Yes!!!! I have never come across anyone else who was sick after the birth! I was sick twice after DS1 (all over the fetal heart print out... and the floor..!).. and after DD, 6 years later, I was sick pretty much constantly for the first two hours of her life. It was awful but nobody was really bothered.. and they wouldn't give me a jab 'because I was planning to breast feed'.

I remember heaving and heaving (when there was nothing left to throw up!) and feeling like my insides were going to fall out.. despite it having been a natural birth. I bleed more than normal after giving birth.. and I'm sure the puking didn't help.

Nobody said it could have been the jab to the expel the placenta causing it! I thought it was the gas and air which I used to a bit before going onto an epidural.

I avoided entonox with my last birth (DS2).. had it written all over my notes.. and I wasn't sick afterwards.. although I felt a bit sick.

Nobody ever said anything about this being 'normal' (although there weren't bothered!). It's 'good' to see that it is perhaps quite normal-ish after all!

So glad I haven't got to do that birth thing anymore....

Badger, I also don't "do" puking, as some of you may know, so I didn't throw up (or feel sick) for any of my four pgs or labours or births, although I did have a drug to expel the placenta (and it still took ages to come, and, in one case, had to be gently persuaded physically to come out.)

I am just posting to say I thought the shivering post birth thing was to do with suddenly losing your inner hot water bottle, ie the baby, and, I would have also thought it had something to do with no longer expending all that energy pushing. Am I wrong? Is it all drug induced?

Hi Lonelymum,

Yep, apparantly all drug induced. I find it quite shocking that we are not told. I was just told I had to have it to deliver the placenta with baby no.1. The shaking was awful. It was only with baby no2 where i didnt have it that my midwives told me the side effects. Apparantly it can shoot your blood pressure high too!
