I think f you're still ok mning then probbaly not quite ready yet

however if you live miles and miles away and have history of fast labours, then maybe

Aswell as how often, how do they feel? Have they changed since they stated, and in the last hour?

thelittlebluepills · 17/02/2010 21:15

yes - get going. I thought that every contraction had to be exactly 4 mins apart before i left for the hospital - fortunately MN told me different and DS2 was born 45 mins after we got there.

(To be fair I was all for staying at home and was trying to work out if I had time to order a curry but DH was quite insistent that we went to the hospital )

good luck

Only thing is I have Step B and childcare to sort out.
This happened last night then stopped. Had a sweep today and was 3cm????

which birth is this?

thelittlebluepills · 17/02/2010 21:19

Be on the safe side and sort the childcare out - think people would prefer a false alarm

how about having a bath? I was told that it wwould slow/stop a false labour but help a "true" labour?

ibetitsonlyme · 17/02/2010 21:24

baby number 2, first was 36 weeks born in 12 hours from 1st contraction. I am 40 weeks +3 this time.......

now seem to be lasting about 30secs every 6mins....

Time to go I think!

don't forget to let us know how it goes!

DrivenToDistraction · 17/02/2010 21:28

My first baby was born in 12 hours too. With number two I was on here two hours before he was born asking if I should just take a paracetamol and go back to bed! Was planning a home birth so no worry about getting to hospital...

If I were you I'd arrange childcare and phone the maternity unit. The contractions stayed short throughout my second labour so duration isn't always a sign of effectiveness IYSWIM.

Good luck and stay focused.

time to go

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 17/02/2010 21:34

definitely time to go. My contractions didn't get any closer together than 4-5 mins until I was 8cm, DS arrived very soon after!

Good luck!!

allaboutme · 17/02/2010 21:41

go go go
my first was 12 hrs
my 2nd cx started at every 3 mins and I posted on here just before I left for hospital. I was fully dilated and ready to push soon as I got there!

alex1803 · 17/02/2010 21:43

How are you getting on?

If you are able to talk through a contraction then it may not be time just yet.

Contractions like what you described above can be 'pre labour', this can stop and start and last, sometimes, days.

Fantastic that you were 3cm already, you will be a good way there when established labour begins.

If I were you I'd organise childcare, and RELAX!!

Good luck!

ibetitsonlyme · 17/02/2010 21:48

God its so hard to know what to do. There was 13 minutes between last contractions.....seem a bit weaker too

Mum and dad are on standby....

liahgen66 · 17/02/2010 21:52

personally I would have a nice bath and try and get some sleep. Do you have a partner with you?

liahgen66 · 17/02/2010 21:53

how comfortable are you? When you have ctx what do you do? Does it make you stop everything and focus or can you talk through it albeit a blt slower?

ibetitsonlyme · 17/02/2010 21:55

DH with me....contractions are managable, don't like to talk through them, deep breathing helps a great deal..

OP posts:
liahgen66 · 17/02/2010 21:57

how far away is hospital?

I know you want to keep things going but if you can relax through them thenI would suggest you try and sleep.

Lilybunny · 17/02/2010 22:09

Have you called your maternity unit for advice? We like to have a chat so we can Suss things out before you arrive. Yes we know that some people are glad they ignored us, but we speak to literally hundereds of women a year and we do get it right most of the time!

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 17/02/2010 22:16

how are you doing?

Lilybunny · 17/02/2010 22:26

Hope that things are going well since you've not made it back to us. Good luck!

snottymcgrotty · 17/02/2010 22:29
