingBrunette · 25/10/2005 21:11

it's all very well saying she can't get milk tokens, but why isn't she breastfeeding still ?

Absolutely the best thing for the baby & free to the mother.

(.....runs & ducks for cover)

And where are her parents ? & why should the state (us that work & pay taxes) have to subsidise her et al ?

my dd wouldnt breastfeed, i wanted to didnt have any milk/bottles or anything and 36 hrs after i had her i had to go and buy some stuff because she would latch, suck then spit it at me.

not everyone can breastfeed and some people acctually find it traumatising, she should be getting milk tokens but they wont provide, a sad situation but theres nothing can be done.

as for the 'why should we have to pay' because accidents happen and we cant always control, she is bringing up the next generation for this earth, to keep the economy going and to keep your nursing home open, dont be so negative towards her! theres nothing to say that she wont get a job when she finishes school and is old enough.

sorry but cant stand people bitching about the state paying for everything, put yourself into her shoes, you are young, defenceless and all you wanna do is look after your child with bugger all money, shes doing her best. if it were you i bet you'd like some help too!

right rant over.

This is RB's only post - step away....

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 21:36

at poor girl not getting milk tokens - what kind of lunatic system is that?!

As for RB - not even worth commenting on that - pathetic.

RavishingBrunette · 25/10/2005 21:58

why is it pathetic ? that's the problem with this country in that we are all subsidising everyones mistakes.

yes she did make a mistake, so why did she go and have the baby?

I really hope that her child becomes a fine upstanding member of society.unfortunately I suspect he won't.

TBH I'm fed up with having my baby weighed and seeing young/old mothers get their milk tokens for their babies and then lighting a fag. Yes I suspect the sum of money the government pays in milk tokens is considerable - and it's all unnecessary payouts. At the end of the day it's all about looking after yourself/your own & clearly that isn't going on here. Next thing I expect she'll be getting a council flat, because her family aren't prepared to look after her.

Agree this is a shame - are milk tokens going to make a difference ? of course not, the baby will still be eating crap. A very, very sorry modern tale.

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 22:00

Would be subsidising your ill-mannered rantings by responding with anything other than broad dismissal of your views, RB.

Oh yes, absolutely, RB, her child will no doubt turn out horrible, let's not bother giving it proper food and drink.

[where's that sarcasm smiley when you need it ...]

katymac · 25/10/2005 22:05

Yep - I put dried apricots and raisins in mine (cherries too - but if jam isn't approved of neither will cherries)

Nice change of subject meggymoo

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 22:12

No i havent tried prunes eyt but i will next week.

And as for RB, i think you comments are shocking and you should be more caring when people need help, it might be your child that will fall pregnant at 13 and needs some help and guidance. It happens and she is dealing with what she has been given to the best of her knowledge. People make mistakes - Are you perfect Rb, Never needed help or guidance?? And frankly it is none of your business about her family situation. Thankyou very much.

RB i find your way of thinking outrageous. Yes it isnt ideal that she is such a young mum but it sounds like she is doing the best she can. Mistakes happen. If you are so outraged by the whole thing then why dont you help address the problem that britain has with teenage mums...try and find out why this is happening and help. Comments like yours only fuel the abandonment by society these young mums feel when they turn for help. So they try to do it alone and then it all falls apart. I say good on her it sounds like she has taken steps to try and do whats best.
Also i truely hope that your attitude dosent become the norm because when im old or god forbid ill i will need the next generations tax paying money to help me .....swings and roundabouts huh
