I've been following the thread on all your experiences of second labour with interest, being 23 weeks pregnant. It seems a lot of people had their second child earlier than their due date (which makes me think as I'm trying to get my Mum to come up, 200 miles, to look after daughter etc).
Now, of course, there is no guarantee but I was just curious what people's experiences were to just help me think a bit more about all this.
Many thanks.

With Ds1 my waters broke 10 days before dd and with ds2 was born about 6 hours after dd. Though he did def drop 2 weeks before that and had lots of practise contractions.

Lara2 · 29/12/2002 22:53

DS1 was 4 days late - DS2 bang on time!!

ds1 was 10 days late but came of his own accord, ds2 was 13 days late and was induced.

My first was 39 weeks, my second induced at 39 weeks and I am currently awaiting my third (due 29 April). I have the same problem in that it will take my mum 41/2 hours to get to me. My first labour lasted 8 hours and my second only 2 so I do not hold out much hope in her being with me :-(

DS1 was hours! First tiny twinge at about 7am on the wednesday morning, he was finally borh at 1:16pm on thursday afternoon. He was 6 days late.
DS2; I didn't make it to the hospital! DH had gone to get mum 60 miles away thinking we had hours and I had to call an ambulance. The whole thing from the first tiny twinge took 3.5 hours and he was born on the bedroom floor. He was also 6 days late.
Strangley enough they both came on the day I was due to go in to see if I needed and induction date at 40 weeks and 6 days.

Janus

Due at the end of March with 2nd, ds will be three at this point. Unfortunately Mum and Dad are in Edinburgh and we are in North London, only moved here last December, but neighbours have been good enough to offer to look after ds if I go into labout through the night. Problem though, I think everyone assumes my Mum will come down to be here for labour part, but she could be here for ages, and is coming at begining of month for ds third birthday. What do I do? Also terrified of going into labour as last time was induced, and so was already in hosp. Pathetic I know

first baby right on time, second 2 days late. Oddly labour began 10 mins before my mum arrived at our house, could it have been psychological? Only took 3.5hrs this time.

DD was born on due date, 7lb 6, ventouse which was horrible. Most scary was my waters breaking - fortunately I was on the loo at the time as it was like Niagara Falls and went on for about 30 seconds, then carried on trickling for about half an hour - even with a hefty pad on when I got to hospital my shoes were squelching!!! Don't want that to happen this time, am due 23 June, and have visions of being in the frozen food aisle at Tesco when waters break. Please God don't let that happen. I am going to stick a nappy in my pants whenever I go out!

hi all had my(1st) 10 days late and 5 years later had my (2nd) he was 3 days late the only difference was my labour times (1st)13 hours (2nd)4 hours . Reading all the threads made me realise how lucky i was that my mum only lives 20 mins away although she is disabled she could look after my ds who was 5 at the time so no nappies to change or bottles to make. With my second child the midwife had to break my waters on the delivery table and all in all it was a much more relaxed labour although i was more apprehensive as second time round you know whats ahead of you. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Hope all goes well Janus

My first was allegedly 13 days late and was induced. I have always had a long cycle though and always thought that the EDD was wrong even though I was at pains to point out my long cycle to the midwives. Second time around I lied about my LMP as I was pretty sure of the conception date and lo and behold DD arrived exactly on her EDD. I have done the same 3rd time so will be interesting to see what happens.

Hello, labours with my first two both started at 2.10 in the morning at 39 weeks!! By the time it came to no3 I was sat up in bed at 2.10am at 39 weeks all set and ready to go! No3 refused to fit in with his brother and sister and arrived at exactly 30 mins early!

megg · 02/04/2003 20:22

My nan had 9 children (5 boys and 4 girls). All the boys were late and all the girls were early. In fact of all my cousins all the boys bar one were late and all the girls were early (15 boys 7 girls).

tallulah · 04/04/2003 18:34

No 2 was 11 days late & they'd taken me in but hadn't actually got around to starting me off. No 3 was 3 days early & took us by surprise. No 4 was 8 days late. All boys. No pattern!

TigerFeet · 09/04/2003 16:54

My first, a boy, was 6 days late. My second, a girl, was a week early. Eventhough we had planned on an elective C (which would be done at 39 weeks anyway) she decided to put in an appearance 8 hours before I was scheduled to go to theatre (it was still a section though with a very quick 2 hour labour beforehand).

doormat · 09/04/2003 18:57

My first dd was a day late. My second dd was 10 days late and had to be induced. She was too lazy!! Now at 17 she is still bloody lazy.

my first boy was 2 days late after being induced

with my second boy my waters broke on the due date but he was not born until two days later - i had an epidural so i think this slowed down the labour
good luck with your second baby
