what do your scars look like? Mine is still a bit lumpy and raised, a bit like there's a thin tube under the skin the length of the scar. It's also pretty red (not infected or anything, had cs 8 months ago, was planned cs for breech pres). Is this normal? What does your scar look like? How long til it fades a bit more?

3 c-sections later - last one about 15 months ago - just a line.

Youcannotbeserious · 24/05/2008 10:14

I had mine a week ago and it's already not much more than a hairline. I think one factor is if you had stitches or a dissolvable suture and another appears to be related to whether it's planned. It obviously will be related to how your skin heals and the surgeon.

Would def recommend the biooil - I used it daily thru pregnancy and am still using it. Def helps with stretch marks.

TaIcy · 24/05/2008 10:53

Mine is wonky, bumpy, with a nice bit of ruching, with overhang at one end.

It was 8 years old last tuesday.
...i didn't realise it was such a mess until reading this.

MehgaLegs · 24/05/2008 10:57

Mine will be three years old at the end of June and it is almost invisible. It is hidden in my pubes anyway but the bit I can see is a very fine white line. It is slightly lopsided but I am pretty impressed with it really.

VictorianSqualor · 24/05/2008 11:03

I've had three, my first was a vertical incision though, which goes from under my bellybutton down to my pubic bone, nice!

My other tow though I had a normal pubic hairline cut, it was just a line not long after DS1, now DS2 is 6weeks old and again it's just a line, bright purple though, it had gone white before this last section.

learningallthetime · 24/05/2008 11:08

Am I the only person who has a phobia about touching their scar?

I really can't touch it - it freaks me out!

learningallthetime · 24/05/2008 11:16

Guess its just me then!

TuttiFrutti · 24/05/2008 11:43

Blimey, reading this thread makes me think I have been very lucky!

I've had 2 along the same scar, last one 15 months ago, and it's an almost invisible white line within my pubic hair. Totally flat, no bumps or ridges or anything.

The surgeon on my first cs said he wanted to make sure I could wear a bikini again. Sadly, my bikini-wearing days are well and truly over, but nothing to do with my cs scar, just wobbly tummy!

Highlander · 24/05/2008 14:41

mine is flat white as well. No probs at all. Was a bit numb and itchy for about 3 months after DS2, but only if I poked at it.

Funny, Tutti, my surgeon made a big deal about bikini wearing as well. I had to point that he was very kind, but I was nearly 40, not 20!

asur · 24/05/2008 19:28

Learningallthetime - you're not alone, I can't stand mine and hate touching it. DH thinks it's nice to touch and I can't stand him going near it!

Can't do a direct link but if you go to www.caesarean.org.uk/ there is a link on the left hand side for photos - gives an idea of how different all scars can be...

harpsichordcarrier · 24/05/2008 19:41

five years on, you can't see mine at all really, but it feels a bit strange (hard but not lumpy)
I don't like to touch it though, it makes me feel a bit queasy tbh

harpsichordcarrier · 24/05/2008 19:43

oh and I do have a little overhang but tbh could do with losing a little weight

VictorianSqualor · 24/05/2008 19:51

lol, harpsi, you're breaking the biggest CS lady rule!!
It's the scar that gives us the tum!

learningallthetime · 24/05/2008 20:00

Asur - I can't even bear to look at the link you posted, I'm so freaked out by it!

I wonder if I would feel the same if it was a different scar or if it was from a different operation?

Funny, I've never been squeamish before but the thought of touching it sends shivers down my spine.

SheherazadetheGoat · 24/05/2008 20:02

glad i am not the only one who hates touching theirs. thought i was being abit freaky. i can hardly see mine but feels weirdy and numb. 4 years old!

blueshoes · 24/05/2008 20:17

headfairy, it is the luck of the draw as to how you heal and also the skill of the surgeon. I have seen pictures of cs scars that are just slivery lines that are barely there.

I was not happy with the way my scar from my emergency cs looked. It was brutal - under GA and dd was whipped out in 11 minutes from the time the decision was made to do a cs.

When I went for my elective, I asked the surgeon to cut away the scar tissue and stitch it back better to heal better. She took her time stitching and it did heal better . Not the silvery line, but much better.

learningallthetime · 24/05/2008 21:15

I had an emergency. Every nurse who looked at it after said what a good job it was - I wouldn't know though, I'm not looking at it or touching it!

posieparker · 24/05/2008 21:18

My first scar was like a red elastic band accross my skin, the second time it was similar, third time nearly invisible 20 months on. Maybe fourth will be good too, November here I come!

posieparker · 24/05/2008 21:19

Learning.... I couldn't look at mine for months let alone touch it!!

learningallthetime · 24/05/2008 21:21

Posie - why do you think we're like that?

Do you think if it was a differnet opperation we'd feel differently?

posieparker · 24/05/2008 21:25

No it's the thought, for me, that someone has broken my body, opened it and I feel a little invaded... shhh I'd never tell the VBACs!!
Now my scar is a reminder and a story for my dcs of how they came out..... it's my silver lining!!!

learningallthetime · 24/05/2008 21:37

I like that - silver lining

I know exactly what you mean about being broken, I don't feel invaded but I am scared of it for some strange reason, maybe that it's not secure and will burst or break.. i don't know, I sound crazy!

Def no VBAC for me

swampster · 24/05/2008 21:47

I had a laparoscopy when TTC and ended up with a TINY cross scar in belly button and TINY puncture scar below. And a diagnosis of fibroids, polycystic ovaries, unexplained sub-fertility... Used to lie in the bath and look at the scars and BAWL my eyes out.

Shortly after DS1 was born by emergency CS I caught myself lying in the bath, looking at the CS scar and grinning my head off - it looked like a big smile across my belly.

So yes, learningallthetime, I certainly felt differently about my different operations - but not quite the way you meant. I love my scar.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/05/2008 22:32

Headfairy - mine is quite like that - and it swelled up in several places in my current pregnancy and bled. Turned out to be infected hair follicles. I had a bit of a sort out with a pair or tweezers (think bald chicken look) and it seems (touch wood) to be settling down quite a lot.

Also had some flucozan antibiotic ointment from the docs where it was red and swollen - that helped too.

cali · 24/05/2008 22:37

For 2nd cs, they went through scar from emcs, 9 months on and scar is pale pink when I get to see it. Really could do with a mummy tuck
