DF, in my case, I was high on drugs, just had my abdomen stitched back together that morning, and some non-medical numpty stranger was leering at my baby holding a big fecking camera, 'He's so beautiful, would you like his picture taken?'

No, PISS OFF! Like someone else said, I have a better camera than you.

usualsuspect · 27/02/2010 00:22

No was all box cameras in my day...

RoseWater · 27/02/2010 00:26

DF - pretty much spot on - bit like NHS sanctioned Venture - takes not great photos, charges OTT prices and uses parental emotion to get you to buy them

Yes she got a shot of DS but it did not do my PFB justice so didn't get one and was locked away in a side room with DD so escaped

DuelingFanjo · 27/02/2010 00:32

no way! sounds horrendous! Do they come just minutes or hours after the birth?

ravenAK · 27/02/2010 00:39

AND they try & tell you that you 'need' their pack of crappy samples & money off vouchers (ie. please sign up your details to be sold on to every marketing vulture we can reach...), because 'It's got the Child Benefit forms in'.

Which are available online or from the PO.

Take pack, cherry pick free samples (useful little pot of sudocrem & travel toothpaste, usually), hand rest back to Bounty lady.

Say in loud carrying voice 'ARE YOU ONE OF THESE DODGY BOUNTY MARKETING REPS I'VE BEEN WARNED ABOUT ON MUMSNET? NO, I DON'T WANT A PHOTO, & CAN YOU PLEASE GET ALL THIS RUBBISH OFF MY BED? BYE...'

YanknCock · 27/02/2010 09:24

DF, at my hospital they seem to just come round at the same time every day, so pounce on everyone in the ward at that time regardless of how long it's been since you gave birth. If you are awake and your curtain is open, you're fair game.

Rockbird · 27/02/2010 09:27

Mine wasn't Bounty it was a different company, Weeny Fluffy Smiles or some such nonsense. Was still shite though.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 27/02/2010 09:38

I got the Bounty picture for dd the lady was lovely and I was in a sopy hormonal high.
She came back to me later as when she came round first dd was going to be bathed.
It is actually a cute scrummy photo of dd all she did was unwrap her blanket a bit for a better view and dd never stirred just slep soundly and looked lovely.

Never with ds, was going to but he was needing fed and so wouldn't settle, same nice woman again so she was trying to get the scrummy sleepy type photo I got of dd. By the tme she managed to come back I was heading home so never got it and ds was always so hard to take pictures of never got a great one of him myself either.

notsoteenagemum · 27/02/2010 09:52

We were skint when DD was born so said no thank goodness, but Mil said she wanted to pay for them when we had DS.
Firstly she insulted me DS was 9lb 5oz she said "Ouch did you have loads of stitches"
I said "none actually"
to which she said "God I bet you get called some names then don't you"
Whilst I was keeled over from the shock of being called bucket fanjo, she proceeded to scoop up sleeping day old ds and swing him throught the air to wake him up she managed one picture before I grabbed him back, he was screaming.
When the photo's came we were offered the lot for £13 because they were 'poor quality' I sent them back with a letter of complaint.

Intergalactic · 27/02/2010 09:53

I had a photo taken of DS as she said they needed to do it for security even if I didn't want to buy any. They were pretty poor photos. She wasn't impressed when my DH told her we didn't need them as he's trained in photography. And he did take some wonderful pictures of DS in hospital as we waited literally a whole day for someone to discharge us.

luciemule · 27/02/2010 09:57

When DD was born 8 yrs ago, I was in for 5 days and the Bounty Lady came round every morning like clockwork. Eventually, we agreed but although I have the photo and my DD's face is sooo cute, the cover the Bounty woman laid her on was white, as was her babygrow so it looks as though there's just a head. We did buy it but that's because we stupidly hadn't taken any in the hospital (other than what grandparents had taken of themselves with her).

cory · 27/02/2010 12:17

We did buy them both times. Dd's wasn't
ok but not really that wonderful: the one done of ds is actually the best baby photo we have of him. Looks like a studio photo. And she seemed a nice lady.

