hi. has anyone ever used a nanny cam. if so how did you set it up and did you find it to be useful?

OP posts:

If you feel you need a camera then you have the wrong nanny.

OrmRenewed · 19/07/2010 16:22

Blimey !

That sounds outrageous. Do people do this sort of thing?

colditz · 19/07/2010 16:23

You cannot video someone without their knowledge and consent.

tiredandgrouchy · 19/07/2010 16:30

Interesting first post.
Do I take it deemee stands for Daily Mail?

thisisyesterday · 19/07/2010 16:31

will the nanny know she is being filmed?

HSMM · 19/07/2010 16:43

Even if the nanny consented, what happens if you log on to have a look just as your child has decided to throw a tantrum?

nannynick · 19/07/2010 17:25

Think you may get better response posting on a message board designed for those in the United States.
Most of us on here are in the UK, where covert surveillance within a private home would not be the norm.

pippin26 · 19/07/2010 17:28

My thoughts are if you need a camera then there is already a breakdown in the trust relationship! Not a good situation

Bacofoil · 19/07/2010 17:30

what's the story, deemee?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/07/2010 18:13

why do you want one?

you obv have concerns

ViveLaFrak · 19/07/2010 18:26

In the UK you would to make the nanny aware that you have a camera or you risk lots of legal problems. You cannot use any covert evidence as part of a case for dismissal so really a nanny-cam could be more of a curse than a blessing. You may have evidence that your nanny is endangering your children but you can't use it as you can't sack her without hard evidence that would stand up.

coventgarden · 19/07/2010 18:28

If you want a camera because you think your nanny is up to no good then you need to get rid of the nanny. If they were to cause harm to your child, would you feel better because you had it on camera?

nowwearefour · 19/07/2010 18:32

my goodness. choose a nanny you trust. or use a nursery. not a good thought process. the relationship has to be based on trust.

nannynick · 19/07/2010 18:35

Maybe they want a nannycam to spy on the parents

ShadeofViolet · 19/07/2010 18:36

I agree with MoonUnit - why would you leave your child with someone you dont trust?

Shallishanti · 19/07/2010 18:38

If I was a nanny I would not work for an employer who suggested this

BoysAreLikeDogs · 19/07/2010 18:50

quite

Strix · 19/07/2010 19:56

Oi Nick,

"Think you may get better response posting on a message board designed for those in the United States.

WTF was that about????

Strix (US Citizen, UK resident)

OP,
I completely agree that if you need a nanny cam, you need a new nanny and should just skip the filming stage.

StarExpat · 19/07/2010 20:43

Agree with strix
Same circs
WTF nannynick?

StarExpat · 19/07/2010 20:48

However- I know a family (here in the uk) who have a nannycam but openly discussed it with prospective nannies. It's live, they can pop on at work anytime and see their kids at play. Any nanny uncomfortable with it they completely understood it just wasn't the Job for them. They found someone who didn't mind it. They are all seemingly happy.

I was really shocked at first, but then saw that a nursery local to me has live webcams going in their rooms and parents get a password to log on and they can go on and see their child at nursery at anytime. So, maybe she found a nanny who previously worked in a nursery like that.

Oddly, I loved the idea f it on a nursery bubwS weird about it with a nanny. Bu I guess it's similar... Different strokes/different folks

ShadeofViolet · 19/07/2010 20:49

I agree with NannyNick - Nannycam's are bigger in America surely - I watched Maury on Maternity Leave

StarExpat · 19/07/2010 20:50

Sorry keyboard went all wrong on that last line.
So,
Of
But was
But

StarExpat · 19/07/2010 20:53

Nannycams are bigger in the US (where I am from), however, nannies are typically aware of them.

nannynick · 19/07/2010 21:55

Glad some people agree with me... Nannycams are at least portrayed to be be quite common place in the US - consider those US News Clips you can find online.
