Show and backache?

How big is a show normally? This is DC2 but last time I didn't see the show as it dropped down the toilet and when I looked down it had gone too far for me to see, I only felt it IYSWIM. I've just had a big lump of snot (about the size of a 2p but fatter), is this it?

I've also had quite a lot of backache in the last hour. The baby is back to back which it wasn't first time round.

Could this be the start?

sounds like the start to me. that's exactly what i had (4 months now, time flies!!) had big show in am when went to the loo then back ache all day and period like cramps, by evening was getting start of contractions! good luck, keep us posted . oh get the tens on the back, it works wonders!

belgo · 29/09/2008 17:14

It could be the start, but the same thing happened to me two weeks before I actually gave birth!

Hopefully you won't have to wait that long though.

Lib76 · 29/09/2008 17:15

oh by the way my DS was back to back too! tens was pretty good along with hot pack. i spent most of labour on birthing ball as kept pressure off my back

belgo · 29/09/2008 17:17

yes my dd2 was back to back - I recommend going on your hands and knees during the labour and using a birthing pool which helps with your mobility - the water takes away some of the pressure.

purpleflower · 29/09/2008 17:17

Unfortunately I don't have a tens.

I hope it is the start as I am 40+3 and desperate to get this baby out.

I am getting some cramps in my stomach too but the backache is almost constant. Last time it was all in my stomach and I could feel them building up but it's hard to tell with the constant backache.

i was 40+10! so hopefully junior is ready to come out! what kinda birth you going for?

belgo · 29/09/2008 17:20

let's hope it starts soon then for you!

purpleflower · 29/09/2008 17:20

I'm not having a waterbirth either. I am having a homebirth and do have a ball that is a little flat so I need to find the pump. I did want a waterbirth but DP didn't like the thought of it, we comprimised, if I had a hosp birth then it would be water but a homebirth is dry land only lol.

MIL has some of those microwavable wheatbags, is that what you mean for a hot pack as I could get one later.

I hope your dh is good at back massage, that helped me more then the water in fact. You can also use your own bath or shower during the labour.

belgo · 29/09/2008 17:23

you can use the ball to lean against and rock your hips backforwards and forwards, while kneeling on the floor, I think that's good for the position of the baby.

purpleflower · 29/09/2008 17:25

I really am unprepared for this! I just phoned DP to come home as I know it will take him at least an hour and a half.

The midwives have asked that I try and have the baby downstairs and the bathroom is upstairs so that rules bath out too

I'll ask DP to massage my back, last time he sat in the corner of the hospital room watching a film on his laptop as I laboured. He was very hands on as I gave birth though.

yeh anything that puts a bit of heat on your back and lots of hard back rubs and bounce on the ball! i found all these things helped me with a back to back labour!

belgo · 29/09/2008 17:29

purpleflower - i know the feeling! I'm due next week, amd despite having done it twice before, I don't feel prepared at all for this one- terrified in fact! I'm also planning a home birth, in a pool.

purpleflower · 29/09/2008 17:35

I would've loved to have a waterbirth but I thought the homebirth was the best comprimise out of the 2 as I hated being in hospital for DS.

I really thought that I was prepared but now it looks iminent I'm not so sure!

I hope your's all goes well, were your other 2 homebirths?

If you have a big tesco nearby, you should be able to hire a tens from their pharmacy for about 25 quid for 4 weeks. Just need a clubcard.. maybe a friend could get one for you.

I hope this is it for you.. good luck

Thank you. To be honest at the moment I really havent even got £25 to hire one. Bloody car failed it's MOT last week and took all our spare, why does it always happen at the wrong time

I'm going to get DS's stuff ready in a little bit a walk him round to PIL it's a 15 minute walk there. I'll get a pump to sort the ball while I'm there.

Thank you for the advice

My second was a home water birth, at 41 weeks so i'm not expecting this one to be early.

liahgen · 29/09/2008 17:54

purpleflower,

just a thought..If you want to have a bath, or labour upstairs, please feel free to do so.

When the mw's say, try to labour downstairs, it's only a suggestion, this is your labour, and they are guests in your home.

Am not anti mw btw, just be better if you are comfortable and if you ideally wanted a waterbirth, the bath might be a good 2nd bet.

hope all goes well, keep us posted.

Some nipple stim, clarysage bath or some lavender.

Get lots rest at this stage, eat, drink plenty, maybe try to sleep.

Thanks for that, thats what I thought but I'm not very confident about standing up to people. I did think what would happen if I lived in a first floor flat, would they not let me have a homebirth?

Just grabbed some over night stuff for DS and will take him to PIL soon. Then I can relax and get some rest without having to worry about him. I'd also rather take him now than at midnight. He's a light sleeper so likely to wake up.

good idea,

chances are you'll labour more naturally once you are confident that childcare is in place, no emotional baggage.

Good luck.

(sorry short hijack)

Starlight are you a Doula too?

(hijack over)
