What do your lady bits look like after vaginal birth?

Is it just ME or is anyone else a bit shocked by the appearance of their bits after giving birth vaginally?

I mean all I seem to see is the internal muscles - I'm sure there used to be more external skin there.

Should I just stop looking?!

(I'm not using my normal nickname on this thread, no chance!)

No you are right!

And I probably wouldn't have noticed for about 18 months afterwards, when it was next called into service.

am baffled - it never even entered my head to look - why?

morningpaper · 25/05/2005 20:51

Surely why NOT is the question? If you had major surgery on your back would you honestly never bother to check it in a mirror?! That would seem extraordinary wouldn't it?

JoolsToo · 25/05/2005 20:53

having a baby isn't major surgery though is it? - its completely normal - I didn't really expect it to be any different than before (maybe a bit stretched )

morningpaper · 25/05/2005 20:55

Ah well it probably looks like an inside-out pig down there. Grab a mirror!

HellKat · 25/05/2005 20:59

HA HA HA HA
Am in fits at the name of this thread and your name kebab!
Mine looked like the black hole of Calcutta! All gaping errghhh. Luckily all went back to normal though.

JoolsToo · 25/05/2005 21:00

oh don't get me wrong - I've certainly had a look (in my youth) but not following any of my births - I was otherwise too occupied - as I say - it never entered my head!

morningpaper · 25/05/2005 21:00

Well aren't you starting to WONDER?

I bet you reach for the mirror in the next week or so ...

debs26 · 25/05/2005 21:01

it was the tampon they used whilst stitching me up after ds2 that upset me most - was roughly the size of a small sheep

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2005 21:08

Can I just, ahem, clarify, that I didn't exactly SEAL UP, I mean I wasn't a born again virgin or anything

morningpaper · 25/05/2005 21:09

I know www but it sounds so DREADFUL I have to keep using the phrase.

tooembarassingbyfar · 25/05/2005 21:14

sorry morningpaper, it wasnt that awful for me, could have been lots worse if i hadnt noticed. the funniest thing was that when my midwife got back to hospital and told other midwives, the head of dept said to tell me to make sure i kept separating my labia so it didnt happen again! like i needed telling! hahahaha

deegward · 25/05/2005 21:15

Oooh this so reminded me of something I wish they had mentioend in ante natal classes, before ds1. Certainly everything was v swollen, and after ds2 I used some homeopathic lotion to reduce it quicker. I think now 2 years later everything is back to normal. Did have a good giggle when I first read this.

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2005 21:16

I really have to stop posting on this thread, ewww, the memories aint nice!

spub · 25/05/2005 21:17

ROFL.
This thread should be compulsory reading under the bit entitled ,"stuff that you really don't want to know but probably should...."
I'm wondering about the superhero potential for a webbed fanny - a bit "man from Atlantis" meets "stretch Armstrong"...

marthamoo · 25/05/2005 21:22

Ouch, ouch and once more ouch (and I haven't dared look at any of the links - I just ate).

I had lots and lots of stitches after ds1 - he came out with his arm over his head, Superman stylee - and it was a long time before I plucked up courage to feel, let alone look.

Jools, you must get acquainted with your bits - go to one of those classes where woman all sit round with mirrors and have mass orgasms

spagblog · 25/05/2005 21:23

I had an episiotomy both times and I think that it saved my bits from being knackered.
They look the same as before, thank god. However the rest of my body is stretched and scarred beyond belief!

morningpaper · 25/05/2005 21:23

Oh yes we all go to THOSE classes every Thursday!

Prufrock · 25/05/2005 21:32

You see - just another benefit of c-sections

KBear · 25/05/2005 21:34

Gobbledigook · 25/05/2005 21:38

PMSL at this thread!!

ChaCha · 26/05/2005 14:21

Oh my gosh!!!! There should really be a warning on here somewhere for first timers..Ohhhhh! I do have a friend though that used some kind of oil/lotion/cream down there prior to the birth to help the baby come out easier i guess and not to cause too much damage. Did anyone use such stuff?
Gosh - how scary!
