So long as you can justify your expenses, then that's fine isn't it?

My expenses are much more

menee · 30/01/2011 16:13

no it dosnt, 1470 can be written off straight away with ur 10% allowance then theres food, outings, toiletries, gas electric council tax water, toys, craftstuff, equipment, mines about 55% as the more i earn the more i seem to spend :( but its how it is

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:15

I can justify everything, receipt are well kept Smile.

Reality - You say that 2 k taxes is masses but 14700 is a lot no ? I put everything I could think of,phone stationnery, food equipment, yep everything. Thank you for your very quick answers !!

I claim for my cleaner but only asked for 50 % even if she looks after all the rooms that I use for childminding. I claim 350 pounds instead of 700 pounds. Shall I claim for the whole lot ?

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:18

I didnt claim for wipes, shall I make a claim on wipes, I use about 3-4 bags of wipes a week. Its my first big claim, can you tell ? Next year I get an accountant !

I agree doesn't look enough. I'm currently stressing my way through my figures and so far my expenses on approx. £27,000k are £15k - all justified and still more to log.

Have you included mileage? That hugely whacks my expenses up!!

menee · 30/01/2011 16:21

claim for all toiletries, the toiliet rolls they use, the handwash for your mindees when washing hands, etc.......claim for any nappies u buy, i dont have a cleaner so i dont claim for one.
your mobile phone? percentage of broadband?

KatyMac · 30/01/2011 16:22

Um & mine....nah you don't want to know mine

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:22

I dont drive ! What do you think of claiming for a cleaner ?

Looney - you earn 27 k ??? My god, you must work day and night !!!!

menee · 30/01/2011 16:24

looney my expenses on 23000 are 13500 about 56/57%, i find the more i earn the more i take them out - if you get me, i spend more on stuff for them, i love doing stuff with them. The more i earn the more kids i feed etc......the more toiletries i have to buy, is all justifiable

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:24

Percentage of broadband, I didnt know I could claim for that one as well as it is part of a package !

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:26

One childminder tried to help me doing my taxes return but she got it wrong, for example taking your 10 % wear and tear out of the total gross income-expenses and she also told me not to claim over 25 % otherwise it looks dodgy !

OP posts:
menee · 30/01/2011 16:26

do you use internet for your books? for filing ur tax return? for printing stuff off for mindees, for registering onto courses? i do all the above and my policies and sourcing information for events etc, so i put 25% through

menee · 30/01/2011 16:27

you DO take 10% out of you total earnings - agreement with tax office and ncma for wear and tear on your home, so out of your earnings you would take £1470 straight away

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:28

menee - Yes I do actually, thank you for your help !!!

OP posts:
Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:29

Menee - I know now but when I didnt know that I was looking at a almost 3 grands tax bill !!

Shall I claim all for my cleaner ?

ValLongstreet · 30/01/2011 16:29

If your turnover is £14,700 is that before or after you have taken your personal allowance into account? Can't see how you should be paying £1,900 tax on that amount. And agree you should claim everything you can.

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:31

Its before I take personnal allowance and everything. Personal allowance is 6750 ? No ?

OP posts:
menee · 30/01/2011 16:33

i would only claim for the proportion of rooms you use for minding that ur cleaner cleans, if that makes sence. but ive never used one, thats maybe a question for hmrc

Childminderindistress · 30/01/2011 16:34

Every rooms are used for childminding, I'll give them a call later ! Thank you menee