4andnotout · 27/02/2010 12:33

DD1-yes
DD2-yes
DD3-No, couldn't stay in hospital another day until she visted and dd3 wasn't the most photogenic of babies anyway
DD4-Yes

I don't have any of the photos on display, i think they are put away somewhere.

BornToFolk · 27/02/2010 12:36

DS had his photo taken. DP was there and we were packing up to go home. DS was finally sleeping in that plastic cot thing after feeding/crying all night. The Bounty lady asked us to pick DS up. DP refused. She then said that she had to take a photo for security reasons. So, we let her snap one of DS and made it clear that we wouldn't be buying anything.
Grrr.

crankytwanky · 27/02/2010 12:47

Borntofolk and notsoteenagemum!

FWIW bounty ladies really shouldn't be looking in your notes. If they are huffy, complain to the MW. "Security reasons" my arse.

I don't remember being asked tbh. MW gave me my bounty pack.

carrieboo75 · 27/02/2010 13:10

I missed the photo person each time and so I look all three of them back to the hospital at 1 week old to have theirs done.

DS1 hosp in London, lady lovely, photo fab, price good.
DS2 hosp in sussex, lady lovely, photo fab, price good.
DS3 hosp in sussex, lady lovely, photo fab, price good.

I don't know if going in in my own time made a difference but each time they put the effort in and got a great photo. Mine are on my upstairs landing in birth order and it is a great way of looking at their similarities and differences as the pictures are all the same .

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/02/2010 13:26

No. I had a private room and so escaped, no-one ever came. I would have told them to bugger off anyway, it is outrageous that they are allowed unsupervised access to new mums and able to put people under such pressure.

frasersmummy · 27/02/2010 13:32

Our bounty lady was really lovely

When she came round she was very unobtrusive..She just said she would like to take a quick picture of our lovely child and leave us paperwork that we can order from anytime in the following 4 years

Never pressured us....

we did look at the prices but it was very expensive and we had taken loads ourself

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2010 13:33

yes but didn't buy it

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2010 13:34

because they got the wrong baby, mine was never this red and squishy

Thingiebob · 27/02/2010 13:41

Yes
The Bounty lady was lovely. She came round after I had a v traumatic birth, just finished a blood transfusion and my daughter was ill so I asked her if we could do it another time and she was fine. She did it a few days later, and spent ages getting the picture we liked.

We paid about fifty quid for the presentation kit and got loads of different sized prints, keyrings and a wallet photo. You also get a downloadable jpg. Personally I think it was good value for money but if I had to do it again, I would probably purchase just one or two prints at a lower cost as it is just the one pose and we do now have lots of versions of the same picture!

OTTMummA · 27/02/2010 20:09

yes, i was in a private room and had a good nights sleep so was in a good mood, felt a bit lonely as it was the morning after i had the section, so apart from the pictures in theatre the rest weren't that great tbh as visitors came in the evening and i was still high on GA lol,
so i had the pictures done and i loved them, he was sleeping blissfully with a smile, wrapped up in a white blanket in his cot, no redness or puffyness. a very good photo actually.
it was the same angle as the 3d scan pic we got done privatley, we still like to compare them now as its astounding how similar they are.
and i think if you do it for one you should do it for the next/rest. its only fair.

mawbroon · 27/02/2010 20:22

I think the bounty lady correctly interpreted my "feck off" look correctly last time. My curtains were drawn and she came in. Didn't offer the picture and left a pack.

I am looking forward to seeing if they do the same this time round (imminenet...)

mcflumpy · 28/02/2010 02:27

No. I wondered too why the 'Bounty Hunters' were allowed on the ward. I was in for a week and every day she tried to make me feel so small for not buying her crappy photos. Then of course promptly move on to the next more polite mum who would buy the photos and indulge in her fake cheery chat. Became somewhat of a sport after a couple of days thinking of ways to let her down gently...

Ridiculous that they are permitted to just charge in even when curtains are pulled to disrupt your bonding and recovery time...

mummysgoingmad · 28/02/2010 02:37

yes and they were CRAP!!! thats what happens when they send you home with tramadol and a raging tempreture, you buy shite
