POLL - are you a screamer, a moo-er or eerily silent during labour?

From the "lying down to be examined" thread - there seem to be a few of us who begged to be examined because the midwives didn't believe that we were in labour. It happened to me, and I was completely silent during contractions, so I assume that it is more normal to be vocal. Is it? No judgement call about whether any method is "better" by the way - I'm in the "whatever gets you through" camp.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

British stiff upper lip "Ouch!" ..and a quick cough.

Dh may remember it slightly differently.

During dd 1 and 2's births, I screamed, mooed and passed out (so was eerily silent!), so I guess I do all 3!

I think I was fairly quiet moving onto muttering to self moving on to mooing and roaring. With dd3 I was in the room next to a screamer - it took her about three hours of screaming to have the baby and dh and I found it hilarious. I think they put us there because it was our third baby - a first time mum would have been terrified. Even thorugh the wall we could hear her getting hoarser and hoarser but she kept plugging away

I always imagined before having children that I would be a screamer as I am a complete wuss when it comes to pain, but I moaned when having contractions in both of my labours, I always describe the sound as being primal.

I'm a moo-er.
Even during the birth, I knew the noises I was making sounded bizare.

TreeTrunkThighs · 23/01/2009 21:33

Eerily silent both times. DH asked if I wanted to swear. I tried, it didn't help.

LoveBeingAMummy · 25/01/2009 17:48

No idea really was enjoying the G&A so much I can't remember!

PuzzleRocks · 25/01/2009 17:53

Fairly silent until transition. Then i'm a growler with the odd expletive thrown in.

sort of moaned and groaned and squeezed DP's paws til they practially bled. , well, do you blame me?

digitalgirl · 25/01/2009 18:34

I hollered through my contractions, but through the G&A mouthpiece which DH said made me sound like a Dalek.

Pushing: I had to be silent to ensure I was directing all my energy into pushing but I think I made 'hnhnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggh' noises.
