Hi Electra - gearing up for your third birth or to get pg for the third time?
I am interested to know responses, as I am about 1-3 weeks away from my third birth and had very tough time 1st time, and a much better time 2nd time.

Have heard some m/ws etc say that third babies often "do what they want" in labour and that third births can be tricky - but no idea if this is just nonsense.

ElectraInExcelsis · 12/12/2008 19:23

uh - yes I had heard the same I'm 22 weeks pg with number 3.

My 2nd birth was the trickiest. My third birth was the 'easiest' - about 7 hours labour, he was out in three pushes. I did have a lot of blood loss afterwards (more then 1 litre), so that wasn't so good.

piscesmoon · 12/12/2008 19:35

Much quicker.

thisisyesterday · 12/12/2008 19:37

oooh i am interested in this too! expecting number 3 in JUne. horrid first labour, beautiful second... what will 3rd be like???

wilbur · 12/12/2008 19:38

Fab compared to the others (and emergency c-s and VBAC in hosp with no midwife until 2nd stage) as I was at home in water and it all went like clockwork. Took about three hours from first twinge to baby. Still blimming hurt though.

ooh, good question - am having thrid next year and think I am more scared than first or second times....hoping s/he falls out when am on the loo or something

Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 20:02

ruby your third was back to back, but still faster? My baby is currently back to back and I am a bit worried it will slow things down/cause problems. I do know though that there is more room for them to turn when its 2nd/3rd time etc.

scorpio1 · 12/12/2008 20:03

much quicker. Bigger baby, so baby sort of helped herself out too iyswim.

belgo · 12/12/2008 20:03

dinny - I was also more scared giving birth the third time. The first time I wasn't scared because I just didn't know what to expect. The second time I assumed it would be easier but it wasn't. The third time I was just terrified, and was pleasantly surprised.

thisisyesterday · 12/12/2008 20:06

turniphead, my second was back to back and much faster than my first. first was 18 hours start to finish, pulled out by ventouse.
second was 6 hours, think I had 1hr 20 mins of pushing, so longer than they expected I think, but that was cos he was back to back.
but the actual labour was sooooooooo much better than my first.

dinny · 12/12/2008 20:07

oh, Belgo, I hope I am the same!

I have posted about this a lot on hear so won't bore with the details but I had a v straightforward and fast labour first time, even better second until delivery when had shoulder dystocia

so am terrified this time round!

also wonder if am somehow "due" a hard time as I never tore or had drugs with my first two - argh

tassisssss · 12/12/2008 20:10

more simialr than different on the whole

big difference was dc1 popped out without me pushing, dc2 maybe one or 2 pushes and out she popped, dc3 I pushed for about 40 mins and the thought of it still brings tears to my eyes...felt like one long, continuous contraction with no let up (and lots and lots of gas and air)

Wallace · 12/12/2008 20:17

First two were long.

Third was amazing

Gas and air in birthing pool. Born 90 minutes after got to hospital. Just sort of popped out

Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 20:19

We are liking Wallace's third birth

dinny · 12/12/2008 20:19

yes, I'll order one of those, Wallce

scorpio1 · 12/12/2008 20:20

it was as painful as my first.

my second labour and birth were a breeze by comparison.

my third went to 40+1 and i had a sweep because my bp was a bit borderline.

it kicked things off and things were painful from the get go, just like with my first.

he was also my biggest baby, too, weighing 9lbs., 5oz. compared to 7lbs., 1oz for my first and 6lbs., 9oz for my second.

had a diamorphine, epidural and ventouse delivery with second degree tear.

osborne · 12/12/2008 20:41

first 48 hrs and fairly grim

2nd 4 hrs from first twinge to end, scary though

third, 12 hrs of widely spaced, calm contractions. not quite pleasant but by far the best

cravingchocolate · 12/12/2008 20:55

DD3 born on Monday very slow build up over 2 weeks (with a few false alarms)- contractions started slowly in morning and never hurt that much - waters broken when I was 6cm and was holding her 30 minutes later.

Very intense but easier and quicker than number 1 and even quicker and easier than dd2 - which was a very relaxed water birth. Biggest baby as well at 8lb 6oz and no stitches, just gas and air for final 30 mins.

thisisyesterday · 12/12/2008 20:58

congrats CC!!!

Wallace · 13/12/2008 07:44

Was lovely, I wish my first two had been like that.

Third was also my biggest baby
