So I'm booked in to be induced wed 40+18 by mw dates 40+12 by mine. Was really hoping for a hb but had show a wk ago and contractions on and off since that dont go anywhere. Resigned to being induced any positive stories to cheer me up?

Should add, mws done 2 sweeps, im 2-3cms dilated and cervix is soft and short just doesnt seem to be able to get going. This is dd2, dd1 was only 4 days late.

YES! By Wed you might have a new person living with you! It's ages till Wedensday.

Have LOADS of sex.
[Realise this isn't a positive induction story as such but the sex will help induction process too]

luvlydECMOrations · 13/12/2008 11:57

I had 2 homebirths at 40+13 and 40+14 so you never know, do some skipping or plan a lovely meal in, babys bound to come then!

BrightShinySun · 13/12/2008 12:08

Oh thats good ECM theres still hope! And yep will be trying more sex tonight, I know its a few days away just trying to gear myself up for it so I'm not too disappointed when it happens!

its a bit old now. but that was me being induced with dd3.

moopymoo · 13/12/2008 12:12

i had a good induction experience, well it took a while to get going , nothing uuntil they broke my waters but then was great. I refused to have a line put in - they wanted to put one in incase it was needed and this really helped me be more active and keep moving. ds2 was born 3 hours after waters broken, no further interventon at all. Bit of g&a whilst they broke waters then nothing else. very best of luck..

Thank you for your stories misdee and moopymoo you both seemed to remain totally in control and thats my main worry I think. I know you cant plan everything but just to feel the decisions are mine I think will make it ok.

Ha ha ruby, thats fine with me I'd rather it was the babys decision than the doctors!

I was induced with DD2 - 40+14
It took two lots of gel and I was a bit uncomfortable but no more than with any of the prodding you suffer during pregnancy.

I wouldn't say labour was any more painful than DD1 - it took about 6 hours and a bit of g & a before she arrived at 10 1/2 lbs.

Hope all goes well and baby does come on her own - I think for me the anticipation of going in was the worst. I didn't sleep at all the night before but I shouldnt have worried.

treedelivery · 13/12/2008 13:41

Big pisser with IOL is that the clock starts ticking so much sooner. I mean, with a spontaneous you have no idea until you make the decision to go into hospital or be seen at home. And I know I went through DAYS of niggles and pains until that point.

IOL mimicks the natural process and so is designed to take hours and hours, but it's just that we are so aware of each hour, and in hospital bored senseless. So I'd plan for that time if I were you - ipods, audio books on ipods, books, puzzels, laptop to mumsnet and let us know how it's going.....

Got to be better than being hit by a full labour with no run in though. Dear God wouldn't fancy that! I needed time for endorphins etc to build!

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 13/12/2008 13:46

Don't give u yet- was booked in for indeuction on wdnesday after a sweep on Monday

baby arrived Monday at 12.35 am, cancelling both.

Had the contractions etc as well- they're a good sign. Lots of walking / bouncing on ball etc. Good Luck!

Oh and also

DS1 botn by induction. Really wasn't that bad at all, nt as high in pain levels as ds3 who was textbook 3 ish hour delivery.

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 13/12/2008 13:48

'Got to be better than being hit by a full labour with no run in though. Dear God wouldn't fancy that! I needed time for endorphins etc to build!'- ah yes ds4 LOL. On the up side though it's so quick you don't have time to register anything much (35 minute from call to MW to delivery)

treedelivery · 13/12/2008 14:03

Hells Bells! I sort of enjoyed the at home prep, showering and checking bag and emergency toe nail paint.

35 mins. Bonkers! my dh would freak.

DaisyMooSteiner · 13/12/2008 14:09

Don't give up on your homebirth yet, you're not even considered overdue at the moment. My ds3 was born (at home) at 40+12.

With a cervix like yours I would be very surprised if you don't go into labour before Wednesday and if not, then it shouldn't be too difficult to get labour going anyway.

Good luck!

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 13/12/2008 14:12

bright shiny i had to shelve my hb when dd2 didn't arrive and was booked in for induction!
Had had sweep soft cervix etc and had contractions but not strong enough.
Was put on monitor at hospital showing contractions then they did one lot of gel and they cam pretty much straight away just needed that extra kick!
DD2 born naturally 6 hours later!

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 13/12/2008 14:13

dh loved it- was a complete non event! doula and mw just mae it, they were gone an hour after: ds's met the baby, went back to bed, we all did and the next morning was almost normal

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 13/12/2008 14:13

I was 40+13

treedelivery · 13/12/2008 14:27

I need to be more like you Peachy!! You must have the work ethic of some kind of shire horse!! Not to mention the most positive state of mind ever.

I'd be roaming around house declaring myself a princess and looking for attention and sympathy!!

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 13/12/2008 14:31

No princessy ness here LOL, but I do a damned good martyr Syndrome (OK I am an attention seeker and know thre Legend of The Mum Who DId A Schoolrun The Day She Gave Birth will be remembered for ever )

That and it was ds3's first day of FT school and I wated to be there. Timing or what?!?

BrightShinySun · 13/12/2008 22:12

Thanks for all your replies, blimey Peachy 35mins is mad but I think I'd take that right now over being induced! Ceezy thats what I think is the worst bit, the anticipation! And Lily I'm hoping if I have to do it thats all I'll need-a little nudge!

OP posts:
LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 13/12/2008 22:15

'nudge' worked for me and believe me i tried everything , had a birth pool by my bed for weeks for before!
Get yourself into a different mindset you can still have a controlled birth with you in control even if you need an extra 'kick' start!!
Good luck either way can't believe i am 12 mths on !

BrightShinySun · 13/12/2008 22:25

Thanks Lily thats all I'm really trying to do I think, I've spent 9mo getting ready for a hb I just need to prepare in my head for a different situation!

OP posts:
LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 13/12/2008 22:34

Hope you get the birth you want and i believe you can adapt your initial thoughts!
If it helps any dd is a very high maintenance baby so it seems natural that she needed a kickstart to bring her into the world
And now i wouldn't have it any other way!
