I'm 34+3 and baby's currently OP. Had an emcs with DD 19 months ago and I'm desperate for a VBAC but there seem to be so many variables and I'm just dreading another OP labour.
Anyone fancy joining?

I had VBAC 2nd time around. First baby overdue, went into be induced, they took one look at my size and babys and opted for a C section.

Second baby I wanted VBAC, but I got a 2nd opinion and was told due to my skin type and 10Lb first born, I should opt for another C secion as I'd probably have problems later on.

I ignored the advice and the hospital and midwives were amenable to VBAC and I felt it was the right course at the time. He came on his due date after 10 hour labour from beginning to end. Was able to stay at home until 10 centimetres dilated, went in and was ready to start pushing, but I was rubbish at that bit and so it took another 3 hours to get him out. I had no pain relief, not even gas and air. I did have appesitomy and was monitored throughout with a sensor that midwife kept pushing on my pubic bone to hear the heartbeat, and she wanted to put and IV in but I refused and she agreed not to. It was straight forward and exactly according to birth-plan (down to the silly thing I wrote about no pain relief)!

Over-all I'm glad I had the experience of birth, although I found the healing after a delivering a 9lb baby longer than the C section and more painful purely down to bad piles and an infection following many stitches. I think the 2nd opinion I had, was in hindsight correct. I do now have one or two problems due to my skin type and delivering large babies. So do all your research and take advice, I think I had a bit of a earth-mother view about wanting to give birth naturally and it 'completing me as a woman' milarky, when in the very long-run, having less post birth problems over the years would have been better. But DS lovely boy of 8 now and all worth it in the end.

Hello girls, could not help but jump in at this junction. I completely agree with mitfordsisters. Stay positive and do not go to the hospital too early. I went when I was about 4 cm and they instantly gave me a 6 hr deadline before starting the cs. If i had been about 9cm they would have let me push by baby out. There were no problems with me progressing except that it was not quick enough for the doctors. I do want another child but fear that they will force me to have a cs again as my 1st and 2nd were exactly thesame, not progressing quick enough. I got to 6cm with my 1st and 7 cm with my 2nd. Wish I had someone strong with me all the way. My DH did not want to take chances and requested the cs the 1st time. So sad.

giggles that is so sad, if you had another is there anyone else that could come with you as well as your dh to offer you some support. Why do the hospital staff hate us VBACers so much? You'd think they'd be extra kind to us knowing that we'd perhaps had a traumatic delivery before. Hugs to you and your family.
