Okay, I'm only 38 weeks but am dreading going past my due date and still being pregnant in May. I've had the following:

  1. period cramps on and off for the last 2 weeks - sometimes really quite uncomfortable.
  1. Strong BH - are they supposed to hurt 'cos mine do sometimes
  1. shooting pains in the tops of my inner thigs and pelvis (this has only just started to happen)
  1. much heavier discharge. Not a show - more like snot (eugh I'm making myself feel a bit sick writing that)

Does this mean that I might go into labour soon? If not any suggestions for bringing it on soon.

Thanks

problem is , we all fixate on 40 weeks as the end ! but a normal full term pregnancy is anywhere between 37 - 42 weeks.... if this is your first, then take the time to rest, relax and wait for your baby

lost of sex helps ripen the cervix

AussieSim · 14/04/2008 08:03

I am 34+2 and have been telling people for weeks that once I get to 37 I will be doing the following:

  • scrubbing the floors on my hands and knees
  • eating loads of fresh pineapple
  • eating good hot vindaloo curries
  • upping my physical activity (IYSWIM) As this is my DC3 and DS1 was 35 weeks and DS2 was 39 I hope that that means I am unlikely to go over.

Re no. 4 on your list - I definitely had this for the 2 days before I went into labour with DS2 - sometimes I thought it was my waters breaking (which I knew is not always in a big gush)

MrsMacaroon · 14/04/2008 08:19

i think 75% of women go over their due date so it's not really worth getting too bothered about...I'm 5 days over with DC#2 and have been getting contractions for bloody weeks.

BubbaAndBump · 14/04/2008 08:25

My first baby was big so I was determined not to go over due date - so at 39 weeks I had a good curry and sex on the Sunday, went for a long walk on the Monday, and hey presto, show came Monday afternoon and went into labour at 3 am on Tuesday. btw, sounds like your 'snot' may well have been your show! Good luck :D

Islamum · 14/04/2008 08:25

I started getting strong bh contractions 5 days before I went into labour with my lo

mommylongsocks · 14/04/2008 09:36

Hi, i am 39 weeks on thursday and am too dreading going over my date. i was 2 weeks late with first and although this is 'normal' i just couldn't bear it this time round! i just want baby to come now...again any suggestions would be great

rosalina72 · 14/04/2008 09:40

I think I might be in a similar situation or maybe even closer (early labour?). I had a small 'gush' of water at 2am this morning, then went to the toilet and have been having what looks like a show and contractions every 12-15 mins apart since 6am. The pain is not very intense and I don't seem to be leaking fluid either. Could this still be labour? Sorry, I'm a first timer and know nothing!! Btw, I'm 39+1.

mommylongsocks · 14/04/2008 10:21

it sounds like something is happening! prob best to contact midwife, she may advise you to phone hospital. with my first my hindwater broke two days before actual labour started but it did still leak slightly? good luck let us know what happens

rosalina72 · 14/04/2008 14:39

Well, I called the mw and they told me to come in and get checked out. They did an internal but found no water. I'm almost 100% sure it wasn't urine or discharge (sorry tmi) so I'm a bit confused and slightly disappointed. The mw did say that there was a bit of show and that the cervix looks ready, though. She reckons it will happen in a couple of days Can they really tell just by looking?

Mommylongsocks, I've heard of hindwaters but what is it exactly?

mommylongsocks · 14/04/2008 16:30

hi, glad everythings ok rosalina72 but i bet you are a bit disapointed but sounds like it won't be long! i hope i get this explanation right but sometimes there can be two sacs of water that surround your baby, one of them (the hindwater) can break and this produces a small trickle of water. like i said mine broke a few days before but then they still had to 'break' my waters when in labour, it was all very confusing! they can do a test though to see if they have broken or not, think it has to be done at the hospital though, it's just a simple 'dip' test. i do hope your baby comes soon and mine of course! getting a bit fed up of this waiting around and it doesn't feel any less stressful a second time around

rosalina72 · 14/04/2008 18:42

Thanks for the info, Mommylongsocks. They did do a dip test at the hospital and confirmed that it wasn't amniotic fluid But on the bright side, I've had more show and some more cramps. So hopefully I'll have a little baby soon Hope you don't have to wait long either. Good luck

BubbaAndBump · 17/04/2008 06:51

Updates please girls! :D

mommylongsocks · 17/04/2008 14:47

i am stll in the same position! no news! i week to go though...

gillaz · 17/04/2008 15:16

Yeah, me too. Had horrible cramps and shooting pains in my back yesterday so thought 'here goes'. Woke up this morning feeling fine with no signs whatsoever. Will probably still be hanging around at 42 weeks at this rate!!

sophiebbb · 17/04/2008 15:32

Oh can I join here please!! 39+2 today. Wanting to give birth now!! It's DC2. Had period style cramps twice - enough to keep me awake and now having those shooting pains down below that have been talked about on a different thread. DS1 was born at 38+1 so am now keen to get going....

mommylongsocks · 17/04/2008 20:46

i can't wait either but don't want to get my hopes up as was 2 weeks late with first, well hopefully well all get to see our little bundles very soon

sophiebbb · 18/04/2008 14:14

How's everyone getting on? Zilch here....

gillaz · 18/04/2008 15:41

It all went a bit quiet for a few days but after chasing a BNP candidate down the street earlier and having a massive argument with the horrible bigoted man the cramps and BH seem to have started again!!

Maybe political ranting should go on the list with pineapple, curry and sex!!

OP posts:
TC08 · 18/04/2008 15:53

I am 38+1 today and can't wait too. DC1 was born at 37+5 so keeping my fingers crossed DC2 won't stay in for much longer. So far tried pineapple, hot hot curry, long walks, swinging in the park, sex, raspberry tea and tablets, brown sugar drink, cinnamon drink, red wine!!!

Just had appointment with midwife: head is engaged now but no dilation So we tried sweep, let's see now if it works.

Piccalilli2 · 18/04/2008 15:53

I hate to tell you this but I've had all those 'symptoms' for over three weeks now and still no sign of baby despite being 11 days overdue, stacks of pineapple, curries, raspberry leaf tea etc etc etc. They come when they want. In my case, it seems, they come when they get forcibly evicted.

mommylongsocks · 18/04/2008 15:56

hey gillaz you have just made me laugh! i do agree though having a bit of a rant does seem to make 'something' happen below...still nothing for me, had a bit of nookie last night but it was nit really a great experience, feel like a bit of an elephant to be honest . am seeing consultant on tues so hopefully they may take pity on me and decide to do a sweep?

gillaz · 19/04/2008 05:43

Good luck mommylongsocks - hope the consultant agrees.

OK - so just cut up a fresh pineapple for breakfast (after my bacon and eggs hee hee) drunk a cup of raspberry leaf tea plus a bit of how's your father, going to take DS1 to a playcentre and run around for a bit and then back home for a Thai Green Curry tonight.

It is actually quite exciting not knowing when!!!

39+ 4 today

Anyone else had any action????!
