This will be my second, I had a possible leak of hind waters yesterday, but when I was examined my cervix was closed. Then in the evening, I had a show. First thing this morning I had a couple of mild crampy contractions (well, 5 or 6), but as soon as I came downstairs and started dealing with DD1 they stopped (). I'm 38 weeks pregnant and 3/5 engaged (although I realise that the engagement isn't such a big deal second time around).

So any takers out there? How long do you think I have? Please don't say 4 weeks, I'm not sure that I could stand it!

(and before any of the MWs and doulas out there ask, yes, I am resting )

3 weeks and 5 days

largeginandtonic · 01/10/2008 13:26

40 minutes, do you have the school run covered?

MrsTittleMouse · 01/10/2008 13:27

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD is too young for the school run, but I have childcare covered until Friday afternoon - after that I have two emergency contacts who can take DD if there is a big rush, and family to drive over and take over from them (realistically family will take 3 hours to get here, hence friends for emergency cover too).

I'm gutted that the cramping stopped, but very glad that I sent DH to work today. He admits that he would have driven me nuts running around "getting things done before the baby is here".

Do you know if it is a girl or a boy?

How lovely a new baby. Funny how we almost wish the pain no ourselves, bonkers behaviour really.

MrsTittleMouse · 01/10/2008 13:39

It's another little girl. It's funny, we didn't have any opinions about what we wanted until we saw the ultrasound scan, and then it just seemed right that she was a girl, if you see what I mean. And it makes us feel very rebellious when DH's family take him to one side and ask him if he's "OK" about another girl (rather than a boy "for him"), or when work collegues assume that we'll have another to "go for the boy".

I was thinking this morning in the shower how I used to try to will my body to have my first ever period, and then what a nightmare of cramping and PMT it was when it finally arrived. This feels just like that.

I am having a girl too, am used to it now but quite like little boys.

Crazy to want the pain, we must be mad!

Good luck, will watch out for your announcement, hopefully not in 3 weeks and 5 days

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 01/10/2008 13:48

OOOOOOOOOh that sounds like me so I will say 7 hours. Good luck.

And I was 38 weeks too, and it was my second, and it was a girl.

Are you me? [confused emoticon]

nicewarmslippers · 01/10/2008 14:38

I am 38 + 5 and haven't had any signs so am quiet jealous really. Keen for it all to kick off. 1st day at home today and glad I didn't take longer off as would have gone mad

lulumama · 01/10/2008 14:40

Thank you for all the good wishes.
Saturday sounds about right, as the childcare issue will be much more of a pain then.
7 hours sounds wonderful...

Tomorrow and sundown.

lauraloola · 01/10/2008 22:03

I reckon you will have the baby by Friday lunch time. Good luck x

lauraloola · 01/10/2008 22:06

Did they not tell you about induction? When my waters started leaking I was booked in 3 days later just incase because of the infection risk. Dd was born the day after they started leaking!

MrsTittleMouse · 02/10/2008 10:37

I'm being monitored for infection risk, and they never actually confirmed that I had a SROM, so luckily I'm not booked for an induction, at least yet.
I've had some crampy contractions now, so hopefully things will kick off in ernest today...

Things seem to have slowed down. Being around DD or being fussed by DH doesn't seem to help. So I have booted them both out.
What do I do to speed things up again? Sex is out of the question just in case my waters have gone. The midwife suggested walking up the stairs sideways, but I don't think that my pelvis will cope with that.

Sunday - so she'll be bonny, blithe, good and gay.

Good luck.

Go for a long walk and have a nice hot (not too hot) bath.

MrsTittleMouse · 02/10/2008 14:32

I'm just fed up with feeling like the proverbial watched pot! My Dad was daft enough to use the term "false alarm" this afternoon and I (probably quite abruptly ) told him that while we were using that term to keep all the excitement down, that it was not actually a false alarm because my body was getting on with it, just not as quickly as everyone else would like.

I've just had a nap, and it hasn't improved my mood any. If I have to go through with this (and I think that it's fair to say that I don't have much choice ) then I just want to get it over and done with. I had such a slow burn of a labour with DD1 and I was hoping to not have to go through it again.
