ds1 - no, refused.
ds2 - was at home so n/a

littlemisslozza · 26/02/2010 13:01

Yes, both times.
Too expensive so didn't buy them, and I had loads of gorgeous photos I'd taken myself. In fact, with DS2 I took a photo straight after the bounty lady had gone so I have the same one anyway!

DS1 had forceps marks and bruising so didn't even consider buying the picture but they took it anyway for security reasons apparently. Now they tag the babies at our hospital so I don't think they need a photo too.
Good luck with your baby

MrsJohnDeere · 26/02/2010 13:03

no ,refused with both dcs

bonkerz · 26/02/2010 13:06

we did with our DS 9 years ago and was looking forward to getting it for DD 4 years ago but lady took picture and then when i rang to get them about 3 weeks after i was told they had been lost! Was gutted. They were so unhelpful too that i wont bother ever again! Luckily my BIL who visited about 10 hours after DD was born took some gorgeous close ups of DD so we did have something!

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 26/02/2010 13:08

No. She rudely barked 'Why?' and I said because my camera was better than hers. Off she stomped.

BackToBasics · 26/02/2010 13:12

I did with my dd but sent the photos back because they were awful!

With ds i didn't bother. Your own photos are better.

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/02/2010 13:14

I was in hospital for 6 days after DS was born and she came round every morning hassling people. I refused the first few days because he had big bruises from forceps and vonteuse, then he went bright yellow with jaundice, and then he was mid-feed. Eventually she took it the day before we were discharged. He was asleep with his head to one side, so we got a sleeping profile. Didn't buy it as we'd taken loads of better ones ourselves.

I noticed in the local paper that they are advertising for a new person to take the photos. I wonder if it's cos she was such a crap photographer, or just that nobody buys them as they are so overpriced.

I don't think it was the Bounty lady though, I'm sure the company had some twee name - 'Precious Memories' or something awful like that!!

TabithaTwitchet · 26/02/2010 13:14

No. She came round just after we had been moved to the ward, and DD still had blood in her hair, hadn't got round to washing it off at that point.
I asked her if she could come back later, but she didn't.

morethemerrier · 26/02/2010 13:19

Hi I was pounced on having given birth a few hours earlier, and still on a high!

So did get the photos done, think it cost about £45 for the cheapest set, but to be honest when I look at them now he was still red puffy and blotchy, and barely awake!

I feel bad for putting him through a mini photo shoot that soon!

The family photos were much nicer, and natural and did not require him being 'staged'!

Wouldn't have them done again! Maybe I just had a pushy sales person as I did feel 'obliged'.

Besom · 26/02/2010 13:20

Yes but won't be doing it next time - waste of money.

SparklyJules · 26/02/2010 13:23

I did, 6 years ago tho! The lady was lovely, DD was still covered in blood and gunk so she waited and came back after she'd been bathed. I remember being very impressed by how kind and gentle she was with the babies and the mums.

The picture was ok, DD had her hands up, like a boxer, but I still bought it because I'm a sap and it was her first "professional" photo. Also, I think this was before we had a digital camera so don't remember taking any great pictures in the hospital.

Didn't get one with DS - was only in for 6hrs and stayed on delivery. Didn't get my bounty bags either, but there's nowt in them anyway!

chopstheduck · 26/02/2010 13:23

I never got the chance.
I got the packs, but never offered a photo. Prob wouldn't have bothered though, they don't really look their best in the first few days!

babyicebean · 26/02/2010 13:25

NO

The first had been transferred to SCBU and they didn't catch me

The second I refused as the first hadn't had them done

The third I was missed out as I was in a side ward and didn't get the bounty pack either.

psychomum5 · 26/02/2010 13:35

yes, all 5 times, but TBH, this was first time 16yrs (almost) and the last time 7yrs ago, so the price is forgotten, altho I don;t remember falling down in shock.

I love the pics of the boys......by the time I had them they took the pics on the first day while they were still in cribs and swaddled and asleep.

with the girls, they pulled them out of their cribs and placed them on a plastic mat, so they opened their eyes in shock of the cold, and she snapped. I was ok with them, until I had the boys.....I now look with sadness at the girls pics as they just look a bit peeved and not all scrummy and newborn (IYGWIM).

I like them as the big pics came with name, date, time of birth and birth weight printed at the bottom.

geogteach · 26/02/2010 13:36

I have had them for mine. For passport photos as much as anything. First few weeks you have other things to think about than getting them done then as they get older it becomes harder to get them in a suitable position etc. All my 3 kids had their bounty photo on their passport till they were 5 years old!

Ineedsomesleep · 26/02/2010 14:07

DS was having his hearing test when they came around.

DD, yss we did buy them, but think I was in a hormoe induced haze as they aren't really very good.

Ineedsomesleep · 26/02/2010 14:08

That should have been hormone. Sorry.

mummyplonk · 26/02/2010 14:16

Thanks everyone, seems to be about 50/50 good/bad experiences at the moment. I have been told we get offered it at our hospital.

stressheaderic · 26/02/2010 23:10

I refused. The fact that a woman who has no medical knowledge, but is simply a sales rep/photographer can bustle in and out of the ward doing this when women are at their most vulnerable, whilst acting all midwife-y, and going in my handheld notes to get my details, but not being able to give DP a real reason why...makes me furious.

Hulababy · 26/02/2010 23:13

Is that the one done in hospital?

If so yes we did have tit taken and bought it, as felt we should. Got passport photos at same time via it. Was the worst picture of DD that has ever been taken!

Rockbird · 26/02/2010 23:19

I did. Photos were horrid, dd looked like Bernard Manning. Everyone told me to steer clear but I wouldn't have it because a) I was full of hormones and b) dd was too gorgeous to take a crap photo.

I was wrong wrong and wrong. Won't do it with dc2. Sorry dc2.

kissprudence · 27/02/2010 00:09

No freaking way. I have my own camera thank you v much.

YanknCock · 27/02/2010 00:14

I refused. And refused again the next day (was in after an EMCS). And got the hell out of there on the 3rd day before she could ask me again.

I'd been warned off by MNers!

DuelingFanjo · 27/02/2010 00:15

Can someone please explain the concept of 'the Bounty lady' to me please? Is this a lady who stalks hospitals asking new mums if she can take their photos?

YanknCock · 27/02/2010 00:17

Come to think of it, why ARE they allowed to come around and hassle you while you are recovering from childbirth/major surgery? This actually really pisses me off now that I think about it. Surely it should be something you have to request rather than these random people wandering the wards and bothering everyone?
