I have read about folk eating the placenta after the birth - did anyone actually do it?
I tasted my breast milk!

Talking of breast milk, I was tempted to make DH a cup of tea using mine, how about giving a try all you active breastfeeders - who is game for it??????

As I mentioned on another thread - my dh ate some of my placenta. He fried it up and had it in a sandwich with some bacon. He said it tasted like a cross between a fine steak and liver and was very nice. I refused to try it. We still have the placenta 10 months later and plan to bury it under a tree on dds first birthday.
I have also tasted my breastmilk - very sweet.

Forest - did you have a homebirth or a hospital birth? What did the midwifes say when you said you wnated to keep your placenta? Where are you keeping it (in the freezer?)?

I had a hospital birth. The midwives all thought it was a fantastic idea and were really keen to hear what dh thought of it. They kept it in one of their fridges until I went home. Dh had to sign a consent form for us to take the placenta home. And yes it is now stored in the freezer.

I think Nigella would have to cook it in Coca Cola.

I have tried breastmilk (I'm sure there can't be many b/feeding mothers who haven't wondered what it tasted like and tried a drop, I'm not talking milkshakes or anything). As for the placenta both times I did want to see it and DH swears that I did look at it but I have no memory at all and was quite happy for the hospital to dispose of it in the normal way.

concorde alas I seem to have lost the ability to express as that would be a laugh. I do have half an ounce in the freezer mind you, early morning cup of tea DH?

Mental note to self : don't go round to Forest's house for shepherd's pie in case she gets the wrong pack out of the freezer...

Mind you, you could always donate it to The Yurt.
