HI I think I am finally going to meet our boy in the next 24 hours, I should be really pleased to be experiencing these pains I am having mild contractions every 5 mins or so, the pain isn't too bad yet-I am so scared though with it being baby numebr 3 I just don't know what to do with myself, (So I started to tidy the kitchen!!!) Just took second lot of paracetamol and am anticipating a bath, please advise if you are out there-DFo I ring labour ward yet because it is baby#3, do I ring MIL as she will need to come,do I watch telly iwth TENS? (I am too nervous to sleep at the minute and feel sick with nerves-I know I shoul relax). My worst fear is delivering baby in the car or being stuck in the hospital waiting room in full labour with a load of strangers and worst off not getting the pain relief I would like in time ( I want an epidural due to last 2 bad labours if possible)DD1-18 hours,DD2 8 hours.PLEASE help me decide the next step!(Hospital 20 mins away)MIL 10 mins from ours.........I AM SCARED AND EXCITED AND SICK AND UNCOMFORTABLE etc etc ....

Oh I'm here!

Ledodgy · 01/05/2008 23:53

Ring MIL now so your childcare is sorted then see how it goes.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2008 23:53

if you want an epi, ring the labour unit now.

i'd call MIL so she has time to get comfy and get some sleep.

If you want an epidural I reckon you shuld ring hospital now and speak to them.

LuckySalem · 01/05/2008 23:55

ring midwives tell them you're in labour and they'll advise you. I've heard they'll sometimes keep you on the phone for 2 contractions so they can see if you need to come in.

Also phone MIL and put her on standby - I assume she's watching the other kids.

TENS machine, if its uncomfortable.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2008 23:55

you might be able to relax more once your MIL is there and you know childcare's sorted.

LargeGlassofRed · 01/05/2008 23:55

am here too,
how exciting well you will more than likely quicker than your last.
Why don't you call the hospital and see what they advise.
Could call mil anyway so your covered as better to wake her up now rather than 3am

copingvquietly · 01/05/2008 23:55

good luck xx

sushistar · 01/05/2008 23:56

Call, the hospital, call MIL, get your tuff sorted for hospital, then watch telly with tens til it's time to go. You'll do fine. Chin up!

madamez · 01/05/2008 23:56

I'm awake too! You are not alone. If you have more than one DC, subsequent labours are almost always a bit quicker, so you may not have long to go: ring the labour ward if you are 5mins apart with your 3rd.
Hopefully Lulumama and the other doulas will be along in a little while. Good luck, breathe deeply, sing a song and your boy will be with you before breakfast time.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2008 23:57

hope you're ringing the unit just now.

KristinaM · 02/05/2008 00:01

My worst fear is delivering baby in the car

if your baby comes that fast both he and you will be fine. the only person i know who says she had a virtually pain free labour had her son in teh car

or being stuck in the hospital waiting room in full labour with a load of strangers

if you are that far along you will be admitted straight to the labour suite and wont be near the waiting room

and worst off not getting the pain relief I would like in time ( I want an epidural due to last 2 bad labours if possible)

if you want an epi phone in now

try not to panic, you have doen thsi twice before, you know what you are doing

TeenyTinyTorya · 02/05/2008 00:01

I'm here too, agree with all the others.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2008 00:03

Best of luck, game!

This is exciting!

solo · 02/05/2008 00:03

Is Dh there? get him sorting things for you. Good luck! A May baby, lovely!

gameforalaugh · 02/05/2008 00:30

Dh is here resting I am kind of getting in 'the zone' if you like, thank goodness for this website I knew you lot would be out there!contractions not as regular as earlier but stronger when they come, I have just had paracetamol though so maybe they are just not AS painful.Could I just ask do you think the delivery ward is less likely to let me in if I tell them I want and epi? I know this can be an inconvenience to some wards due to the need for 1:1 care.I was wondering if they are busy then they may try and put me off even more than usual. Thanks for your prompt response it is reassuring. Can I just ask what on earth you are all doing awake so late or are the DC's keeping you all up or do you just not feel as knackered as me?
I feel more relaxed already thanks, there is something more reassuring about speaking to other women.

DD is a nightmare and decided that she wasn't going to wake up when she went to sleep at 3pm this afternoon till 10pm at night. Despite numerous attemps by us to get her to WAKE UP! so I'm trying to entertain her.

If you want an epi, i'd tell them as otherwise they may be busy and advise you to come in later unaware that you want the epi. Be honest with them.

jaynz · 02/05/2008 00:36

How exciting for you gameforalaugh, of course you're nervous but that's ok Keep yourself occupied and focus on the excitement of finally getting to meet your new son.... soon soon

Hopefully your MIL is on her way!

TeenyTinyTorya · 02/05/2008 00:36

This is early for me lol! I'm sitting up knitting and listening out for ds who has a cold and is a bit upset. I'm not sure about the epi thing - I'm sure someone else will be able to advise.

jaynz · 02/05/2008 00:39

Maybe ring them and tell them "I'm in early labour and just wondering how busy you are re when to come in" etc?

Then you might get an idea of what your next step might be?

LargeGlassofRed · 02/05/2008 00:40

think it be better to say if you want one imo,
Am up because am at work until 8am (working very hard )

MarsLady · 02/05/2008 00:50

If you're not dilated enough they will turn you round and send you home... epi or no epi!

So... if you are able to distract yourself then do so. Get into the bath and let the water help relax you (remember to take the TENs off first though).

Decide what it is that makes you fearful. Look it in the eye and put it away so that it doesn't hinder your labour. 2 bad labours does not a 3rd one make!

Make sure to eat, drink, pee and rest! I know that the resting thing sounds impossible but even if you just close your eyes between contractions.

Also... if you can feel yourself zoning out then you need to get off of MN and let yourself (sorry ladies... you know I love a labour/birth thread).

Turn off the TV and turn down the lights. Let yourself be and be ready to welcome your baby.

WhatSheSaid · 02/05/2008 00:51

Just saying good luck, will look out for the birth announcement...

gameforalaugh · 02/05/2008 00:55

OK rang delivery , they say to get some rest this could be just uterus okaying uo due to 3rd baby an dthat labour can be a bit stop & start 3rd time, if it is going to progress then basiclly it will which will keep me awake anyway so I think I may try to go and resta bit with DH.Will keep you posted.Do you think this sound s right? I am scared of the pain Marslady and also I am just thinking of my other 2 children and how much I will miss them.
