I'm having my 3rd c-section next month and am being sterlised after!! Drs orders and my choice too!!!
Has anyone had this or anyone know of people who have had this done after section??? How much longer did it take??? was it done under spinal-or epidural???

I'm seeing consultant next week and wondered if there were any questions I need to ask, that I may have not considered???

Thanks xx

I have had 3 cs and asked the consultant on the table to tell me that I couldn't have any more as it would be too dangerous, she laughed and said I had at least another CS and possibly 2 to go if I wanted I suppose it depends entirely on the person and how much scarring they have experienced.

My dh had the snip about 30 seconds after dc3 came along. Sterilisation is a big step but if you know it's right for you then go for it. Good luck.

I am puzzled at the bit about them letting you know how well the sterilisation has gone? How can they tell?

When I had this option to consider we were messed about constantly, told one day they don't do it as so many women regret it and get upset in the post natal period (ie 3 days post natal when the hospital have to deal with your feelings!) and also the swollen tubes question which other people have mentioned, then 10 mins before the C-section asked whether I wanted it done - DH was getting changed so I couldn't discuss it with him and had to say no.

I was not told that they would be able to remove the tubes completely. Maybe if they had suggested that I would have gone for it.

As there is no way of knowing whether a female sterilisation has worked (as there is with vasectomy) DH went and had the snip.

Even so I worry, DH's test result said "no sperm seen," but what if it was a man looking?

I am glad we made that decision. When DS2 was 5 months old I met a lady my age (older) with a nine year gap between her youngest two DCs. She had been sterilised, and for nine years all had been fine, and then . . .

The consultant who delivered my 2nd baby (2nd section) had had 4 sections her self.

I always thought you weren't allowed to be sterilised at the same time as a section, but obviously it must be a lot more 'at the discretion of the surgeon' than I thought.

I would love one more baby (so one more section, I guess), but I think 3 would be my very limit, personally. Ho hum. DH is adamant that we stop at two, so that may well be that

Balloonsayer My MW said they can tell you what state the tubes are and can tell whether its going to sucussful but I have wondered how I will feel after- but know that 3's the limit!! so will do some serious thinking with DH but if he gets the snip- thats equally as final as me getting done. x

I am slightly worried about the 'postnatal' hormones - if I've been sterilized will I feel very emotional about it all post birth. A few months down the line I'd probably be more rational!

Altho' it's either me or DH - so both equally as 'final'

In some ways I like the fact that it's final - no worries about contraception and can all move on as a family. Having loved the baby stage I am know looking forward to having slightly older children and doing family stuff together etc...
