second births - was your second early or late?

I've been following the thread on all your experiences of second labour with interest, being 23 weeks pregnant. It seems a lot of people had their second child earlier than their due date (which makes me think as I'm trying to get my Mum to come up, 200 miles, to look after daughter etc).
Now, of course, there is no guarantee but I was just curious what people's experiences were to just help me think a bit more about all this.
Many thanks.

DS1 3 days late, DS2 2 weeks early.

I'm sure I've said before that I went to hypnotherapy and had the "2 weeks early" bit written into the script the hypnotherapist used.

Ds was born on his due date, dd was 3 days early.

Eulalia · 09/12/2002 21:54

1st, ds 8 days late, 2nd dd 15 days late.

SofiaAmes · 09/12/2002 22:42

1st (ds) 10 days late, 2nd (dd) 1 1/2 hours early.

susanmt · 10/12/2002 00:37

1st (dd) 4 days early, 2nd (ds) 10 days early, much to my releif as I was terrifed he would be bigger than dd (who was 9lb12) but as he came early was 'only' 9lb3!

mears · 10/12/2002 00:57

Janus - being a midwife and seeing hundreds of women over the years having second babies, I am sorry to tell you that they come when they are ready - some late, some early

batey · 10/12/2002 08:01

Dd1 was 5 days late and dd2 on her due date and smaller than dd1, much quicker too. Good Luck!

CAM · 10/12/2002 08:49

Ist dd exactly 2 weeks early (but she was due on April 1 and i think I psychologically "made" it happen early!) weight only 6 lb but perfect. 2nd dd exactly 1 week early weight 6 lb 13 oz and perfect. We have small babies in our family then they grow at a lb a week as soon as born. Ouch Susanmt!

suedonim · 10/12/2002 09:06

Ds1 born at 40+3, ds2 induced at 41+3, dd1 induced at 41wks, dd2 born 39+6 days.

Tetley · 10/12/2002 09:42

DS1 - went into labour on my due date, he was born the day after. DS2 - 4 days late

bundle · 10/12/2002 09:49

Janus, I hadn't realised you were due around the same time as me - my due date is 9 April, and dd was 2 wks late so I'm expecting a lot of daytime tv

lou33 · 10/12/2002 10:32

Six days early, 3 weeks early, 2 weeks early, 4 weeks early

titchy · 10/12/2002 10:40

1st - 3 days early;
2nd - five weeks early - and was supposed to be an elective cs, so had everything planned down to the last detail. Typical bloke he b**ggered it all up!

SoupDragon · 10/12/2002 10:50

Susanmt, the reason I wanted DS2 2 weeks early was to knock 2lbs off DS1's 10lb birthweight! You have my heartfelt sympathetic ouchs as I think your 1st delivery was similar to mine...

Enid · 10/12/2002 11:16

Dd1: 2 days late, transverse op, ventouse and high forceps - ouch!

dd2: 9 days late despite being engaged from very early on (26 weeks ish), born after a 2 hour labour, 24 hours after the consultant gave me a 'sweep'.

tigermoth · 10/12/2002 11:56

First child two weeks early, second child almost two weeks late. If I have a third perhaps we'll hit the target!

OuiOui · 10/12/2002 12:05

tigermoth - that's exactly like my mum. I was the last and punctual to the day - in fact it was probably the first and last time that I was on time!

threeangels · 10/12/2002 13:36

All 3 were 2 weeks late.

threeangels · 10/12/2002 13:37

sorry meant 2 weeks early

Jaybee · 10/12/2002 13:49

Boring me - both of mine were 5 days late.

star · 10/12/2002 14:51

Ist 3 days late at 10lb second-3 days early at 9lb 5.

Eulalia · 10/12/2002 19:46

CAM - same here but the other way round. dd was due on 1st April but born on 16th April. Actually I was hanging on till after the 6th to get new tax benefits but I ended up hanging on a lot longer than that!

Janus · 10/12/2002 22:36

It's all so different, thanks everyone for replying it makes interesting reading. I'm just dreading 5 weeks early as only just moved to this area and wouldn't have anyone to leave daughter with so partner would have to stay home and I'd give birth alone.
I'm very much assuming a maternity ward wouldn't appreciate you turning up in labour with a 2 year old in tow!

Janus - its much more stressful when you have another child to think of isn't it! I was bent double with the force of my contractions but STILL worried about whether we should phone my MIL to come and look after dd1 as it was 2.30am and I didn't want to get her out of bed

Good job I did as dd2 was born at 4 am!

clary · 11/12/2002 11:00

Bundle, Janus, I'm due in April too (10th) how exciting! sorry, haven't been following "due 2003" threads. On your question Janus DS was 10 days late and DD (due day before DS' 2nd b/day) managed to hold on for 5 days. But I'm sure there's no rhyme or reason. Do think that 2nd labour can be better, if only because you know what to expect. I "managed" it at home for much longer 2nd time so was only in labour room for a couple of hours hurrah.
