What noises did you make in labour?

I have been to the labour ward a few times lately, and have heard women screaming. Out of control, and in alot of pain, by the sound of it.

What noises did you make during labour?

I tend to moo once the baby is out for some reason!

I managed to get a third of the way though the last HP whilst in labour - took me about 6 weeks to get chance to finish the rest of it once DS was here though

PictureThis · 18/07/2008 21:38

waaghhh (in a low mooing type fashion)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/07/2008 21:40

Nothing with Dd, with DS, this uncontrollable, visceral moo-ing, growling type noise.

The mw kept asking if I was pushing.

Bronze · 18/07/2008 21:41

Not much until that last crowning moment when I think it was sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

theyoungvisiter · 18/07/2008 21:43

none - the midwife kept saying "you are allowed to make a noise you know" in a worried tone.

I did bark terse instructions to DP occasionally but didn't find "vocalising" helpful in managing the pain - just seemed like a waste of breath!

scoobi6 · 18/07/2008 21:46

puuuuke puke puke puke

then

snore.... once the epidural was in I had a kip!

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 18/07/2008 21:50

I dont recall shouting (dh doesnt remember me shouting either) but I was very verbally abusive...just generally. I believe I told the Midwife and the attending doctor to get 'this fucking thing out of me!'

clayre · 18/07/2008 21:50

the first time i was screaming like a banshee, didnt quite realise that the baby was coming NOW, thought i still had another 8 hours of pain to go.

second time i kept telling the midwife the baby was coming out and she kept telling me to calm down and get my clothes and they would give me a check in a minute, they got a shock when they checked, i wouldnt have made a sound if she had listened to me in the first place!

findtheriver · 18/07/2008 21:51

Unearthly braying like a demented donkey according to DH. I remember hearing weird noises and not realising they were coming from me. And when the baby's head was crowning, I just screamed 'Oh fuuuuuuuuck it huuuuuuuuurts'

a grinding noise.

It was very weird, lots of breathing and then this grrrrrrrrrrreeeerrrrr.

Then I started to sing- the M thought that was brilliant. It was the kind of singing you do after you've been on the helium balloons.

foxymolly · 18/07/2008 21:54

ROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I wanted to bear down but was being pushed to theatre. I did feel sorry for all the women who were in early stages of labour and had to witness me going past roaring my head off

berolina · 18/07/2008 21:55

very little with ds1 (epidural)

screaming and obsessive repeating of words and phrases with ds2 (nasty, brutish and short transition-to-birth phase, no pain relief)
I remember pausing for a split-second before screaming, thinking 'I can actually get through without this scream', and then 'oh, fk it - AAAAAAARGH'. It helped. I suppose it must sound horrid to someone outside the situation, though.

ButterflyMcQueen · 18/07/2008 21:57

normally quiet ish
moo a bit

this time had syntocin drip and epidural wore off at transition

i did a bit of angry shouting at mw ' it BLOODY HURTS' and long low moaning

foxymolly · 18/07/2008 22:00

Butterfky - A friend told me syntocin drip makes the contractions hurt more is this true?
I had a drip as well but have no idea as it was my first so have nothing to compare it to

tazmosis · 18/07/2008 22:22

I moo'd - apparently!

ButterflyMcQueen · 18/07/2008 22:27

well they told me if i had syntocin they advised epidural ( and this is what i did) they did not say that it hurt more but that there was no slow build up just straight into pain

foxymolly · 19/07/2008 00:23

That must be what my friend meant. Thanks buterfly

Flllight · 19/07/2008 00:29

No, I screamed. I really did. It bloody hurt. It was very fast though.
Screaming didn't just 'happen' though, I was just, well it was like I had to do something, and it seemed the only thing really.

I have never, ever known how to scream but I did it just to try and help with the pain. It didn't do much tbh.

cantseemyfeet · 19/07/2008 03:04

I cant remember what noise I made with DS1 AND ds2. But remember going into labour room with Ds3 and, although I was just in throws of agony to come, I could hear woman MOOing in next room and, I remember saying to Mum (who was BP) Oh God, she is Mooing, that will be me soon. My mum laughed and thought I was just being hysterical untill 2 hours later, clutching a G and A pipe, I was moooooing like a cow having sextruplets! I was never aware of that deep, animal sounding moan you make when you are pushing baby down, until DS3. I think if they recorded it, it would put a lot of teenagers off having babies early. It isnt a sound I would want to hear nor a sound I would want to make again but I bet the Midwives have a good giggle later on.

sushistar · 19/07/2008 03:11

ohh, this thrread has so put me off having more babies. I grooooaned into the gas and air pipe. I remember pleading with the doctor attaching the ventouse to ds 'please don't, you're hurting me, please no....'

Evenstar · 19/07/2008 05:40

Screamed so loudly when DS1 was pulled out with forceps that I hurt my throat, with DD screamed solidly for over 2 hours as I was stuck at 9cm and not allowed to push, delivered in theatre by ventouse as last attempt before Caesarean. She was 10lbs 11oz . I made so much noise with DD that the midwife from the next room asked mine to give me more pethidine as it was distressing her patient ,

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 19/07/2008 09:51

these are cracking me up...lol seriously

alibag · 19/07/2008 10:04

I did caveman grunts and wails... to my surprise I only went 'ow that hurts' when DS2 was crowning (DS1 epidural etc so very different!) Next time I watched Finding Nemo and the tank fish did the initiation of Nemo with the ring of fire (ahem!) the chanting and wailing reminded me of my labour!
