I can echo wallace, Very fast labour and delivery and no 3 was also my biggest but i had him at home and the other 2 in hospital and i think that helped.

Thanks for replies. My second baby was posterior but when I went into labour she turned herself around in the first stage. So it actually turned out fine.

bump

much faster for my third. a lot of the work done in the last week or so of BH I think.
M/w said it would either be an 'awkward' birth or easy peasey, she said in her experience there generally was not much middle ground .

1st birth 22 hours, hospital highly medicalised, traumatic
2nd birth was a HWB, sweep in the morning and a 4 hour labour with an OP baby
3rd birth 2.5 hours from first pain to birth, also a HWB
4th due in 8 weeks, currently OP, planning another HWB and seriously hoping it doesn't come any faster than the last one

1st:5.5 hours, induced, used diamorphine, gas and air, small tear....painful, but not a bad experience. 7lb6 4 days over due date

2nd:18 minutes, induced, no time for any pain relief, small tear....very painful, terrible after pains.... 7lb 1 10 days over due date

3rd: Planned homebirth, 4 hours, gas and air for 20 mins at the end, painful, but not as bad as the others, small tear, amazing birth......8lb 10 9 days over due date, very very bad after pains while breastfeeding, so bad I had to switch to formula.

1st...a struggle

2nd...a breeze

3rd.....breech

LynetteScavo · 14/12/2008 20:44

I already told you Electra, on another thread my 3rd was the easiest.

1st - 36 hour labour (6 of those pushing) complete hell then epidural and vontouse delivery.

2nd Induced - very fast -only a couple of hours, but hideous pain.

3rd - at home - it only occured to me to phone the midwife 2 hours before DD was born. It was all very calm and easy, and I didn't even need G&A.

JodieO · 14/12/2008 20:51

All 3 of mine were fast (under 3 hours) but last was the fastest and more intense, it was also more paiful by far. My last was posterior which may explain the more painful part but I had no pain relief with any of them other than gas and air and with my last only about 15 mins I think, while the doctor was trying to get a clip on his head, 5 attempts and they gave up.

ilovelovemydog · 14/12/2008 20:53

what is diamorphine? Like pethadine?

Poledra · 14/12/2008 20:54

DD1 - em c-section after 14 hours' labour

DD2 - epidural, forceps, second degree tear and PPH, but still better than DD1

DD3 - induced at 40+1 as she was at risk of HDN. Fantastic birth of epidural plus drip (couldn't use gel because of previous section) followed by 29 minutes pushing and catching my own babe. Sounds very medicalised but was actually quite hands-off - I heart my midwife

Ohforfoxsake · 14/12/2008 20:59

Its a myth that 3rd births are the worst.

DC3 was fine. Start to finish in 6 hours, all very managable. All got progressively bigger, she was 9 pound-ish.

DC4 was a doddle

Good luck.

1st labour - a breeze (wondered what people make all the fuss about!)
2nd labour - a total nightmare (5 mins away from em c/s followed by a haemmorage)
3rd labour - ask me in May but I'm worried!

A lot of my friends have reported 'tricky' 3rd labours.
But that seems to be being disproved on here.

Best of luck, hope you have an easy-peasy lovely one this time!

honeybunmum · 16/12/2008 13:14

I was also told that 3rd baby labours/births should not be decided on your experiences with 1 and 2, they are a law unto themselves. I had a very fast, intense but not painful labour which was much easier than the first two. ( they weren't bad) Asking my friends, the answers seem to be mixed, with some people having longer and more painful labours than previously. I think if you are healthy and have a normal pregnancy, you will probably find the labour and delivery easier as you will not be as scared. PANIC=PAIN.

ElectraInExcelsis · 16/12/2008 16:09

Yes, actually one problem I have is I tend not to give in to the pain which, of course makes it harder! Thanks again for replies.
