my lady is 41 wks, in labour as we speak and not making fab progress as far as she thinks.

called 6am this morn, saying had been niggling all night, went from 20 mins to 10 mins, now at 7 mins, Brill, me thinks, text book.

Kept in contact throughout day, her calling me, she's had bath, paracetamol, doing lots moving, . Bath stalled it a bit, went down to 10 mins, 12 mins,
She is now using her tens, it was on 4 this morning, is now on no. 6. Says cx are painful, and can't talk through them. Took tens off for a while to see if it made a difference, lasted one cx!! Yes it is making a difference, she says.

Her husband is there with her, and her young son will be there from 6pm, as will be the person looking after him.

She is feeling like she needs loo constantly but not weeing much, lots pressure.

Have suggested snuggling up with hubby, holding hands during cx and looking silently (him not neccesarily her) into his eyes during cx, as he is asking lots questions during cx, as to how he can help. Though this would kind of reinforce her need to be silent during them, as she as told me she would like.

We are in phone contact, I am half hour away at most. On our last conversation at 3 she said, I want some gas and air. I said, don't leave it till you are desperate to get further pain relief if you think you need some.

Now what, have said call whenever, obviously. Last labour was a stop start 3 day affair with failed epidural. Sooo doesn't want the same again.

Any advice oh wise ones.

Yes head over! I am so of you.

I am not trying for #7 anymore, changed my mind. DH is away for 9 months next year and the baby would be due when he is away. I am on hold for a while.

Beau is 1 in 2 weeks!

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 14/05/2008 16:56

yes tis me lulu.
from my exp. when a miserable old midwife told me there was no way i could use the pool again second time, i began to panic and felt i was losing control, that's all. I thought maybe trying to hold her off if she really wants it may result in a similar reaction?

Deffo. needs the small one removed if his presence is not allowing her to do what feels natural. bless him!

liahgen · 14/05/2008 16:58

right i'm off.

see you tomorrow with the birth story,

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/05/2008 08:00

Is there any news yet?

liahgen · 15/05/2008 08:33

morning ladies.

Baby girl arrived safely 7.06pm!! 7lb 13ozs....

Get to m's house 6.10pm, to find her laughing and joking with friend in bedroom, has the ctx timer on laptop, friend is working it. Looks flushed but euphoric.

Ctx are all over the place time wise, history that i can see is 7mins, 4 mins, 3 mins, 2 mins, 6 mins, etc, very strong and lasting up to a min regularly. During ctx, M is being quite guttural and last one a bit pushy, so i suggest calling hosp.
Call hosp,M says she wants some g&a so we get ready to leave.

In between ctx, you wouldn't know M was in labour. I on the other hand am thinking baby is gonna arrive in the car at this point. Try to hurry everyone along, without causing undue alarm.

Get in car, M says she keeps wetting herself, I suggest waters have broken, M didn't think so.

T, bless him, makes wrong turn out of their street, (they really do only live about 5 streets away from hosp!!) this is really funny, M is laughing.
Now back on track. M hanging onto open sunroof, shouts, it's burning, i'm pushing. No, breathe lonnnngggg, i coach.

Entrance to hosp, M thinks she's pood, (sorry, tmi)Am thinking, great, baby is in birth canal, I know if M stands up for long, this child is gonna be born in the car park.
I give specific instructions for them not to get out of car, and sprint into entrance looking for a wheelchair. one chained up, i ask security guard if i can have it, he thinks about it, [haVEN'T GOT TIME TO STAND ABOUT THINKING EMOTICON!!!]

I dunno, he says it's for the old people. I tell him, (firmly), my very pregnany lady is sitting in her car, pushing, I need the chair.

Gets chair.[smug]

Get M into chair, I am 5ft 5, and M is a big lady, and about to give birth. T takes car to park, I push as fast as i can, round a hospital i have never visited before, to delivery.

Get into room, amid much bumping into doorways, with unmanouverable bloody chair that does not have swivel wheels!!!! This is slightly farcial at this point.

Manage to get M out of chair, but she doesn't make it onto bed, is leaning over bed on the floor,m yelling for pain relief, 1st mw trying to manouver (sp) under her legs to see what is what, manage to get trousers off, 2nd mw suddenly realises and offers M g&a, almost gets her arm ripped off as M grabs mouthpiece. I am leaning across bed, trying to keep M calm, and reasurring her that she is about to meet her baby, and WHERE THE BLOODY HELL IS t!!!!!(the latter to self)

T walks into room, just in time to see baby L breathed into the world with a couple of wiffs of g&a.

FANTASTIC

What a result, they had a really traumatic time with no.1 , and so wanted natural birth with little intervention, well, safely say, they achieved that. lol

Waters had indeed, gone earlier, and took a bit of time to get some membranes left behind, mw were very hands off though, no rush, no pressure to have synto and vit, K. Baby was so calm, and peaceful. She has a little tongue tie, but my last client had this too so am up to date. Fed beautifully on both sides,Mum was up and bathed and i was home by midnight.

I am sooo pleased for them, lovely couple.

Thanks for your halp ladies, don't you just love a happy ending.

incidentally, 2nd mw, when introduced to me as the doula, said, "that's nice" some people are funny aren't they?

Have a good day everyone. x

Awwwww good stuff all round

Well done you!!! Oh and mum I suppose!!

Didn't she do well?!

vbacqueen1 · 15/05/2008 10:52

aww that's brilliant! Sometimes you just KNOW it's going to happen quickly don't you? Thank God you went over when you did as it sounds like she'd never have left for the hospital! She can have the next one at home

Pidge · 15/05/2008 11:10

What a fabulous fabulous story (shouldn't be reading this, as am at work, but spotted this thread yesterday and can't resist a good birth story!!!).

sob - how lovely

(nervous emotion) very well recounted liahgen but after that are you sure you still want to go for no 6?

quint · 15/05/2008 17:56

Thats fab - I've never really read one of the labour posts before, will make sure I do in future - brought back so many happy memories (though of course at the time I wasn;t happy!).

liahgen · 15/05/2008 18:01

absolutely butterfly. Since training to become a doula, i have realised just how much difference could have been made to my own experiences. Obviously that is not the only reason we are ttc no. 6

Incidentally dh will not be attending next birth, by our mutual choice, so just mumsnet and my doula then.
We have just done an article for next months Practical Parenting about fathers at the birth, and dh hopes he's not gonna get slated for not attending.

OP posts:
ButterflyMcQueen · 15/05/2008 18:08

dh does annoy me quite a lot at the birth

at the borth the mw said to me during transition' tell me what you want' and i said 'tell dp to stop talking to me'

but i would be nervous without him

dreading this tbh......

ButterflyMcQueen · 15/05/2008 18:09

?

'at the birth of dc 4' that should read!

liahgen · 15/05/2008 18:09

are you expecting now butterfly?

OP posts:
ButterflyMcQueen · 15/05/2008 18:17

yes dc6!

ShowOfHands · 15/05/2008 18:19

I'm welling up. How lovely. Sounds like a very healing experience after a previous traumatic delivery.

LG&T's my doula at the next one (succesful homebirth I hope).

Almost makes me want to have another sooner rather than later. Almost. Not quite.
