So in my other thread I was worried about being forced into hospital strapped to a bed on a drip etc, well waters broke this morning, decided to stay at home until midwives said to do otherwise (if his heartbeat dropped etc) was only 3cms dilated so midwive left, 2 hours later called them to say contractions are very strong, stood up and within 3 pushes he was out, doula caught him, midwives arrived 5 minutes later and said he looks well and now I'm laying here on my couch, with my 7lb13 baby boy in a fleecy sling sleeping and all is perfect!

No I had a midwife supervisor come out at first, but I was only 3cms dilated and she was about to go off call, but she said to call her if I had any problems (i.e midwives trying to get me into hospital with no apparent reason) she said as long as baby's heartbeat was normal then I was fine at home.
The second set of midwives only arrived after baby was born.
In the meantime I went from 3cms to baby out in two hours. Have torn but midwife wasn't eager to stitch me at all, said I would naturally heal.
First midwife called me to check and was very happy for me that I got to give birth at home

mumtotwoboys · 15/04/2010 13:40

thanks

MumNWLondon his growth (abdominal circumfrence) was tailing off on the percentile charts in the last few weeks, consultant wanted to induce me and said if not she'd certainly want me in hospital on monitor during birth.
Midwife said i was measuring 34 cms too and hadn't grown in a month or so, so she thought he'd be so small is lungs may not cope. 'he may die' etc
I didn't believe any of it, obviously he was 7lb13, he'd have to be 5lb or under for his size to affect him that badly surely, they were just outright against homebirth.
My own consultant who isn't against homebirth couldn't tell me any extra risks I was under, all rubbish really..
Thankfully a nice midwife came out

Wow, puts almost 8lbs baby into perspective then!

sweetkitty · 16/04/2010 07:52

Oh lovely story huge congratulations, do you have a name for him?

And what's your secret, I could do with a birth like that in a few weeks

mumtotwoboys · 16/04/2010 08:13

it's Jacob.

Tips; hehe
Breath through it, I had a hypno CD I rememebred some of, when you get a contraction picture the baby being pushed one step close to being with you, when you remember that he's going through it with you it makes you want to relax and breath through it despite the pain, because you want it to be peaceful for him too,
as opposed to thoughts such as; 'wtf this hurts so unfair arg'
Stay sitting up with knees wide apart, then standing sped it up emmensly for me, I felt him drop down the birth canal.
I'm really wondering why the hospital midwives watched me roar through 20 minutes of pushing while laying down last time, if being upright is SO much easier?? It was less that 5 minutes, one push for the head, 2 minute break, then another push and his body was out.
