...did you have natural births (non intervention rather than no drugs) with subsequent babies?

Bit of a niche question I know, but thanks in advance.

Yes. DS was 9 7, forceps delivery. DD was 9 10, no intervention.

Evenstar · 24/04/2009 21:42

DS1 forceps, 9lb 13oz, DD ventouse on operating table with shoulder dystocia (almost emergency CS) 10lb 11oz, DS2 emergency CS for failure to progress after failed induction at 38 weeks 9lb 3oz.

chequersmate · 24/04/2009 21:43

Thank you, both

Well I'll be able to tell you in four months....

MrsMattie · 25/04/2009 19:35

Not me, but best friend. Had forceps and ventouse with massive episiotomy for first baby, 9 lbs 3 oz (after very long, arduous labour). Second baby arrived in 5 hours from first contraction, no intervention, tiny tear, 10 lbs 9 oz! I had a 10 lb-er by c-section so I was in awe of her.

thisisyesterday · 25/04/2009 19:37

yes
I had a 9lb 1oz baby first time, and needed ventouse delivery and got a 2nd degree tear.

second baby was born at home with no pain relief (he was 9lb 5, back to back and had a giant head too! lol)

I feel very strongly that the need for the ventouse delivery first time round was largely due to the fact I had an epidural and was stuck on my back unable to feel a thing.
for ds2 I was moving around and gave birth kneeling up which helped soooooooo much

MavisGrind · 25/04/2009 19:50

Ds1 9lbs 2oz, with episiotomy. Ds2 9lbs 13oz, 2nd degree tear. Shed load of morphine the first time, only one dose of morphine the second (which didn't work) so I'm just claiming gas and air!

lljkk · 25/04/2009 19:54

Happened to a friend. 2nd baby was only 8 lb8oz, she gave birth standing up 20 min. after walking into hosptl (no stitches needed).

Chaotica · 25/04/2009 20:00

Nope.

But I was prepared to try. (There were problems second time which meant that we couldn't wait for labour to start naturally and induction didn't do it, so I'll never know.)

Chaotica · 25/04/2009 20:01

BTW - have to say that I opted for an emergency CS rather than carrying on with a likely-as-not very risky induction.

weaselm4 · 25/04/2009 20:04

Hi, DS (now 3) was 9lb 5oz and delivered with an apidural, episiotomy and ventouse (also his head was on the 98th centile ).

DD (now 10 weeks) was 8lb 8oz and soooo much easier - just tore slightly after a VERY quick second stage (3 mins!). Just gas and air.

Hope that helps. Definitely can be done!

weaselm4 · 25/04/2009 20:06

BTW, totally agree with thisisyesterday - I had no hope of pushing DS out flat on my back with an epidural. Spent most of my labour with DD standing or kneeling up and I'm sure gravity played a huge part.

curiouscat · 25/04/2009 20:10

My 3 babies were all overdue and I was induced by drip. Avoided episiotomies, and other interventions, all were well over 9lb natural deliveries in hospital. Some stitching needed for No.1 which was more painful than the delivery as the pethedine had run out. For no. 2 I had an experienced midwife who avoided any tears. Good luck!

pottycock · 25/04/2009 20:11

haven't had a second one yet so will be watching this with trepidation.....dd 9lb3, forceps with large epi. yowch.

TheProvincialLady · 25/04/2009 20:23

DS1 was just under 9lbs with ventouse, epidural, episiotomy.

DS2 born at home, 7lb 9oz in water with no pain relief and a small tear

Every birth and baby is different, have faith in yourself

ConnorTraceptive · 25/04/2009 20:31

DS1 (10 pounds) induction, epidural, ventouse, foreceps, episiotomy

DS (11 pounds) natural start for labour, no epidural, shoulder dystocia but no forceps, episiotomy or ventouse. Did tear a bit though

My first baby was 10 4 and I had an episiotomy and pethedine. My other 2 babies were totally intervention-free (and just as huge).

1973magpie · 25/04/2009 20:43

DD1 9lb 1oz at home until transfer 1hr before birth, then forceps, episiotomy, long (8.5hrs) painful labour (posterior position) gas and air, local anaesthetic.

DD2 8lb 2.5hr natural labour at home, tens, pool & gas and air, very tiny graze (4min 2nd stage!)

DS1 8lb 5oz again at home long 1st stage (no pain though) , tens, pool, gas and air, had ARM DS born 1 hr later (6 min 2nd stage) no tears grazes etc!

Shame I'm not having any more, I'm getting good at this

ManicMother7777 · 25/04/2009 20:45

My first was just under 10lbs and had episiotomy & ventouse. With ds2 they reckoned he would be bigger so i was quite keen on a cs, but they persuaded me it would be OK, and i had a fast a furious VB, less than 2 hours in total, no drugs, no intervention, he just flew out, no stitches...(but he was only 8lbs!)

doulalc · 25/04/2009 22:16

Had episiotomy with the first...last three were bigger, the third by over 2 pounds, but no interventions needed/no tears.
Biggest factors can often be the positions you use for first and second stage.

chequersmate · 26/04/2009 12:46

Wow, thanks for these responses, very positive

dd - 9lbs 9 oz, 18 days late, induced, back to back, ventouse and shoulder dystocia - big episiotomy right into bum cheek....ds 9lbs 4 oz - 3cms to delivered in one hour no tears or stiches - utterly convinced that position of both me (delivered ds on all fours) and the baby (not back to back) the critical thing rather than the size of the baby.
