I've been so emotional for 2 days constantly crying!! Upset because I won't be pregnant anymore, it's been such a journey,
Emotional that after 4 years ttc we're finally at the point of making it and getting our baby
Anxious about the surgery and recovery itself - I'm litterally imagining the tools they'll use on me and lying there bleeding out or the spinal failing and needing a general anaesthetic, DH going home and being clueless with a new baby to look after wahhh!!

Bless you. The day before is so stressful. I was in a flap too. It won't go wrong and you will both be fine.

Someone on here once said that you need to remember that between everyone in that room they will have done hundreds and hundreds of c-sections. Most of them probably have their own children too so you and your baby will be in very safe hands.

Take it very easy when you recover. There's no prize if you make it to the park the next week or the supermarket a week after that. Keep cosy at home in pj's for a few days at least while it heals.

Thankyou🥰

I bought myself a couple of new cosy pjs and put some fresh bedding on ready for when we're home🤞🏽

Just speaking from how I felt- this will be a breeze compared to the heartache and pain of ttc for that long !! You will be so looked after during and after your c section !! You'll be too busy with your precious little baby to miss being pregnant, good luck tomorrow, do you know what you're having ? Xx

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 25/02/2025 19:50

Aw op it is scary but as soon as you hold little one, you'll see it was all worth it
Very exciting - do yoy know what you are having?

TwinklyPlumHedgehog · 25/02/2025 19:50

I had my first c-section this year and was also quite nervous beforehand! I found it helpful to watch a couple of NHS videos that talk you through exactly what to expect so nothing was a surprise.

Otherwise, as far as possible, try and focus on the really wonderful thing - you get to meet your baby tomorrow! The baby is born very quickly (like 10 minutes into the operation) so you get to spend the rest of the time cuddling/ staring at them!

Wishing you all the best - you’ve got this!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/02/2025 19:52

awe bless, its such an emotional time. for what its worth, my 'elective' was an enjoyable time. I use 'elective' as it was supposed to be an elective, but my waters broke before my scheduled date so I was spared the night before jitters, and it was termed an emergency one. DS2 was stubbornly breech and big, so I was actually glad I wasn't going to have to push him out tbh.

It was so nice to have the quiet time in recovery, just me, DH and new DS2 in a little baby bubble.

Best of luck, hope it all goes smoothly for you. Oh, and start taking something to make you poop asap. I ended up badly constipated, didn't go for 10 days and when I did it was more distressing than the actual c section. Depending on what pain relief they send you home with, codeine isnt great for that. sorry, probably TMI!

SpiraliserSardinePasta · 25/02/2025 19:55

I have heard that planned elective C-sections are calm and lovely, and you will be so well looked after. How exciting that you will get to meet your long awaited DC tomorrow! I hope all goes well for you 🥰

anonny55 · 25/02/2025 19:59

Thank you all for being so kind!! I know all the nerves will be worth it. We're having a little boy , which is just so lovely - I've dreamt of having a little boy since I was a teenager and my mum had my baby brother..after ttc for so long I didn't care if it would be a boy or girl but it's just the cherry on top that we've got our little boy. I'm in disbelief that tomorrow the ttc heartache is over and he'll be here! I've been so nervous the whole pregnancy that we would never get to this day - and we're nearly here🥲🩵

The doctors and nurses are really good this talking to you and distracting you. The baby will be out before you know it. They will be stitching you up but you will be busy with skin to skin and just taking it all in, that it will fly by.

anonny55 · 25/02/2025 20:04

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee I'm glad you had a good experience! This little chunk was estimated weight of 10lb at my ultrasound last week!🫣🤗so I'm also quite glad to be having a section🤣

I've got myself some movicol and packed some in my hospital bag as midwife said they usually offer lactulose due to cost by movicol is better..should I take one sachet tonight? Sorry tmi but I've had the shits for 2 weeks now like the runs 5x a day!!🤣🫣and worried if I take one before the surgery I'll poop myself before I can stand up and get myself to a toilet 🤣🤣😵‍💫

OP I remember the nerves soooo well. This is the hardest part, the limbo period, the overthinking everything. In my case I was induced, but having been given a date and time to go in it all felt so unnatural and gave me too long to worry. It is such a surreal process anyway and I felt like my brain was struggling to comprehend that my longed for baby was about to become a reality. So I understand totally, but this is what I wish I could go back in time and tell myself….

