What time did you get asked to go in, and what time did you go to theatre? I know it varies and EMCS can push it back but I’m just curious!

8am, DD was born at 13:48!

Same for me!

Bluejayshello · 07/08/2024 19:39

9am and delivery at 4pm. They forgot about me 😩😭

OrganicAlchemy · 07/08/2024 19:46

I had to be there at 6.30, went in at 12.30. Think I was the 4th or 5th :)

SquigglePigs · 07/08/2024 20:03

We went in at 7am and DD was born at 10.20am. We were first on the list because I had gestational diabetes so they didn't want me to go too long without food.

I’m actually very shocked at how many births end up emergency c sections. I was told they had 4 emergencies today, 2 early in the morning before we arrived and then the 2 that pushed us back. Scary

In fairness, the amount of emergencies can wildly vary day to day.

We're fortunate to have two emergency theatres and an elective C-section theatre. Elective theatre usually does 4-5 electives every weekday, sometimes weekends too. On emergencies, I've had shifts where we've done 14 cases between the two emergency theatres (over 12 hours) and others where we've had zero cases in the same period. We just don't know what we're going to get until we get it. Today we did 3 emergency C-sections, one management of a haemorrhage and one elective C-section as the elective list overran. There was rumours of a forceps delivery for the night shift as I was leaving, then who knows what will happen after that.

Really sorry your elective was delayed. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow.

Thank you. That’s very true, just when we were pushed back with an emergency I was shocked to hear of another so soon, but I’m absolutely clueless on what’s the norm. The lady who had to come into theatre instead of us was haemorrhaging and all sounded really scary, I really hope she’s okay and it does put things into perspective as frustrating as it is.

Asked to go in for 0730; gave birth just after 0930. Could have been a bit earlier if the surgeon hadn't got caught in a traffic jam.

tovels · 11/08/2024 19:12

Asked to be in at 7am, she was born at 9:27. I was the first of the day and highly prioritised because of PP. (I ended up coming in at 11pm the previous night but that’s another story 😅)

sugarplum33 · 11/08/2024 19:17

Arrived at 7am, second on the list but they had a wild day of emergencies and I didn't go down until 5pm. I've never inhaled food as fast as the dry sandwich they managed to find me that night after 24 hours with nothing to eat.

With me it was marmite on toast - heavenly!

Told to be there at 7 for DC1, they were here for 930. DC2 told to be there for 8 and they were here for 1030.

PurpleChrayn · 11/08/2024 23:04

I was asked to come in at 1pm, and I was taken down to theatre around 5:30pm. DS was born 6pm. My surname starts with Y, so I figure I was the last one to go, in alphabetical order!

mrssunshinexxx · 12/08/2024 07:46

@PurpleChrayn it's done by priority not alphabetical order x

I had my (lovely) elective section (second baby) a couple of weeks ago. I had gestational diabetes and was on insulin so I was first on the list and we were asked to come in for 7am for the op to start at 9. However the lady who was meant to be second had a baby whose heart rate was found to be really slow on the CTG so they did her first and I was bumped to second. Baby was born at 10.29am and I was in recovery by 11.

sel2223 · 13/08/2024 10:12

I was already in with pre-eclampsia but I was prepped first thing and my partner told to come in at 8am.
Didn't end up having section till mid afternoon. Out 24 hours later.

deliwoman1 · 13/08/2024 15:18

My ELCS was due to breech. It was pushed by a day due to emergencies, which was a bit of headf*ck at the time, but I was told before I went in.

I was in for 7am, and DD was born at 11:01am. Got lucky!

fr4zzledmum · 13/08/2024 19:25

7.30am arrival, we were second on the list and baby born 11.43am :)
