There is a scary post on here at the moment about stitches and pelvic floor...

Just wonderign if anyone didnt need any stitches first time around. And if not what do you attribute it to?

Frame/hips/shoe size/weight/ perenial massage???

3 babies and no stitches, I didn't do anything prelabour.

However, I'm tall (5'11) with size 8 feet and despite their size (9lb 2, 8lb 13 and 9lb 10) they all had small heads. I was pretty active during the birth, DS1 and 2 were delivered when I was on hands and knees on the bed. I was laying on my back with DD, but as she was the third I think I'm a bit like the blackwall Tunnel by now.

Despite the lack of stitches though, I'm now waiting to have corrective surgery for a double prolapse because of their weight and the speed of the 2nd (pushing) stage of labour (DS2 and DD are recorded as having a second stage of 0 minutes ) So I'll be getting stitches eventually anyway......

I had sitches, but it was only due to having a forceps, and i havent suffered with any sort of pelvic problems lol.
Hoping i dont need stitches this time around lol

Tinker · 15/04/2005 19:19

None for me (wait and see about second). Don't attribute it to anything and she had a 98 centile head!

3 babies, no stitches. I just made sure I panted when told to!

littlerach · 15/04/2005 19:33

No stitches either time, DD2 was quite average size - 7lbs 12, had slight tear but no stitches.
Think this is partly down to really listening to MW and my own body, plus luck!!!

I am a shoe size 4!

katylou25 · 15/04/2005 19:34

9lb 9oz baby boy - no stitches, grazes or nothing - midwife couldn't believe it and checked 4 times! Just did what midwife said regarding pushing etc no massage beforehand or anything. Oh am 5'5" and size 6 feet

littlerach · 15/04/2005 19:34

And I am almost 5'2!
And was a size 10.

motherinferior · 15/04/2005 19:39

Also, stitches are not the end of the world. They really aren't.

NomDePlume · 15/04/2005 19:46

I didn't. I had a small tear which healed naturally....

FYI

med to slim frame/medium hips/shoe size 5/pre-birth 8st 7lbs (5ft 7ins)/Yes, but only in very late stages of pregnancy (last few days)

NomDePlume · 15/04/2005 19:48

Baby was 7lb 1oz and I had a very quick 1st delivery of dead on 3 hours from start to finish. The mw was surprised that I'd got away with such a minor tear, as fast and furious labours tend not to give the perineum time to stretch and relax enough.

lou33 · 15/04/2005 19:53

3 hours? Pah!

Punnet · 15/04/2005 20:09

3 babies no stitches. Don't know why, lucky I guess, but grateful!

Slight tear with number three. Number three- would you credit it? Typical me, all in the wrong order again.

No-one in my family had stitches, despite 2X pre-eclamptic inductions (me and my sister), and one large baby (other siser)- 5 kids between us. Maybe you should ask any sisters if they have kids? lol. That would be a great conversation opener!

Frizbe · 15/04/2005 20:12

No stitches here, I put it down to the old olive oil being massaged in for 3 weeks before hand, and listening to the midwife and not pushing when she said not to?

lunarx · 15/04/2005 20:21

none needed here, no tears either.

Flossam · 15/04/2005 20:27

i apperently wouldn't have needed any. I was active during my pregnancy, worked 12 hr days up untill 35 weeks as a nurse, moved house at 36 weeks. Didn't do the perineal massage (oops! never quite got round to it!) I gave birth on all fours (looking out over big ben). No the reason I needed stitches was the fact that my DS decided to make his entrance into the world ever so politely - waving!!

popsycal · 15/04/2005 20:30

ndp-had speedy deliveries with both mine....ds1 under 4 hours, ds2 sbout 35 mins
no tear