“Sleep well tonight, and if you can’t sleep, rest and do whatever you need to do to help you relax. Tomorrow is the start of the most amazing, transformative chapter of your life and you are ready for it and so deserving of it. You are about to meet the little person you have been nurturing for the last 9 months, and dreaming about your whole life. You are going to look at them and marvel at every inch of their body, every hair on their head, and be overwhelmed by their absolute perfection. You will feel a pride and sense of wonder that surpasses anything that has gone before. The love might not come instantly, and don’t worry about that - it doesnt for everyone - in fact in the fog of exhaustion and recovery your abiding emotion is likely to be relief and overwhelm. But when it does come it will be so worth the wait, and is a love like no other.

You will be safe, cared for beautifully by experienced obstetrics and theatre staff, and none of the things you worried endlessly about will come to pass. You’ve got this.”

Springadorable · 25/02/2025 20:22

Oh, the best bit about having a baby is not being pregnant any more! (And I'm only partly joking.)

You've got this. The odds are absolutely in your favour that it will be a big standard boring c section. Which is ideal. And you'll soon be home snuggling the baby you wanted so much.

jimbort · 25/02/2025 20:34

I've had a "natural " birth (which ended in forceps), an emergency section and a scheduled section and the scheduled section was by far the best to recover from. All large babies. I think it's a very good option for your circumstances. Congratulations on your long awaited baby, hope you enjoy him. Flowers

ooh, I'd wait in that case, just in case! Boys are great, I know they get a lot of disappointment on here, but I love my 2, as wild as they are!

anonny55 · 25/02/2025 21:11

@Puddlelane123 that's so sweet🥰thank you, hoping for some well needed rest..I've got to be at the hospital for 12.30 and section should be around 2pm if no emergency's so hoping for a nice lay in🤗

@Springadorable I am a little excited to sleep comfortable again and have my body back (in time) but feel like I've been pregnant for years and not feeling the kicks will be strange..I just had a 2hr lie in the bath soaking it all in, he loves the bath he goes wild when I'm in there!😄

@jimbort after so long ttc I must admit hearing how big he may be and any chance of him getting stuck and disaster worried me so much I just wanted the controlled environment of a section to know he'll be okay - no matter how much i may not be okay😅

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee 2 little boys is my dream!🩵

When I was pregnant with my second I was convinced that she was a boy as my morning sickness was exactly the same as my first. I was delighted at the thought of two boys. Took me a bit of time to get my head around the sonographer saying she was a girl! (She's awesome though now she's here!)

35965a · 25/02/2025 21:20

My elective was such a great experience. Eyes on the prize as they say, keep as calm as you can and just think about those newborn snuggles that you won’t be able to get enough of. Just a matter of hours! Best of luck!

AnxiousLurker · 26/02/2025 14:23

My DD was elective section. Such a wonderful experience, bringing life into the world. Thinking of you today, hope all is well OP.

Izzwizzo · 26/02/2025 14:40

Good luck! I'm sure everything will be perfect and in an hour or so you'll be holding your baby! I had 5 years ttc and a c section so can understand the nerves but not long now and you'll be a new family of three. Exciting! Will be thinking of you

You'll be fine!!! I had one 8 months ago, and it was a calm experience. I had a last minute panic and was sobbing before going into theatre thinking I'd bleed out and die. The reception lady calmed me down and gave me a knitted bear 🤣

Baby is out in about 10 mins, so you'll be too busy staring at your beautiful baby to worry about anything else.

Seaside31 · 26/02/2025 14:44

@anonny55 Not long now OP 🩵 As others have said - you and your baby boy are in amazing hands. I’m so excited for you. Enjoy every moment of meeting your little guy 😊
