Does anyone have a good remedy for erm, labial grazes?

Because I got one when DS2 was born 2 days ago and it is agony I also have a tiny 2nd degree tear but that isn't bothering me much. I leak a bit of wee onto the graze when I cough, and have to wee in the bath if at all because the pain is worse than giving birth. Saw the out of hours doctor today and he suggested vaseline as a barrier, which did nothing, and vagisil cream which helps a tiny bit.

Is there anything else I can try? It's keeping me awake, as if DS2 needed any help!

oh god it's the weeing. i had this with ds2 (big coincidence eh) and it was worse than any of the three births. had to resort to weeing in the bath, when i got braver i did it in the shower
I got bathed in the savlon stuff in the blue bottle - is it wound wash or something - i'll google it for you and get a link. the other thing to remember is - yes agony (and you have my sympathy +++) but it will be gone by 10 days.
i really do feel for you.

salt sitz baths - I had one, this helped. warm water rather than hot. You could try Calendula cream as well - I used that too.

Buy some Arnica from Boots or other chemist. they are like little sweet things(really tiny)and help to heal from the inside. I found them very good. Also soak in the bath with a few drops of pure essential lavender oil.

Congratulations! by the way!

janeite · 21/12/2008 00:15

Lavender oil in the bath water.

janeite · 21/12/2008 00:16

Congratulations. Sudocreme might help too.

TheProvincialLady · 21/12/2008 00:36

Thanks so much, I will try them all. I haven't any of it in the house tonight except sudocrem and salt, which I will have a go at asap. 10 days.....don't suppose there's a special hypnobirthing tecnique for breathing through the pain?!

Ouch! Brings back painful memories! I too would swear by a few drops of lavender oil and tea tree oil in the bath. EarthMamaAngelBaby also do a fab spritz which you can find this online I think but not great timing with the Christmas post!

MumHadEnoughTinsel · 21/12/2008 00:52

Pour some nice warm water over your bits while you are weeing, that'll stop the stinging! And make sure you pat dry, not wipe.

You poor soul, I hope you recover quickly!

icantdoit · 21/12/2008 01:00

savlon link and try comfrey

chloemegjess · 21/12/2008 01:54

Yes get some Arnica tablets, the strong ones (ask somebody in say holland and barrit).

Also, put some distilled with hassle (can get from sainsburys etc) on your maternity pad. Stinks but helps.

I know it is agony

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 21/12/2008 10:52

Distilled what cmj? intrigued!

littlelamb · 21/12/2008 10:57

Yep, efinately Arnica. I used it with bith dc and I really think it made a difference to how fast I healed- with ds I really didn't feel I'd given birth at all, but I still remember all too well the fear of having a wee after dd was born! I wouldn't do the vaseline though tbh. Can you get a bruise thingy for children (the name escapes me now but we have one shaped liek a Mr Man for dd- you put it in the freezer and basically use it like a soothing pad) and put it in your pants?

Drink loads it dilutes it so the wee dosen't sting as much iyswim ?

Congratulations.

bronze · 21/12/2008 11:36

I'm guessing distilled witch hazel. Its what I used

Dominique07 · 21/12/2008 11:38

Sorry if it's not much help,
but yes the bath was my remedy too for 6 days or so.

Guests or not, i'd just say "sorry, i'm going to have to run myself a bath now..!"
You can't be crossing your legs and not weeing/or stinging yourself.

Plus, remember to pat said area dry!

whoingodsnameami · 21/12/2008 11:41

sea salt, pour a pile in your bath (it does'nt all dissolve) and sit on it, it does'nt sting like table salt would, and it bloody works.

Yes sorry it was meant to say distilled witch hazel! Sorry I was very tired when I posted! Just pour some onto your pad though not directly on you. And do this each time you change it.

God I am not looking forward to this again!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/12/2008 14:51

I had one with dd1 and used a feme pad ( about £10 ) from boots you put it in the freezer and it " cool and soothes" the area ( a pack comes with 2 to sawp over and guaze sleeves to llow for discharge).

Didn't need it for dd2 but for the graze it gave me so much relief!!!!

chloemegjess · 21/12/2008 16:05

That thing from boots sounds really good. I will have to do that if I am in pain again this time!

SleighGirl · 21/12/2008 16:07

it's hideous isn't it, mine took 2 weeks to stop hurting when I wee'd - that's 12 years ago and I still remember it being excrutiating.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/12/2008 16:29

Chloe it doesn't help totally with he wee but does make sitting a much more comfortable experience well worth the money imho!!!

EarthwormFrittataBugEnchilada · 21/12/2008 16:44

Germolene (the ointment rather than the cream if you can get it) it has local anaesthetic and it really does help. Will help with the sting when you wee.

Yep - femme pad too was ACE. Really cooled and soothed.

Poledra · 21/12/2008 17:05

Second the lavendar and tea tree oils in the bath - I did this with infected stitches after DD2 and it was a godsend. My mw also suggested using the hairdryer to dry your bits after a bath/shower so you didn't aggravate the tender parts - I feel a little silly doing it but preferred it to toweldrying.
