If you had an induction at 38 weeks..what was your experience?
Was it your first baby?
How many days did it take?
assisted delivery?
Did it end in emergency caesarean?

@zebranotzeebra unfortunately I don't think it's going to be incorrect..I've had regular growth scans since 16 weeks and he's always bouncing between 90th and 98th centile never under this whole time so I doubt he'll drop drastically in the next few weeks😣

If I needed forceps I would refuse and ask for a section so after a whole load of inducing for days and progressing just to probably end in an emcs doesn't seem worth the gamble to me..a lot of people have said they had forceps and chose an elective section for 2nd baby and the section recovery was easier than forceps recovery - I wrote a separate thread about forceps and the recovery. Consultant said I'm high risk of needing forceps as inductions already have higher risk of instrumental assistance, so do first timers and so do big baby's so it's a perfect combination really.

Today I called my midwife and told her I want an elective section after all of my research and she got me an appointment for 2 weeks time to meet with the consultant and book it. So anxious now - it's all getting real!!

@anonny55 good luck!

@anonny55 Good luck! I had two vaginal ventouse deliveries and then my third was the EMCS following induction. Got to be honest, I found c-section a breeze, recovery was quick. I had minimal pain, was up walking around as soon as catheter was out and that really is the key to a good recovery - keep as mobile as possible. Don't be tempted to lounge about in bed or one sofas. Don't overdo it obviously but keep mobile.

First baby.
Waters went at 37+4. So had to go back next day for induction.
got hooked up to the drip, made them give me an epidural first. Drip started at 10am.
Needed to push at 2pm, DD born with no assistance at 2:25pm. So 4.5 hours in total.

@Pamelaaaaarrr me and DP both have fat heads and our DM both had to have us ventoused out! After they said Ds has a 98th centile head I thought no bloody way am I doing that!😅 glad your cs recovery went well! I'm petrified but generally young and fit so hopefully will be back up and running in no time☺️

My 3rd was 99.6th centile for head and tummy. Little chubster! I had to stay in 24 hours after birth because they did blood tests to check blood sugars etc although I suspect with c-section I would have had to stay anyway so just prepared they may do that with a big baby!

@Pamelaaaaarrr probably still be out quicker than I would if I were to get induced anyway!! Average stay for induction in my local hospital is 5 nights!

Mine was 5 days, I was a bit like Rachel in Friends, getting pissed off watching people come and go.

They actually started mine at 6pm and then had to stop it by 11pm as I was hyper-stimulating, so they needed to take out the pessary and give me an injection to stop contractions. Then I had to wait until 12pm the next day to start over again. Pessary has to be in for 24 hours. They checked after 24 hours and said they'd leave it in a bit longer then break my waters...then labour ward was busy so they wouldn't break my waters as they said it wasn't 'safe'. What if I had gone into natural labour?

Anyway, I had a mental breakdown on the ward, they got the head of midwifery to my bedside and I told her induction or not I am leaving this hospital NOW. That sped things up.

But yeah, go for the c-section!

1st full term baby
Induced with pessary at 40 weeks.
Process started 8pm Monday, she was born around midnight on Wednesday, ventouse delivery with episiotomy. No epidural. 9lb 1oz
Very drugged with pethidine, gas and air, remifentinal (sp?), very little memory of the event.
2nd full term baby (2 second trimester losses and delivery in-between)
Balloon induction at 38 weeks, 5pm Thursday. Had the drip for a short time. Delivered 5pm Friday, small tear internally. 8lb baby. Gas and air and pethidine. It was a lovely experience.
The difference between the two was, I feel, that I heavily researched hypnobirthing. I was determined to have minimal interventions for the last baby, despite having induction. Hypnobirthing can still be done even with interventions.
The calmer you are and the more active you are the better the labour.
