I'm searching the archives but not having much luck. I know there are sites out there -ideally want something where I can just press a button that times everything for me while I ignore the whole thing .

Cheers

not being funny, but why can't you just scribble it down on a bit of paper, that's what I did.

BlueDragonfly · 26/05/2008 21:36

google contraction timer. loads come up and you can find one that suits you.

have to say that i have never timed mine !

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 21:37

Paper no good - I am doing this covertly so DH doesn't notice (or he'll panic)!

MrsTittleMouse · 26/05/2008 21:39

Oh, I just used DH. "Now!" and then he'd write it down. In the early stages I just wrote it down myself. I actually found one of the pieces of paper this week, and boy does it make depressing reading! Contractions getting closer and closer and closer together.... and then back to 20 minutes apart. In fact, I don't think we even bothered timing them for most of the time, as it was so useless. It was obvious when they were serious enough to phone the hospital, and we stayed at home for another 4 hours after that anyway.

PregnantPenguin · 26/05/2008 21:39

Someone posted this one a while back and I added it to my PC favourites. I haven't looked at it yet (head still in the sand!), so can't say how good/bad it is:

MrsTittleMouse · 26/05/2008 21:40

Ah I see. My point about it being bloody depressing in the early stages still stands though. Could you use Mumsnet? We love a good labour thread.

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 21:42

I've got to time them this time as I have to get to the hospital ASAP as soon as I know it is for real .

3rd labour, all back to back, gave up with the timing last two times too but I have to show willing

Pregnantpenguin - that one looks good, better than the one I have been using so far I think. I'll do a 'test run' of it for you .

Thankfully DH watching Graham Hill docu on TV so not likely to notice my squirms . No point in starting a labour thread on here, I'm notoriously stop and start with these things .

PinkTulips · 26/05/2008 21:51

good idea on the covert timing, my dp is a panicer too and it definitely makes everything far too tense.

this one gets used a fair bit i think

PregnantPenguin · 26/05/2008 21:56

Please come back to this thread and let us know how you get on - I'll add it to my 'threads I'm watching'! Good luck.

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:03

So far very regular
frequency 3mins 50 secs,
duration 1.05mins

I'm being induced on Wednesday which would be far more convenient than right now!

OP posts:
PregnantPenguin · 26/05/2008 22:05

Wow - Hope the Graham Hill docu finishes quickly...! Or are you having a home birth?

YouNeverKnow · 26/05/2008 22:06

ooooooh i love a good labour thread

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:09

No home birth for me. The cord is around his neck twice and the hospital is over an hour away.

Graham Hill Docu finished, new one on land speed record started . We have no childcare and DD2 has croup so not sure they'll be too pleased if we turn up with her at the labour ward.

OP posts:
YouNeverKnow · 26/05/2008 22:11

oh bugger how they doing now?

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:12

Well, that site you linked to Penguin seems very good, easy to use which makes it good for ignoring the whole thing. When are you due?

OP posts:
BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:14

Youneverknow - exactly the same 4 mins apart 1 min duration, I have very long labours usually 32 and 16 hours established on the past so don't hold your breath .

OP posts:
PregnantPenguin · 26/05/2008 22:30

Your history suggests 8 hours this time BBM! Fingers crossed that it's a quick and easy one for you (not too quick tho, with the hosp an hour away). What was your due date?

Oh dear re: DD2. You're very calm and collected, so I'm sure it'll all come together.

I'm due on 12th June and a first timer so not expecting this one to come early or quickly.

I don't want to go to bed now! If I wake in the middle of the night (as I usually do), I'll pop down and see if you've gone in yet...will be around for another 30ms or so now tho

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:41

My due date (which was very accurate IMO) was 18th May - I was charting at the time.

I'm calm and collected right now which makes me wonder if this is it although I'm not expecting it to be an immediate thing I'm just trying to ignore as much as possible. My Step mum is doing our child care - she is 3 hours away, trying to think if I should phone her now or not .

I have told DH now.

Not long for you to go then. Yours might be early and / or quick - you never know, back to back usually means things are a bit long winded though but they do take pity on you and offer pain relief quite easily IME - hope you have a nice smooth one though.

pregnabrain · 26/05/2008 22:47

Just popping in to wish you GOOD LUCK if this is it, bbm.

Am totally and utterly jealous.

Twinklemegan · 26/05/2008 22:47

Did I read the OP correctly? IME, if you're compus mentus enough to use a contraction timer website then you've hours and hours to go. By the time you can't think straight enough to even operate the computer, then you're well on the way and off to hospital you go. No?

Twinklemegan · 26/05/2008 22:48

Oh God, sorry - didn't realise you're in labour right now! Good luck!

PregnantPenguin · 26/05/2008 22:50

Hey it's your third time, you're allowed to be calm. Might be worth ringing your Stepmum now, then she can be ready and perhaps come over now to sleep at yours rather than waking her up in a few hours time.

How's your DH? Perhaps he was watching the Graham Hill and land speed docs as preperation in case he needs to drive to the hospital really fast!

This LO is still back to back - and my skirting boards are cleaner than they have ever been. But still time for him to move...and I like that you say pain relief is offered easily. Just written my birth plan and am very open to the idea of avoiding pain as much as possible!

BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:55

No need for apologies Twinklemegan - I totally agree with you. When you are in labour there is absolutely no doubt about it (esp for me coz I'm a wimp) I am just needing to go in early this time and hospital is a while away so I thought I'd do some timing to see what is happening.

According to the timing website I am in labour...accroding to me the jury is very much out and I am pretty sceptical about the whole thing. All these are probably just getting him in the right position IMO (just so he can wriggle out of it again tomorrow).

If he's a good boy and does as he's told he'll stay put for a while! Pregnabrain - I don't think you need to get jealous yet!

OP posts:
BigBadMouse · 26/05/2008 22:58

penguin don't worry too much about the back to back thing. Take it from me I am a total wimp and if I can cope anyone can .

Still 4 mins apart and just over 1 min long....think he's trying to trick me.
