Just wanted to know anyones stories with castor oil especially 2nd / 3rd etc time Mums.

We are planning to use it at the end of 39 weeks if DS2 doesn't show up. I have done loooads of research and looked at the scientific studies and know the safe and tested amount (60ml). But just wanted to know how others induction with castor oil worked out and if you used the correct amount, and when etc.
Many thanks.

I don't want to leave anyone hanging.

I spoke to my Midwife and she was fine for me to try especially being multiparous. I did midwives brew 20mls Castor oil in it. That did nothing. No diahhrea no vomiting no nausea. It helped me be more regular thats all.
And after review with midwife I tried the 60mls of Castor oil with OJ 4 days later. Nothing again. Softer stools but no diahhrea / no vomiting / no nausea.
Contractions did start but very mild nothing significant. I had 6 hours of pardomal labour and then ntohing. So seems to not be effective on me for labour or for my gut.

I ended up being induced it 40+12 due to ICP that started at 41weeks exactly. As my bile acid levels were 105 they didn't want to wait.
I was already 4cm dilated so they broke my water and contractions picked up. Then added syntocin. Needed an epidural as with Syntocin it causes hyperstimulation. Went from 5cm - holding DS2 in 5.5hrs.
No tears. No diarrhea. No bowl movements. No nausea. No instrumental interventions Etc etc. DS2 healthy 8lbs no issues with labour no meconimum or distress. Was on wireless monitoring. latched and fed within 15mins of being born. Only lost 0.2% of his birth weight. He is thriving and healthy.

Just wanted to add my experince and outcome so people are aware of the neutral experincea. Not everything is negative - positive. There are some of us it has 0 impact on.

Are you in the UK, OP?
I can’t imagine any midwife here saying she was “fine” with you trying castor oil to induce labour.

@Bumpingaround yes UK - Wales. Midwife led birthing center. They are very natural and holistic. They reccomend use of essential oils, reflexology etc etc. They said it is upto me if I want to try. The only negative they mentioned was upset stomach and not being pleasent to have diahhrea in labour. I didn't have diahhrea and I had 0 bowl movemnts in labour as stated. So again my experince was neutral. Did 0 harm.
